Unbelieveable admission from Mike Dean on the Up Front podcast, basically that he as VAR knowingly overlooked a foul directly before the 96th minute equaliser in Chelsea v Spurs last season because Anthony Taylor is a 'mate' and he didn't want to give him any 'grief'. Surely the football authorities have to overhaul VAR and wider officiating at this point?

The only thing they should do now is consign the whole shitshow to the bin. It ruins the game as a spectacle It kills the emotion It doesn't stop controversial decisions It gets things badly wrong Its clearly there to favour certain clubs
Without doubt the worst thing to ever happen to the game. Is there any genuine fan out there who actually still defends it?

And the European leagues seem to get it spot on. It's our officials that are shite, not the technology.

If its a goal I want to celebrate not sit there for 5 minutes while some cretin looks for marginal offside. Is football any better with it. Is it fuck. Its shit and its brought nothing of any value to the game, except more controversy and talking points fir ex pros in amongst the adverts. As soon as it comes to the championship I'm out.

VAR itself should have been a good addition to the game correcting mistakes made by the officials - The main trouble with VAR is the refs who are running it or should that be ruining it. Other sports unlike football, have implemented the use of replay and technology to enhance their decision making.
The current way it is used only definitive decisions like offside are bettered but the rest can be binned as they are making things worse and perceived bigger clubs are getting more 'decisions' in their favour

Spurs not getting a card cost me £500 that day, glad Mike Dean kept his mate happy though 🙄
Similar will have happened with Tierney and Moss at Wembley as Moss became Tierney’s boss at full time, joke that these things can have an impact on getting the decision correct.

This statement, in simple terms, admits there is partiality in the VAR room in this case for the alleged defence of a colleague. It calls the integrity of the whole system into question. In our own recent history we have seen VAR, in my opinion, being used to advance the interests of one tclub to the disadvantage of another. I find it deeply depressing but hardly surprising

Watched it earlier, and my first thought was obviously the play off final.
Do you think Paul Tierney wanted to tell his future boss he potentially got a big decision wrong and send him to the screen in his last game as a referee?

Anyone who hasn't yet made his mind up whether Mike Dean is a total prick or not just needs to watch that clip of him in the crowd at Tranmere.

"Anthony Taylor is a 'mate' and he didn't want to give him any 'grief"
It's this attitude I genuinely don't understand and which I think is probably unique to football.
How can giving someone the opportunity to rectify a mistake be seen as "giving them grief"?

Just keep it for offsides or serious fouls/incidents a referee might miss. I.e someone being headbutted.

So we all know what has been referred and what has not and we can all see the replays and hear what the referees say. No chance will the footballing authorities do this as they won't be able to support the top six clubs!

He's jumping on the seats screaming 'It's me, it's me, it's me, it's me, look look it's me me me me, Mike Dean'. And relax, I can see a camera pointing at me. Total prick.

They had the chance to make it nice and simple. Team scores. Ref asks VAR to have a look at a certain part of build up he's not sure of but his on field decision is goal. VAR has no clear evidence to contradict Ref. Goal stands. Its all this VAR telling the Ref What to do or what not to do which has cocked it up. This way there's absolutely no rereffing the game which they wanted and refs use it to help them not judge them.

But the way the FA, EFL, EPL and PGMOL have implemented it is just an absolute joke. If something takes more than a minute to detect an error, it's not bloody "clear and obvious".

The worrying thing about this is it reveals what we have all suspected...that there's a degree of favouritism in the decision making process. How far does this extend...the top clubs get fevourable decisions, as we all thought..small clubs get treated differently because there's less fuss from them, lower profile..unlike man Utd, for example. To me this statement has finally confirmed what we've all thought all along....
Unfortunately, the big clubs who receive this 'special treatment' basically run the game anyway..the FA quivver before them, bending the knee, nodding dogs all of them....so nothing us likely to change. It's a bit like the Tories who have control of the UK media...it stinks.

Even when run well it removes that moment of ecstasy when your team scores a goal..the bit that everyone goes to the game for. Fans dont celebrate like they used to..is it a goal,,maybe,,maybe not..have to wait until VAR has taken a look incase it can find some minute obscure reason why it isnt a goal. With VAR, for most goals, its effectively like being awarded a penalty...youve probably scored..but there every chance you havent. Scrap it... football was much better without it.
