Would it be such a bad thing to go down to League One?
Yes, I know financially etc it is a big difference. And before people reply with the Sheff Wed and others who have been stuck down there for years before coming back...
Well is it such a bad thing if we dont come back? I think I'd rather be a team who is top 10 in a division and is actually getting wins! Does it really matter if it is League One? We got dicked in the prem in our 2nd season. The novelty had well and truly worn off. We haven't been a competitive team in the Championship and are having 1 off season, we've been battling relegation almost all of the time.
Maybe, we just compete at a lower level, win more games and start to enjoy watching Town again!

Matty Glennon picked up on him in the phone in, he said we won at Bristol!! I was only half listening, he obviously ain't got the foggiest!! Breitenreiter has just been another Darren Moore - confused & confusing selections. Trying to get a team poor on the ball to play out from the back. Substitution by rote. Not starting a striker. Another misfit. Yes he's got a promotion on his CV but so has Darren Moore. Same shit, different day. Time to go at the end of the season as part of the required reset. But then again who would trust the current shower to find a replacement? Same team made the selection, is it a surprise that we got the same end result. Leave the senior management in place and we will get the same result next season.

One thing we need to do, and haven't really done for years, is buy players that are either proven in the league we're in, or at worst have been alright in the league above. We've constantly gone with free transfers, kids, punts from lower league teams, players that aren't established at this level.
Wrexham last summer brought in players that were proven in L2 and in some cases proven (or at least decent enough) in L1 and they've gone and gotten promoted. This summer they'll likely bring in proven L1 players and maybe even some that have done ok in the Championship.
Yes I'm aware they now have more money and players want to play there etc, but the point still stands that they've gone for players proven in that league as a minimum, whereas we generally haven't gone down that road.
You see some clubs bringing players in and you think 'that's a cracking signing for this level' whereas with us it's more either 'who?' or 'is he good enough for this level, it's another punt'.
Whichever league we're in next season, we need players that at the very least are proven experienced players in that league, and even better if they're winners, as barring 2 seasons, in the last 10 years or so we've been used to little other than losing.
Right now, and I said this to my brother post match, I wouldn’t even put money on us finishing in the top half next season if we end up in L1

We need to find some players who can pass the ball, are fit enough to last 90+ minutes and can manage to hit shots cleanly and on target. We haven't got any who fulfil all three categories currently and probably less than 5 that fulfil any one of them!
I wouldn't be unhappy if ALL of the current squad left the club.

For years we have operated under a culture of lets just invest as little as possible and hope for the best, sometimes that works, but only when recruitment is good enough to offset the small investment. It worked with Stuart Webber, but since he went it hasn't, ok we got lucky with Carlos. Unless that culture changes or we vastly improve recruitment then we are stuck in league 1 for years, or worse When was the last time we had a striker who you knew would get 15+ goals a season?? When did we last have a player who could be regarded as a matchwinner I thought it was very telling that Oggy couldn't get a player to agree to an interview today, because none of them wanted to say something they shouldn't were the words used. I think there is something very wrong at the club that has contributed to relegation(lets be honest its happening) Unless we radically regenerate the squad with at least a core of players who are "proud and honoured" to wear the shirt then we cannot progress, without that happening would it really surprise you if we were in another relegation scrap next season, and I mean a league 1 relegation scrap. This has been years in the making as the club has been too content to just try and patch things up or paper over gaping cracks, that was always going to end badly

This has been years in the making as the club has been too content to just try and patch things up or paper over gaping cracks, that was always going to end badly Only Karlan Grant in the past ten years has scored 15+ goals in a season. I agree that we've been on the decline in recent years. Hopefully is the lowest ebb and we can be on the up starting from next season. If we go down we need to bring in players who can get us promoted and rise to play well in the championship. If we stay up I do believe we'll kick on. Kevin seems willing to put his hand in his pocket and even the useless twat who calls himself Mark should be able to see the squad needs gutting. Especially if Breitenreiter gets a say in the transfers I think we'll do well when he has his own players who can pass the fucking ball to each other from a distance of more than 10 yards, can press in the second half without being knackered and can finish their dinner.

I genuinely feel we need to make some serious changes this Summer, and even painful ones. The wound is infected and needs clearing out, everything out.
Is this squad as bad as the Premier League relegation squad? Tough one. Less ability now but they haven’t downed tools as such, they’re just not competent. Worryingly we have some real shit out on loan that are due back to ‘bolster’ the squad.
A whole new squad takes time to gel, which means some less than favourable results in the early days are possible. Are we ready to stomach that in League One?

A thorough review into what's gone wrong this season, and those who contributed should be held accountable. We need a high turnover in the squad but good luck finding clubs to be interested in this dross. A review would waste time. Get rid of the two bullshitters Kevin Nagle mistakenly trusted to run the club.

A massive clear out. Majority of players if not all need to go. I also wouldn’t be overly disappointed to see Andre leave. Not improved us at all - but also I’d accept he’s inherited a squad with a shit losing attitude. If he stays I’d give him a chance obviously, but I don’t think he will.
I’d also say I’m looking forward to the potential of a relegation clearing some of the more expectant fans out. Don’t get me wrong I’m fine with all the frustration this season, and all the chants yesterday of the players not being fit to wear the shirt - that’s to be expected as it’s true and it’s part of getting relegated.
I do think attitudes have changed since the brief Premier League experience. I’ve followed Town only since 1999 so it’s looked like this by season
Championship Championship League One League One League Two League One League One League One League One League One League One League One League One Championship Championship Championship Championship Championship Premier League Premier League Championship Championship Championship Championship Championship
We’ve been a top end League One / Lower end Championship with the odd season both overachieving and underachieving.
25 seasons, 20 of those we’ve been lower end championship or below.
Only 99/00, 16/17, 17/18, 18/19, 21/22 have we been above the lower end of the Championship.
I’m not saying we should readily accept relegation, and obviously i’d want nothing more than us being a club challenging for promotion out of the championship year on year, but we’ve done nothing over the last 25 years to suggest we should be there. I don’t expect us to be there.
I’ll never forget reading datm after our relegation to League 2, and someone saying “we’ve gone full fucking circle in my life time watching this club” - and we’re doing it again. It may just need a season or two in League One to rid ourselves of some shite players, and maybe it’ll take a couple of seasons in League One to humble the fans and realise we shouldn’t expect to win each week because we were in the Premier League 6/7 years ago.
If, and it’s not a very big if, we do go down - we fire it up after a summer of moaning and watching England fail and we go again, and get to tick off a few more grounds or revisit ones we haven’t been to in a while. We might even string a few wins together - fuck me we might have a season that we can enjoy 😂
Huddersfield Town, as always, will fucking rise again!

Burton. I couldn’t get to Burton for the game we had there, so I get to tick that one off next season. Been wanting to change seats for a while so should be able to move on a block. Be nice to halt Wrexham’s ascent and give them a reality check. Would love to go back to Valley Parade but looks highly unlikely. We might win a cup game. We might get a penalty at home. My old man can watch the planes fly over Edgeley Park.

Prob the easiest job in football being their commercial manager

This relagation shouldn't be as bad as 2001 in that we were also facing a financial abyss like last time. I'm assuming that KN will bank roll us to a certain extent so I'm hoping we are not facing the spiral like last time.
The major issue we face is that the majority of the playing squad is under contract so we we will have the same pool.of players next season that have consistently failed.
We therefore need high calibre people in dof chief exec positions who know what is required to operate in the lower leagues. So a starter for 10 is sacking the current hierarchy.
We would then need at a min a ball playing midfielder new left and right back and of course a striker that can score 25 goals a season. They would also need to turn around some of the dross that we have
Dury is out on AB listening to him yesterday I doubt he will be here so new manager needs to be identified and in post in May
Not an easy job so I think we need to be prepared for a few seasons in league 1

Well what a mess we are in.
AB sounded like a sensible appointment on day 1. He’s someone with a decent track record at clubs of a similar level to us. But we should have brought him in once we were safe. Jon Worthington had the players playing for him. He was in the trenches with the fans and it was working.
JE and MC have done nothing but make mistakes since they joined the club. Bizarre decision to bring in Moore, bizarre decision to keep him as long as they did and a terrible one letting him have the January transfer window. AB hasn’t utilised a single MC signing on a consistent basis, excluding Burgzorg. It smacks of a disconnect between the type of player we want to sign and the type of football we want to play. Surely we either replace MC or AB in the summer because it just isn’t working.
As for the players. We lack leadership. Each time we’ve been successful we’ve had a dressing room of players that have been captains at previous clubs. Our current squad is littered with crap we’ve picked up from low leagues and young kids that need someone by their side. There was no fight when we went behind yesterday, the belief was gone. ABs subs were poor, you could see we’d no midfield, but other than Sorba I didn’t see anyone who wanted to try grab the game by the scruff of the neck and drag us back in to it.
Unfortunately I don’t see us staying up now. It also gets worse for us when you look at the crap we’re left with for next season. Financially I’d expect us to cut our cloth for league one, which leaves us with Hudlin, Simpson, Jackson etc. that’s no way to sell season tickets. Let’s hope we can cash in on 1 or 2 and maybe keep a few of our better players. If I was KN though, I’m not sure I’d be giving MC my cheque book..

The squad has been left to deteriorate for years. Other clubs sell assets and atleast attempt to reinvest something here and there and build a team over time. We have sold anyone with any value and attempted to con the support by pushing academy players who arnt good enough and free transfers. I still hold Hoyle as the main man responsible for the state of this club. One season, two transfer windows and a foreign chairman with limited knowledge on this league was never going to give us a quick turn around. Whilst Nagle also has to take responsibility, i am actually more optimistic for the future having him at the helm if he can get the right people underneath him.

Folk need to also stop blaming the manager . This squad as been under invested in for so long it’s criminal after our PL legacy and any blame is far from KN door . A reset is required and just maybe a relegation is the only way.

Would it be such a bad thing to go down to League One? Yes, I know financially etc it is a big difference. And before people reply with the Sheff Wed and others who have been stuck down there for years before coming back... Well is it such a bad thing if we dont come back?
