Brighton destroying Spurs tonight. That could easily have been us! If we had a billionaire owner who didn't mind how much we lost every year. That's about the size of it. Around the same time we were spunking eyewatering sums on garbage like Kongolo and the Diabenza twins, Brighton were also buying numerous players of dubious ability for not insignificant amounts. The difference being that they had a benefactor with much deeper pockets and also picked up McAllister, Trossard and others, who improved the team and helped them to massively kick on. Dean was unable to fund the kind of enterprise that might have seen us do something similar. Instead we put all our very fragile eggs in the same rickety recruitment basket and quite predictably, it all fell apart.

Even our most loyal fans knew how hard it would be to stay in the PL, but we all assumed that the venture would at least strengthen our status in the Championship. But it hurts when you compare where we are now with other recently relegated clubs such as Leicester, Southampton and L@@ds.

They signed duds as well for large sums, but were able to have a machine gun approach at it to find the ones that worked as well. Brighton's wage bill from 16/17 to 18/19 was over £200m, transfers of around 150m. Ours was around 130m with transfers of around 90m. 130m+ difference in just 3 years. It's not close to being comparable.

Also Hoyle - understandably - wanted money he put in back out For me the crying shame is the stadium and training ground. We could have built the original training complex as per the design and maybe/ ideally have acquired the stadium and upgraded it That would have been a fantastic legacy from the PL. we maybe still get the stadium at least due to circumstances etc

For Dean to get as much money back as he could he too the club to the verge of League one and the new owner seems to be just about understanding the predicament we are in.
