Just a bloody pity that Rotherham fluked a win against them on Boxing Day for two reasons... 1) It meant they unexpectedly matched Town points wise. 2) Middlesbrough will be pissed off about that and angry and likely take it out on us on Friday evening.
I’ll be travelling back home to The Whisky Isle while this game is in progress so will be greatfull to DATM for updates that night ! That might be true of a team like Leicester or possibly Leeds but Middlesbrough have lost more games than we have this season. That can't just be down to teams fluking wins against them. Apart from the top 4 it's a pretty average division, 2 of our 5 wins have been against top 6 sides. If we can put a decent side out we should be going for the win.

Back in 1970 it was:- 1/ Middlesbrough away to clinch promotion 2/ Blackburn away to win the league 😀

My first ever game was Town v Middlesbrough at Leeds Road on a Tuesday evening 30th March 1965. Les Massie nodded in the only goal of the game in the 14th minute at the open end. Yet, amazingly, I’ve only seen three more games between the two teams, the last being 40 years ago! I can never dislike Boro. It really annoys me that games v Boro always seem to be evening games, it’s a matchup I really want to see because that first game meant so much to me. I’m not well at the moment, otherwise I might have driven up for this game. You Town fans that can always easily get down to the JSS are lucky. Yes, honestly! Get down there on Friday and cheer the team on. Another 1-0 would do me fine. I remember the early game the following season against Middlesborough where we won 6-0 but I missed that game. My first game was against L@@ds Unt in March 1962 where we won 2-1 that was a night game and I struggled to stay awake the following day in school. Yes, everyone always remembers that 6-0 win, two hat-tricks, for obvious reasons. Unfortunately for me I missed the game like you did. I’d been away for a couple of nights with the cubs staying at Dunford Bridge and, incredibly, we passed outside Leeds Road on our way back home to Birstall just as the crowd spilled out at the end of the game.

Taking some much needed confidence from the Blackburn game I expect the team to be really up for this one and a fast start, for sure it will be more difficult but I can see us picking up another 3 points to take us further away from the bottom 3. Especially with the games below.
Ipswich v QPR Preston v Sheff Weds Rotherham v Sunderland
Expect a starting 11 as below
Nicholls (back in contact training today)
Lees Helik Juta Kas (jackson if not) JH
Hogg Wiles Rudoni
Sorba Del
I dont really like Sorba upfront but its needed at the moment, big press for first 10mins and try and take the game to Boro.

Sounds like their first choice keeper and top scorer are missing for this one.

Good result against Blackburn, but "one swallow..." ?
I think Boro will be too good for us and will win.

Josh Smith is referee & after dishing out a red card to Lids keeper on Boxing day is currently one of our favourite, don't go & spoil it tomorrow night.....Celebrity & one of the PL publicity stunt referees at Leicester on Monday, Sam Allison.

I think, on the balance of Towns season and inconsistency to date, we can expect a draw at best.

we never win back to back home games..this will be our 4th attempt season..and we won just one of 5 back to back games last season..
Boro though, are boring as shite ..they'll stand with the ball going nowhere until a player approaches them, then roll it sideways ..then back again, and so on...going nowhere and pretending they're 'probing'..they aren't..they're just shite....and boring.

Some of the best goals we’ve scored this season have been on the break.
Admittedly that’s not a huge sample size, but we appear to be more threatening when we don’t think too much about which pass to make.
Hopefully Boro will set up like many other sides, attempt to play nice tippy tappy football and we can see if we can do the same damage as we did v Blackburn.
Rudoni and Burgzorg are 2 players who seem to give the opposition most headaches as they’re both difficult to work out what might come next.
Here’s hoping for a decent send off to what’s been an interesting 12 months for Town… 🤞

When you look at the current top 6, our record isn't that bad at all. Played very well against Leicester, should have beaten Ipswich, drew with Southampton, bummed in the gob by Leeds, beat West Brom and beat Sunderland.
That tells me that this team can compete. It's those middling table teams we keep losing to and we need to sort that out. Hopefully this change in style will get us firing up the table.
Middlesborough having lost 11 games this season are easily a beatable team, IF we set up to win.

Watched the Blackburn highlights and whilst we only had 32% possession the bulk of the extended highlights showed us on the attack creating chances after chances. Whatever we say that was excellent game management. By playing both Thomas and Burgzorb up front but out wide but cutting into the center both Blackburn central defender didn’t know whether to back off or stray outside their comfort level. And Wiles and Rudoni attacking as well, Kusumu just behind and Hogg mopping up behind we completely cut them out and they ended up playing it wide or back. More of the same tomorrow will do. We will undoubtably loose games be doing this but against poor defences it will work a treat.

Was this confirmed in press conference? Yes it was not confirmed....... DM doesnt really say anything about injuries as normal he does not want to give much away. LN was training today and depending on doctors maybe available tomorrow, this will be decided tomorrow. BJ should be fine to be back in the squad DK I think he will be missing unless a lot better tomorrow. MP out for at least a month maybe longer. Maxwell very doubtful I expect he will not make the game tomorrow.

To be fair mate, only in the mid 80's was it a reasonably regular fixture even then it was only for 3 seasons, then a huge gap until the 2000's, where it becomes reasonbley regular. We haven't been in the same division that many times, I wouldn't have thought, since the first meeting you saw. Probably correct; I don't miss many and I've only seen us play them 18 times at home in the league (and once in this season's Carabao Cup), starting with the first time I saw us win in 1964. Missed the 1965 and 1966 (!) matches, but no others until the Covid season. Only seen us up there 3 times - 67-68, 69-70 and the League Cup 5-1. I can't say that I've ever liked Boro, Walton. Just remembered that I didn't see a great deal of the 2-1 win in 2013, when Lee and Ward both scored in injury time, but then nobody did, because of the fog. I recall them attacking the 'wrong' end (ask Darren) for the last couple of minutes and just hoping that we wouldn't see them celebrating because we couldn't see the ball.

Maybe “like” isn’t quite the correct word. Obviously I’ve seen Town play them far less often than you and I feel that way towards them simply because they were the first opponents I saw and they’re a club I just hardly ever seem to see (the last time was at Brentford about 15 years ago). I’ve never liked Coventry as they were the first team I saw to beat Town; seems good enough reason to me!

Drop, defend between the halfway line and our 18 yard box. Engage and break with Headley, Rudoni, Thomas, Koroma,Diarra, Burzog(combination of depending who is on the pitch).. Run with the ball, support the ball and get past it.. Too many centre halves and holding midfielders have ambled back into position against us and watched us play too many square, backwards passes before hitting a long, high, hopeful punt this season..
