For a spell in the 70's its fair to say Scotland wwre the no.1 British side, they qualified for the 74 and 78 world cups whereas England missed out, didnt cover themselves in glory in either of those tournaments apart from the win against Holland in 78 but even that was too late. I agree. Despite having some superb players they were disappointing in these tournaments. Personally I loved watching the likes of Jordan, McQueen, Souness, McGrain, Masson, Ricoh, Willie Johnstone, McStay etc etc. Rioch.

Friendly match or not, I hope we absolutely smash those bitter and twisted haggis munching morons. You have forgotten The Whisky swiggin’ - Tennents Lager by the gallon - Munchin’ a King sized Chippy with Fish slathered in Salt n’ Vinegar - Beer Bellied - Hairy Chested ‘Rab C’ - Dressed in Clan Tartan Kilt - Bagpipe playing Claymore Warrior - Tartan Army - Drinking and Smoking the pipe in front of The Peat Smoke Fire ! I meet most of that criteria to be honest... Absolutely hope that I’m indulging it the boozy bit tomorrow night celebrating a Scotland win, The Braveheart Heart says ‘aye, aye’ - Unfortunately the old Head says a hard fought England win by the odd goal either 2-3 or probably 1-2 !

I'll be watching. A good test as to how far the Jocks have come under Steve Clark. Should be a good game and great atmosphere. When you think of the 80s team Scotland had, it's a disgrace how far they have fallen in terms of producing young talent, whereas credit our FA (despite their obvious shortcomings) for laying the foundations for the 'pathway' / centre of excellence ete etc ... For a spell in the 70's its fair to say Scotland wwre the no.1 British side, they qualified for the 74 and 78 world cups whereas England missed out, didnt cover themselves in glory in either of those tournaments apart from the win against Holland in 78 but even that was too late. Also qualified for The World Cup finals in 1982,1986 & 1990 (Five in a row) at the finals Sab - Oh for those heyday days once again ! 😉 In a strange quirk of fate, during those glory qualifying days, we always failed big time to get to The European Championship Finals and now it’s the other way round (we got to Euro 2020 - 21’ delayed due to pandemic) - we’re on course for Germany 2024 (But not there just yet) and we never get to The World Cup Finals these days at all... Just typical Scotland - And even if we get there we’ll just be glorious failures and no doubt go out on the heartbreak of goal difference anyway as per usual ! ☹️

My favourite England v Scotland fixture(s). Euro 2000 qualifying. Scholes gets two in a 2-0 win at Hampden. Second leg - Scotland get themselves a 1-0 win....but it's not enough. They'll have gone home happy, bless their cotton socks - probably with bits of the Wembley turf - but still missing out on a major tournament. Again. It was almost as if we were trolling them. (Again - sorry, Westie!)

Should be quite an interesting match and a good watch considering England’s tepid performance v Ukraine and Scotland’s virtual qualification confirmed after their 3-0 win v Cyprus.
Have voted England win as the amount of talent available is quite outstanding but possibly being steered by the wrong manager in Gareth Southgate - too negative in my and many others eyes with the wealth of attacking talent available right now.
Suspect this result despite it being just a friendly may be significant for Southgate’s future. We shall see.

Great reminiscing about the Auld Enemy clashes. In the days when International Caps were not dished out so easily.

No offense intended mate, but I'm an Englishman who has been living north of the border for 23 years. It seems to me that the typical Scottish football fan would rather see England lose than see Scotland win. Examples were the sheer nationwide delight when we lost the euro final and the world semi final. Even the women when they lost to the Spanish. Pity your own team can never give you something to cheer about. Maybe tomorrow, but probably not.

A lot of people from England have relocated to The Whisky Isle from down south to make their forever home here and are openly welcomed, but will still face a hostile time in the pubs tomorrow night over the footy - not in a nasty personal way, but it will be made clear that England has to lose... And aye it did seem to be the case that most did want England beaten at all levels of football wheather Scotland were in the competition or not - Strange in a way as a lot appreciated (if sometimes quietly) great English sportsmen like, Davis, Bristow, Mansell et al when in their prime although that would of course go down the drain if Hendry, Wilson and Couldhart were competing against them !

No such thing as an England V Scotland friendly, the jocks have improved but how many of their team would get in ours ? None. Should be a comfortable win 2-0 to us.

Half Yorkshire, half Scottish (old man was a Shetlander), so a foot in each camp & watched/supported both over the years. If Norway draw tonight I don't think a single Jock will give a flying feck about the score at Hampden.....1st team to book a place to Germany will see plenty of celebrating in the bars

Been thinking about this and take your point. Not meaning to deride Gareth Southgate out of hand as he has been a relatively successful manager albeit without any trophies. Possibly Eddie Howe or even Jurgen Klopp if they could be persuaded to move from Club to Country Management? This talented golden generation of players doesn’t come round too often e.g. Foden, Kane, Rashford, Saka et al and feel this crop are more than capable of winning a Euro or even seriously challenging for a World Cup within the next few years. Just believe a more attack minded and positive steer may be better suited to these excellent prospects.

Howe or Potter if he isn’t damaged by the Chelsea’s experience must be most likely options for replacements.
FA might want an overseas manager but think the media will put them off - particularly a German like Klopp.

The FA would not stump up the kind of money these guys get at club level, nor do the coaches like the lack of day to day involvement with the teams. Bit of a conundrum really - right here, right now, I don't think there's anybody available who you could say for sure would improve England. Potter possibly, but is his man management as good ?

I try to be a England fan despite Southgate. I know we will qualify for the Euro finals and I know we will fail. As for this friendly, that’s all it is, a friendly. Please Mr Southgate it’s a chance to give some other players a go. A chance to try things out in a game that has no relevance in the long term. If we win we win, if we loose we loose, the actual result does not matter at all

England manager Gareth Southgate has questioned Phil Foden's eagerness to play in central midfield.
The Manchester City player said in March it was a position he wanted "to move into over the next few years" and has "always seen myself playing there".
Foden, 23, has been utilised in a wide role by City boss Pep Guardiola, which has influenced Southgate's gameplan.
He doesn't [play centrally] for his club, so presumably there's a reason for that," said the Three Lions boss.
So the bloke who picks players that their club managers won't play at all won't pick his most talented player in midfield cos his manager doesn't play him there 🤔

Allegedly White left the World Cup squad after a falling out and not been picked since I think. Maddison and Foden both have had discipline issues (Grealish too ) in the past which maybe has affected their chances but yes guess if you are in the squad now ought to be use more when we need to be more attacking .

I'm a million miles away from being a tub-thumping nationalist, but I'd prefer someone English in charge of the national team if there's someone of a decent enough standard. (Much as I'm seriously impressed with Sarina Wiegman, mind)
