I'd have more faith in us staying up if they were in charge at the moment... Mind you, (almost) anyone would be an improvement on Fotheringham Compeletly agree - surely if we bung Wigan a couple of quid they would shop MF for Kolo Toure Or even Alex Neil at Stoke, or John Eustace at Brum. All way ahead of the guy we have - NOT Sarcasm is unbecoming. Happy New Year.

I'm afraid he's out of his depth, has few ideas, and is neither proactive or reactive. I admit he's not helped by all the palaver at the club, but in a way that's even more reason he shouldn't be anywhere near the club. Hopefully he has an epiphany soon, but if not he is relieved of his duties before it's too late.

I'll donate a crate of buckfast to the club and maybe that will help him see the light in a more timely fashion! But I strongly doubt he's ever going to be a decent manager and I don't want Town to have to suffer for his very steep learning curve - all the way back to League 1 mediocrity.

Is that the word that describes what happens on a lot of threads on DATM? Pulpblicity?😁 I always thought this forum was Different Class.

Tend to agree sadly - prepared to give him a chance as he inherited a weak unfit squad which was a disgrace from schofield imho. Quality is one thing..... lack of fitness shocking. Not sern him proactively change a fame yet except perhaps diarra at preston .......but its a tough gig with the shit going on behind the scenes. Staying up by no means certain without a good window imho.

Poor move to drop him back and bring on Sorba. Just put camara where Hogg was. Sub that would have fitted the pattern of the game. Dont overthink shit.. Ward for jordan?? With Simpson on the bench? When losing you leave your striker on and bring on another, they had 3 on?? Nope, we went with a nothing change and lost.

I always wondered, what was Nicky Cowley listening to with that ear piece. Does anyone know, what it was for?

Just been on Pompey forum. They seem quite happy about it. Which tells you all you need to know. Pompey fan I know says that they had to go as they'd lost the crowd, having won one of the last 14 games. That's not harsh in the slightest. In his first season, Danny Cowley said "over my dead body" they wouldn't get in the play-offs. They dropped out and finished 8th, then finished 10th in their second season and are now sat in 12th in their third season.

Took over a club 3 points off the playoffs, they leave 9 points off the playoffs. ...but games in hand. And Koroma to come back....?

They have a pretty decent track record so far, but there are big expectations at Portsmouth. In League Two they might, but nothing above that. Apart from when they kept a club in the Championship who, when they were appointed, were in a similar position to where we are now.

It's weird how much credit they get for it. They kept us up, yes, we were four points adrift when they came in. They managed to pull clear very quickly, but then, with quite a decent squad managed to drag us back into the mire and only just kept us up. It's not the miracle it's claimed to be. At all.

Grant - £15m O'Brien - £8m Toffolo - £2m Smith-Rowe - England International Chalobah - Chelsea regular Schindler - Legend Hogg - Legend Mounie Stankovic Lossl Simpson I'd keep that team up.

Apart from when they kept a club in the Championship who, when they were appointed, were in a similar position to where we are now. It's weird how little credit they get for that. They deserve a lot of credit for that initial 10 or so games, where they had the bollocks to isolate Diakhaby, Mbenza, and Kongolo from the squad after a particularly gutless performance at Bristol City. Looking at the involvement of the former two in Carlos' first season, they definitely went against Phil's wishes in doing so. During that period they got us back in the habit of winning after winning just once in the previous 10 months. However, after doing the hard bit, they showed that they were quite limited tactically, and made some questionable man management decisions (particularly Stankovic, but also their handling of Grabara's return from injury). They were backed quite heavily in January but didn't know quite what to do with the players they did have, only figuring out how to utilise Chalobah after almost a whole season playing him out of position, and not being able to fit Grant and Mounie into the same team. I know the circumstances were quite tough, but that was arguably a top 6 squad that, after that initial 10 games, they had in lower mid table form for the rest of the season. It got to the point where they were clearly making game plans for 0-0 draws to keep us up, while having an attacking line of Smith Rowe, Mounie, Grant, and Willock all available.

The whole Danny Simpson affair was down to them, and it was Danny Cowley that told Simpson to go the papers over it.
And then agreeing to sign Lossl (and pay his wages) behind Hodgkinson's back was a step too far. Allegedly.
No fan of Hodgkinson but one of the better decisions he made as chairman was to sack these two.

There you go with that word again. I never said it was a miracle. We were heading one way before they were appointed so, for steering us clear of that, they deserve to be given credit. I'm not asking for a statue to be erected in their name FFS!

What a bizarre response.

They weren't great here. Took over 5 points adrift. Managed survival game 45. That squad should have been safe mid table.

The one thing they did was stop the free fall. I think the fact they’d come from nowhere, a pair of wide boy chancers who had nothing to lose, made it easier for them to ditch the big names we were carrying and begin the turnaround.
The likes of Diakhaby & TK knew their time was up and they were out. Higher reputation managers may have felt they could rehabilitate them.
They then gave CC a relatively clean slate having done a lot of the required culling.

Which is why I question the thinking of anyone who thinks Cowleys would have more chance of keeping us up now than MF would. We are in mid table form since MF took over and during that time he's had to get players fit, play with B team players in key positions with senior players nowhere near the calibre of those listed above.
