Jude Bellingham has given a different dimension to the England midfield. It was all sideways, backwards & rigid before but JB is on another level, the lad has everything in his locker. Brilliant player. He was fantastic today, really looks like he could be the difference for us. Amazing to think he was in a Birmingham side Town beat 0-3 less than 3 years ago.

Apparently he hadn't made his Brum debut when England's last played a WC game.

Brilliant player. Only 6 years older than my eldest son………who’s only recently turned 13!!!! Incredible. What a player he is at such a young age

Great performance from England yesterday , but Iran were very disappointing. Iran may have scored two but were never in the game, so to speak. I was very impressed with Saka and Bellingham who were outstanding, but everyone played well.

Agree that foden should start.. But more likely in sterling’s position not mount.. 5subs as well so will get some game time.. You often find that a team evolves through the tournament.. When we were robbed in Argentina the team didn’t start to play until hoddle got picked.. 🍻 England didn’t qualify for Argentina I was thinking "You're bloody wrong, the cheating cokehead knocked us out". Then realised that was in Mexico, weird how a lot of people misremember it as being in Argentina, but that was 78

Fantastic overall performance, I just hope Southgate trusts our attacking players & stays 433. Southgate got his subs spot on too, in all fairness, a lot of the squad will feel a real part of the tournament already. One big negative, VAR is a joke, I hope they don't rob someone when it really matters,You mean like a £200m play off final? Still bitter? Fuck yes

Another World Cup tarnished by blatant corruption but the more traditional on-pitch kind as appose to this current one.

What was the corruption in 78? Or did you mean the hands-on, on-field corruption in Mexico?

Without looking it up, Argentina delayed their second round game for spurious reasons so they would know the result of a Brazil game and therefore know exactly what they needed to do to go through ( at the expense of Brazil ) It turned out they needed to beat Peru something like 6-0. Lo and behold, they beat Peru 6-0, with the Peruvian keeper having a performance so dubious it was a joke. And Peru were a decent team, only coming 2nd in South American qualifying after a 1-0 loss to Brazil ( I did look that bit up! ) .

Argentina 78 was the toilet paper world cup, Mario Kempes and Ossie Ardilles, Ally's army, but fucking toilet paper everywhere, every match but especially the Argentina games.
And Slapps is spot on about that Peruvian side being far too good to lose 6-0. Terrible corruption.

Kane having a scan is a worry - I was shouting at the TV at the time for Southgate to take him off.

World Cup 2022: Gareth Southgate 'worried' England used as example in referee video - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63721852Us again, they used to use clips of Crouch to show refs what to look for, as fouls, we got bugger all then too.

It's always a worry when you (not you Porroh) are used as an example of something bad that it's going to cause preconceptions further down the road. Hence Nicholls getting warnings for timewasting more often and earlier (apparently) than other keepers and time-wasters. It's why players who are known for diving eventually get decisions going against them even when they HAVE been fouled. It's why Zaha got so much short shrift from refs, because he was at it all game in their ear, moaning about perfectly good tackles and then not getting the foul when he's been hacked.

Tough one this evening, having never beaten the USA in the WC, but I expect us to win, these games are never easy and are the type of game England have struggled in, in the past.
This team however is good enough to go all the way. France, Spain, Brasil have all looked good, a convincing win for England will make them all want to miss us in the KO stages
