We think the world is coming round to our way of thinking..our take on lifestyles and freedoms, beliefs, futures. I think we might find over the next few years they are not. Many things are not going the way we thought or think they should. We seem to hope that by ignoring them or pretending they are not what they are, it might all go away. Im not sure many people believe that to be honest. If they do, they live in a bubble. The world is full of different beliefs and ideologies. Wether you agree with them or not is a different story. The bubbles many live in now are the issue. The denial of and ignoring the obvious is simply getting worse. Millions living in a 'safe' bubble that wasnt and has and will cause everyone to be less safe, is proof.

Not enough options. I'll watch a few games, including England and Wales. A poor thought out survey.

Got to be honest this is the World Cup I’ve thought of/looked forward to the least. I am not not bothered in the slightest. But just about bothered to post on here about how not bothered I am 🤣

But just about bothered to post on here about how not bothered I am 🤣 We were chatting at h/t today about this. England’s first game is on a Monday night(?) - not even sure that’s correct so shows how not bothered I am with this WC. If it was the summer, we’d have all gone down the pub but none of us today were up for shlepping out on a wet, chilly Monday night when you can stay at home and drink beer bought cheaply from the supermarket. I guess if England can progress, that might change. As it stands, it’s just a massive distraction from usual business completely down to money and the corruption thereof and hopefully the one and only time a WC will disrupt the football season.

Yep fair enough , the trouble is the people sitting in these bubbles making up the rules create a fair less safe world for us all. Integration of people with vastly differing cultures in life and beliefs will at times always create highly volatile scenarios.

Yep fair enough , the trouble is the people sitting in these bubbles making up the rules create a fair less safe world for us all. Integration of people with vastly differing cultures in life and beliefs will at times always create highly volatile scenarios. Its not the 'vastly' different beliefs and cultures that will be the problem, we see that and its heavily reported and debated at every level. If you import tens of thousands from areas of internal conflict(that have been going on for a thousand years, often not reported at all, unless we are there and its classed as a 'conflict') then you have simply moved it onto your own doorstep. We will become involved, like it or not, in ancient hates that we simply dont understand or can deal with, there is no 'logic' to them in this century or 'our world'. Having once fought with 6 different branches of the same people, same religion, who were killing each other in goodly numbers(women, elderly, kids, babies) in ONE morning, in an area the size of Elland, you do get to see the problem. Turn that into armed gangs here who will kill each other for an ancient single difference in interpretation of a religious passage, then add in drugs, prostitution, people smuggling etc etc, its a nightmare in waiting.

Billing misses out on the final Denmark squad despite his good recent form, a lot of surprise expressed about it from Danish fans and media. Would've been nice to have an academy product there.

Denmark have some very good midfielders but I'm surprised they aren't taking him for the bench. Superb footballer these days is Billing

Not sure if this is going to become the general 'WC 2022' thread, or it'll mix sport with the off-field aspects of this tournament.
Started watching the FIFA uncovered documentary on Netflix last night. Will need to re-watch as I was dozing, but with all that's going on just now, I can't see this tournament having any other legacy than it being remembered for the controversy in it being awarded, hosted etc.
Hopefully the football will go without too many hitches, but as for the other stuff...
Anyone on here flying out to attend & willing to share how much they expect it'll cost them? None of it sounds cheap, so hardly the game for the working people by the sounds...

Has anyone been watching the three part series on channel 4 'Italia 90:when football changed forever', been pretty good tbh and although its nothing you haven't seen before it brought back a few memories and maybe made you see things in a different light.

Yes I went to Italy, but I planned our journey a year in advance and never saw any trouble as we stayed in agrirurismos with locals, and ate n drank at our leisure. It was a great experience and we met all the players at Is Molas golf.We also watched Italy v Argentina and the sad final.I think football did change for the better after this and the excellent Taylor report after Hillsborough.

I see that Virgin Atlantic have made a point with the plane they’re flying out the England squad with…
Rain Bow… They’re also “proud” to be flying the team there…

They’ll price normal supporters out of the game at all levels. It would be nice to see something principled in the game, that would be a refreshing change… I can understand why people sometimes decide that watching a L2 game is far more pleasurable.

Apart from counting the money i wonder how the FIFA will react to all the bad press once this is all over, will they see it as a mistake or carry on regardless and see world cup bids go to those who are the highest bidder irrespective of a countries dodgy human rights record. I get the fact countries have to be 'able' both financially and otherwise to put on such a massive tournament but right from the off the choice of venue was criticised firstly becasue its not a traditional football country, the heat, expensive etc, and in recent times because of human rights records and it being illegal to be gay in the country, it really is a mess of their own making.

You would hope it will make them think a bit. I’ll not hold my breath though, their execs have their snouts in whichever trough is available to them. With Qatar it just feels a bit like the Legoland World Cup. There’s no way that you’d think they can get a return on their investment, or create a legacy in such a small country. Hence the justified criticism that they’re using a vast amount of their wealth to build their image. Obviously they think a few $bn is a price worth paying. The atmosphere in the stadiums will be interesting, and also interesting to see the first game for the host nation on Sunday. Forced attendance for some? Free tickets issued out with an NDA?
