It was the same when I went to see Orlando in the States, I went before they built their purpose-built stadium and after. Both times I would describe their atmosphere as being carnival-like, everyone was having a good time and they get similar crowds to what we get. I thought it was funny at first, they have two separate stages for a couple of fans to almost conduct the crowd throughout a game and they swap in and out with other fans periodically, it worked for them, but sadly, it wouldn't happen over here, too set in our ways.

You're average student night out these days (and for the last decade or so) is about 3 drinks and 35 photos for Instagram. All about how you look/how you're perceived to look rather than just having fun and/or getting leathered. It's partly why despite the Uni seemingly flourishing the Town centre doesn't improve. They all get the train to Leeds for their night out on a Friday and Saturday. They don't need cheap drinks cos they barely have any. Also a much better look having your snaps down Greek Street than King Street. ... And who could blame them. Huddersfield has nothing to offer. Walk along a city centre Street in any of our neighbouring towns and cities and you'll be spoiled for choice. I can't think of a single reason to go for a night out in Huddersfield. Sad state of affairs. It's not the town I remember any more. Worse than it ever was whilst neighbouring towns and cities improve. The council needs to attract quality retail outlets, bars and restaurants somehow, parking would come in handy too since (understandably) the vast majority of the population don't want to cycle in or get on a bus. The council answer apparently is to squeeze another £50 monthly out of people who live and work in the town centres...which for a minimum or not much above wage earner, is significant enough to go and find a job in a retail park somewhere, leave behind difficult to fill holes, resulting in reduced/degraded service and see more town centre shops and leisure services lose customers and disappear. huddersfieldhub.co.uk/kirklees-council-to-end-free-parking-and-charges-in-huddersfield-will-rise-by-around-60/

Out of interest, if you were to list 5 things the club could do in this area to make things better, what would it be? The obvious is winning games and Gas club would be one but I guess it’s beyond them but it’s about fluency and direction. 1. Communication. Actively communicate with your fan groups. Be proactive, go to them rather than waiting for them to come to you and raise issues. Be proactive, not reactive with your fans. 2. Have a clear identity as a club, so the fans can feed off that. See number one to understand what identity as a club you should be and what fans want the club to be. Full clarity on your identity. No confusion, crystal clear. 3. Pricing. Do not, I repeat do not consider, discuss or implement a price increase. The most vocal element of your support will be hit the hardest. Don’t assume that pricing is all a fan factors in when they buy a season card, they invest their time too. I don’t care about Rochdale or Sheffield Wednesdays prices. I care about towns. Sensible, simplistic pricing needs to remain and If I was them, I’d put a 5 year price freeze on them. If you increase prices, fans through the turnstiles will fall off a cliff. 4. Forget goal music, forget clappers, forget gimmicks. Invest in your fans, they give everything for their respected causes. Support them. Go above and beyond. WE are doing you a favour, not the other way round. Whatever it takes, give them the tools. Make your stadium, your home. Ban away drums, allow home fans to build the atmosphere, build rapport with players and fans. 5. Safe standing, because I’m selfish. Wholeheartedly agree with most of this, and definitely buy into the sentiment behind it 👌 Couple of "buts" I'd add.. I wouldn't necessarily forget the "gimmicks" though - that is just one part of investing in the fans and we need to recognise that there isn't "one definition of a fan of Hudds Town". Most of the mentioned gimmicks (including fan parks) aren't for me either, however I did have a little chuckle to myself glancing across at the Kilner Bank on Saturday to see a pair of what looked like sub 10 year olds having the time of their life whacking their dad with the clappers every couple of minutes. They were all laughing, and those kids will be back - building that habit of "we got to football with our dad and have fun" every other Saturday...almost irrespective of whats happening on the pitch. And Safe Standing...as long as its not where I am thanks, and I'm still able to safely stand in roughly the same area where I already stand in a safely stood part of the ground. My own (limited) experience of Safe Standing (assuming by that you mean 'rail seating') is I've felt LESS SAFE than in our own safely stood parts of the ground - its a bit enclosed / caged in, harder to 'escape' from if that ever became necessary, and, frankly, is DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS for a 4 or 5 year old to stand in if its the type with seats that can be locked into the upright position, compared to standing without a big metal bar around face height, or even "standing on a chair" whilst hanging onto an adult, which I wouldn't necessarily encourage, but those kids have a better view than I would have done at the same age in the East Terrace at Leeds Road! (notwithstanding in my time it would always have been possible to just go and find an empty space and even just sit on the floor and get a clear view of the game, barring the occasional big cup game!)

Generally, the areas for the ultras are standing, and the parts of the longer stands on each side have some safe standing nearer to the pitch but seating behind. Seemed to work.

Yes, but are the safe standing areas they have rail seating, or just regular seating? (or open terrace) I want to stand in front of a seat that I can sit on at half-time if I want to, rather than have it pegged up in place out of use and just be some legal workaround to the legislation, and not have a cold metal bar in front and behind me that makes getting between rows a problem...(quite often someone will pop out for a pee or whatever...on their return they will walk down a quieter row and just leap over when they get to their seat, to avoid bothering people - try that with a bar thats 3 and a bit feet tall segregating the rows!). ie - safe standing is for me, Safe Standing is not for me.

Turn the Kilner into unreserved safe standing/rail seating, Plenty of seats for those who want to sit in the Riverside stand.

Of course not, slongas you get there early enough to claim it. Twill be the only thing we can do to entice floaters eventually, A big kin longside area where folk can decide " aye lets go down " rather than " al not bother, pointless sitting on me tod " Half half the South Stand Cowshed/Family and give the away fans the full North end... Kilner unreserved Do it Mr Nagle, do it
