Well I'm glad I went, it was a much improved performance and Rotherham never looked like scoring. I thought Holmes and Rhodes were excellent, as was Rudoni. To be honest they were all good, the only negative being Thomas. He seems to have zero ability to take on a man and beat him, if he had that in his locker he would be some player.

Its another massive 3 points, and it just shows how far adrift we were getting that 2 wins on the bounce hasnt lifted us out of the bottom 3. It gives us a chance now, which a week ago we didnt look to have. It makes the Jan transfer window a big one, as I am not sure we have quite enough, especially in a couple of positions, but whether we strengthen or weaken the squad remains to be seen. Whatever happens though, we have to use the confidence from these 2 wins to push on. Its a bit ask for another 25 points, but they look a lot more attainable than they did at Christmas before we played Preston. Agree with all of this. We deserved the points tonight but I don’t believe our current squad is quite good enough to stay up. I know that there are all sorts of shenanigans going on in the background but if we could find a couple of good solid midfield players by freeing up some wages (Anjorin?) and get players like Turton and Pearson back, we might just do it. I’d say a 45% chance of staying up at this stage.

Said it before and I'll always believe it but if you want to see where a table will end up, look at the GD column. Yes there will be a few slight anomalies but they generally go in order. Ours is looking healthier than our position. 5 more goals and we'll have promotion GD!

That was a BIG BIG win tonight 👍 - no point in beating Preston North End away and ballsing up at home to Rotherham a few days later - and Town didn’t thankfully !
Winning breeds confidence and confidence breeds winning so long may it last... It’s just a bloody nice feeling to be off the bottom of the table and hopefully now Town can kick on and clamber outta the relegation zone to begin with and crawl up a good few places thereafter...
A lovely result to compliment ma sensational chicken jalfreezy, boiled rice n’ chips and cheese and in between savouring it in dribs and drabs in the dining area, I’m enjoying 🥃 Auchentoshan malt whisky 🥃 in the lounge in ma last night on this visit to the family -
A nice end to the year and Danue will be the toast of The Holme(s) valley tonight and may all Rhodes lead survival in well May !!!

We played well tonight in front of a bigger crowd than I was expecting on entering the ground so fair play to all those that turned up. I won’t single anybody out as there were a lot of 7/8’s out there this evening and although you can only beat what’s in front of you, Rotherham were really awful and are going down on that performance. We 100% need to keep hold of Rhodes and Holmes (and they certainly didn’t show any signs they are heading out the door based on that showing) and I’d be really, really disappointed if we had to sell either of them to get their wages off the bill. On to Luton now.

Chuckled at the thickos telling the ref he didn’t know what he was doing for letting that player stay on the field. The ref was wrong. It wasn't quick treatment so he should have left the field. He then let them retake a shit free-kick. It wasn't the crowd being "thickos".

We weren't great by any stretch tonight (certainly the first 20 minutes we were pretty poor, giving the ball away cheaply and struggling to put 2 passes together) but we were more clinical than them (they arguably had the better chances) and I'd say we deserved the 3 points. You can see why they've only won 1 of their last 11 and are getting dragged into a relegation battle.

Thought Holmes was excellent tonight, he was finding pockets of space and, at tines, Rotherham struggled to contain him. Also well done to Kasumu and Rudoni (can't understand why he was taken off)

Huge win, providing those at the top don’t sell our top players in January, we have more than enough to stay up

It feels like every game there is someone ill or newly injured. Becoming a bit of a joke really. Just how ill are these players? As a club are we deciding to keep them away from the group or is it the players saying they don't want to play? If it is anything like the team I manage, presenteeism is a pain. As we're not testing as much for covid, and not at all for flu A/B or RSV, all of which are bringing fairly fit and healthy folk down, being a bastard and telling folk to stay away is hard. But quite simply I tell them to test for covid, get vaccinated, and not come back for 5 days after symptoms gained from likely RSV positive kids. Snotty bastards kill the workforce

Crazy to see that the points gap between 2nd and 3rd spots is the same as the gap between us and the playoffs 😯 Depends on how much you believe football is fixed, I guess

I was very impressed with Kasumu tonight. Another good performance. Kasumu is one of our best players. If he can learn to not make stupid tackles and use the ball that little bit better then he's got a good career ahead of him. I reckon Kasumu could play 6+ years with us if we treat him right. All action. Hard tackling. Leaves his all on the pitch. He's 20/21 so will only improve and the Championship, even with a poor team, is a better proving ground than MK Dons

Rudoni was (incorrectly*) cautioned - I speak under correction here but I think that the rules dictate that the injured player is not required to leave the field of play if the player that committed the foul was cautioned. * In fact the foul should have been given in Rudoni’s favour but that is a different matter. Anyway it was a good win and the table is looking a lot healthier UTT

Only 11 pages must mean most are still out celebrating & some like me are just getting in. So Town & Luton are now on a nine pointer xmas/NY maximum & go head to head on Sunday, odds on it's going to be a boring 0-0 & both teams will be happy with 7 from 9........feck that, forty years ago on NYD we smashed to bits Sadders 6-3, any win will do & give the lads a Scottish Hogmanay (2 days off) to reward them..UTfT.

Scottish Hogmanay (2 days off) Love it ! - I’ll be in the best footy bar back home on Saturday in preparation for Sunday - I’m presenting the owner with a replica ‘bladder’ ball like was used when Town won The FA cup in 1922 and a programme from The Texaco Cup when Airdrieonians played Huddersfield Town that I bought from the club shop all the way from Huddersfield (This guy Lucci of Bowmore Hotel played for The Diamonds a couple of times around 1970) and he’s gonna put it on his trophy shelf shelf with ma name and that of Huddersfield Town as a credit ! So looking forward to a booze up before the bells, then the bonfire and fireworks display then the ceilidh dance then in the back door of the pub and for a lock in then bed then up just an hour before kick off v Luton Town !!!

Rudoni (can't understand why he was taken off) 3 games in less than a week He was on a booking with an at best dubious, shocking referee. He works like a trojan. He's still young. I remember they used to say Michael Owen was played too much when he was around Rudoni's age.

Great and very important win.
Fotheringham got his tactics spot on in my opinion. I also don't get the 2 shit sides comment, I actually thought we played and controlled the game very well, Rotherham were poor, but partly down to us.
My MOM was either Hoggy or Holmes
I thought Holmes was very important breaking the lines for us attacking in the first half, and a cracking finish too.
Special mention to Rhodes too, great holding the ball up, shame about the fluffed finish, but followed by a cracking one.
One thing I would like us to work on. When we clear our lines, quite often in a panick or heading it out, I would like us to be more clever with it. The number of times we clear it or head it straight back to them. It's great that we were first to most of the balls, but it would just take the pressure off in heated situations. This could come from the midfield being clever and taking up better positions I don't know.
Overall, light at the end of a dark tunnel

Didn't notice until having a proper look just how much Rotherham are in free fall
Their new manager has been in charge for 15 games, winning just 3 of them. 2 of those came early on, one against us and one at Stoke when they won with 1 shot on target to Stoke's 12.
They've got a big decision to make as sticking with him looks like nailed on relegation.
Wigan have 2 wins in their last 15 and also in free fall.
With a couple of additions in January and some players returning from injury you've got to like our chances of finishing above those two. I think Blackpool could get out of it as they have some individual quality capable of match winning moments. Hull, Cardiff and Bristol City seem very hit and miss, an injury crisis for any of them would do us nicely

It was encouraging that we comfortably won against one of the sides in and around us. It is these games we need to win to survive. Very pleased for all involved.
One game at a time and keep grinding away.

I understand the posts about whether we can get X, Y or Z amount of points but it is only about us getting more points than 3 other teams.
Rotherham, Hull, Wigan and Blackpool are in freefall. Pearson will be back soon and the younger players are getting better.. we will stay up.
Has Fozzy also learnt that we have to attack too.. big turnaround for Town.

Also well done to Kasumu and Rudoni (can't understand why he was taken off) There was a couple of occasions where Rotherham broke and glided past him because he was afraid of making a tackle already being on a booking. It was the right decision to take him off, although in hindsight bringing on Thomas was the wrong one.
