At 12 quid a can cant see many drunken brawls, unless theres a dodgy bloke selling moonshine on the back streets!! I don't think Westie is going to this world cup.

No love for Bayern, Liverpool, Southampton, Senegal, Salzburg etc but what a good player that lad is. He'll be a massive loss for Senegal and for the WC in general. A player who'd make watching Senegal a bit more bearable. Is that a bit harsh? Once scored a Premier league hattrick in 176 seconds, that's less than a goal a minute.

I'm always buzzing on the eve of a World Cup but not this time. The tragedy of the hundreds (thousands?) of workers who have died building the stadiums is pretty horrendous. This was modern day slave labour. The total disregard of human rights is appalling. But... it is not these things that really resonate; it's the total corrupt nature of world football that has allowed Qatar to host the competition in exchange for filling FIFAs coffers with billions.
Being a fan I will probably come round, but I won't be watching it to the extent that I usually do. And the England team? Do me a favour!

Being a fan I will probably come round, but I won't be watching it to the extent that I usually do. And the England team? Do me a favour! I always like a bit of context in these situations. If the figures reported as 6,500 deaths are accurate, then set that across a generous 12yr build programme, that's around 1.5 constructions deaths per day on average, every day for the last 12 years. Imagine those sort of figures being recorded in the UK? There would have been outrage long before we got to this point. The report in the link below has 30 deaths being attributed to the construction sector in 2021/22. Then think about how big Qatar is, that this is related to 7 new stadia & the infrastructure around that build & the new hotels etc. Sad fact is, that rich Arab nations don't give a flying fuck about the immigrant labour that comes in to do these jobs for them. I'm not naive enough to think there would be UK type H&S, but it wouldn't have cost them that much more to invest in a safer environment & pay scale that would have avoided a lot of the criticism they've been getting & will continue to get. Once the WC has finished in about 30 days time, what will they do with this 'legacy', the infrastructure? Will they try and appeal to become the next Dubai? Giving them the WC just seems wrong on so many levels, but that's what money does, and when you have so many Govts also turning a blind eye. In some respects you could argue this should possibly have been a repeat of the 1980 Olympic games (albeit different circumstances), but I doubt we'll see that again on a global sporting stage. link

Anybody got any tips of non obvious players for fantasy footy purposes? If you are after relatively under the radar (cheapish) attacking defenders you can do much worse than Maehle (Denmark) or Sosa (Croatia). midfielders (as well as Pedri) Musiala (Germany) & Skol Olsen (Denmark) attacker Gakpo (Holland) Thanks for these ideas. Will see if I can get some in my team.

Trevor Phillips on QT last night said something along very similar lines. I was going to post about the divisiveness of BLM a while ago, but fully expected to be jumped on. Half my mates I keep in contact with from when I lived in Fartown think they're the bee's knees, the other half despise the organisation. It's not just white football fans who have questioned taking the knee. One of them (ex detainee at {I think} HMP Wealston) was extremely scathing. One of his quotes was "they didn't take the fucking knee for me and I'm LESS of a criminal than him!"

And now just 2 days before it's about to start, they've banned beer in the stadiums. English, Aussies, Belgians, Polish and German fans have collectively lost the will to live.
Budweiser won't be happy with that, they're one of the main sponsors. What an absolute fucking omnishambles it's turning out to be, and it's not even started yet.

Although most of those forces/institutions train their personnel to notice when their captive has blacked out or is on the verge of it. Don't get me wrong, what that copper did was beyond the pale and he deserved to be vilified, sacked and prosecuted for it, no argument from me there. I don't personally think he intended to kill Floyd, he was incompetent and/or badly trained IMO

This sounds more like it was the plan all along. Let's tell everyone they can drink in the stadiums until it's too late and they are committed to going and then cancel at the last minute. If they had an intention to sell Alcohol at the stadiums, it would have been ordered months ago and already be there. What is the Stadium going to do with 1000's of pints of beer with no-one to sell it to unless it was never ordered in the first place? Bearing in mind that there will be no local producer and it will all be imported.

Qatar have really taken the piss out of FIFA, first by getting the tournament moved from our summer to our winter, continually moving the goalposts about what the LGBTQ can expect & now banning beer at the stadiums, after saying it would be available.
It's a total shit show & you wonder what is coming next.

UEFA used to ban alcohol sales at their qualifying games. I remember walking up Wembley way listening to the announcements saying alcohol won't be on sale in the ground. Then looking up at the corporate areas and seeing the tables in the windows with bottles of Champagne on them.
FIFA should have just been honest about this World Cup and made it corporate only. Which is what Qatar and FIFA probably wanted anyway. The people on corporate jaunts will be able to drink in the hotels, cruise ships and in the corporate areas.

There are always a load of 'local small businesses' producing alcohol, prostitution of all kinds, drugs, cigs, pornography etc etc, just maybe not on the level required for a world cup and the religious and ordinary police who run it wont be allowed to supply these services during the world cup, by order. Its a religious state which means everything thats illegal just costs more and is limited even more to those that can afford to enjoy it and cover what they do...🙄

Like blaming the Russian soldiers for invading Ukraine but being careful to avoid pointing the finger at Putin.

The fans are committed to their tickets now. So the choice is to try and offload your ticket and go to a fanzine where you can get fleeced, or go to the stadium and forego the booze. Not suggesting the 2 go hand in hand, but so many will have wanted some alcoholic refreshment, a couple of pints etc. Can’t imagine offloading your ticket will be that easy for this one. As I put in the poll, I hope this has huge repercussions for FIFA and we start to see sanity return to the game.
