He gave us the 2nd on review. He gave us it. The other one I don't even know if it was in the box. He gave us one in real time, had to be convinced about the other when he had a very good view of it. He was poor. As for the third penalty, I reckon he looked at h/t and realised he fecked up, hence the zero delay in awarding the Saka penalty. That and it being an absolute stone-waller!

I think that will probably be the toughest game France will have now. They won the game with a great, but long range shot, and a typical Giroud perseverance goal, aided by a rare bit of poor defending. I know Pickford made a couple of decent saves, but on the whole France couldn’t really have complained had they lost that game.
But it is about hitting the onion bag, Kane will re-live that second penalty for a long time.
I still think we’re pretty close to a major tournament win though, but you still need a bit of luck which deserted us last night.
Back to the grindstone now, no doubt there will be media analysis for the next week, but they’ll soon have the PL to bang on about.
Still not convinced that a winter WC works though.

Not so sure about that. It just seems that when it comes down to the big games we bottle it 9 times out of 10, usually with a penalty or penalties involved. Was going to say England are as predictable as Town but then thinking about it, since England won the World Cup Town have won 2 titles, an automatic promotion and 4 Play Off finals. So we've achieved something every 8 years on average in the 56 years since England last did. That's why I never get excited when England are playing.

Looking back I thought it was an excellent England performance. Alan Nixon, no lover of the English said the same. It's a cup competition and there are very fine margins. Perhaps players failing at this stage is subconsciously not believing you can win it, because an England team has never had that experience in 60 years. England have some great young players and I thought Saka was very good.

Gutted with the end result but England were excellent. Controlled large parts of the game against a good team. On another day we would have won but that’s the way it goes. I said at the beginning of tournament, on this thread, quarters was the realistic target and anything after that a bonus. Morocco v Croatia final would be bloody lovely.

Nobody bottled anything yesterday. What do you call Kane turning from assassin to prime Steve Simonsen ? An elite sportsman making an error, like every other every other elite sportsperson has.

I thought we shaded it overall, unlucky not to be through.Just thought before kick off that my first disappointment of watching England in major tournaments started with the last time we played France in the World Cup.Forty years later it hardly bothers me now although I'd still love England to win

Top the group. Tight win v Senegal. Lose in the QF to France. I was nearly spot on apart from the win v Senegal was more comfortable than I predicted.

England were criticised in their defeats to Croatia and Italy in the last two tournaments. They were accused - rightly IMO - of giving the opposition too much respect after taking the lead. Both matches felt like missed opportunities due to Southgate adopting overly defensive tactics.
Last night was different. We more than matched the French and on another night would have won. And no one could have said we didn't deserve it.
As it turned out, we didn't take our chances, the usually reliable Kane fluffed his penalty and France scored a fortuitous winner - plainly came off Maguire.
Add in some very questionable refereeing decisions, and I think England can count themselves very unlucky.
I've criticised England loads over the years - haven't we all? - but last night I think they can hold their heads high and say they put in a very good performance, but didn't get the result. It was a far more honourable defeat than many that have gone before.

Thought that was a decent game to be fair. No shame at all, need to keep Southgate and it will all come good. Hope Marocco beat the French though - got told to "fuck off back to my country" by some callow French youth when England equalised, despite having lived legally in France for over 30 years...☹️ How long does Southgate get to build? It's ridiculous people keep saying we are building, fact is we should have won at least 1 tournament. And I am certain that almost any other manager would have the same record as Southgate(if not better) considering the fortunate runs we have had. Who have we actually beat ? An average Gwrmany side in a home game at Wembley, other than that ? Every ring we face a half decent team we lose... Croatia, Italy, France ect... 2 of those I believe we should have won with a bit more tactical nouse and a manager with the bottle to make big calls. Nobody will every convince me that Southgate is a good manager. Nice guy, sure..likeable? Yes... But I don't believe we will ever win a major tournament with him in charge ! Fair points, but every other manager from Alf Ramsey onwards has failed, some have been worse than awful and the football has, with a few exceptions, been turgid. While I understand the frustration as we again crash out of a tournament, maybe we should be careful what we wish for. Also, and only in my opinion, as regards to being 'nice', I do think it's a pre-requisite that the manager of a national team be somewhat paternalistic - Ramsey was, Aimé Jaquet was and Deschamps currently is, and apart from being successful, they get players to run through walls for them.

On a brighter note the chestwanker lost the boxing. Always good seeing a scumbag getting punched 🤣 Just got around to watching it. What was the ref doing? He's a dirty sod is Warrington, be it with his head, rabbit punches or punching back of the head and the ref largely let him do it. Delighted to see him on the wrong side of the judges decision. Would rather have seen him knocked out though

Got back to the UK last night, gutted to be back home but it was a game of fine margins. I thought England played OK in the first half and were the better team for most of the second half. Southgate has many doubters in the travel club but I think he's earned the right to have a crack at Euro 24 if he wants to.
As for Qatar and the World cup, fantastic experience. Really pleased we took the decision to go and what made it more special is that all the games took place in one place so fans had the chance to mingle. I personally didn't see one bit of bother while i was out there. I have to admit though I am looking forward to a session on the beer this weekend that won't cost me a weeks wages

I’ve just remembered what someone on here mentioned the other day about the televised record in WC matches.
We lost v France because it was on fecking ITV…
The Morocco v France tie tomorrow is on the BBC.
Let’s go and trash the ITV studios and transmitters before the next Euros and WC.
Who’s in??
