That most of the championship clubs could easily end up in Administration following COVID as like ourselves they were hard up at the time. He explained at the time that due to our excellent financial planning i.e scrimping that we would survive whereas many other clubs would most definitely face problems. It hasn’t really turned out that way has it?

That being said the bloke was an utter Charlatan from the day he walked through the doors at the stadium

Both Wigan and Derby either entered admin or CVA. Both Championship clubs. I’m sure some others will be very close soon. Think it was 2022 when at least 6 Championship clubs didn’t make 1 single signing. I don’t think he was wrong, just out with the timing. And also no one knew at that point how long the ramifications would last of that absolute shitshow that was the year 2020. You have to remember, people were fighting over bog roll and a bag of plaster was £60 on eBay

Half a million businesses failed during the pandemic. Plenty more are struggling on but will collapse in time from the death by a thousand cuts that the pandemic inflicted, and the changes to people's habits since. Football clubs are still experiencing the knock-ons, and I think in a couple of years we'll see the damage wrought in the lower leagues because clubs won't be able to absorb losses any more.
I'm certainly not going to castigate anyone over predictions made in 2020. It was an unknown world. That football has stood up in the winds of change and financial turmoil as well as it is remarkable, when you consider that wages for players didn't drop and clubs still had to play despite no matchday income. For clubs at the top end, it was a loss that they could bear. Lower down, fans are the lifeblood who provide the week-to-week revenue stream. The further down you go, the greater the impact.

It was hodgkinson, predicting clubs would be going busy left right and centre. Making out he was cleverer than the other 99 percent of owners. It was clearly bollocks at the time.

Potless knew less than nothing about the business and the economy. He was just a shyster who made money out of temporary legal loop hole. Fuck knows who was doing the due diligence- sounds like no-one, but selling to him was brainless in the extreme. He never created any wealth. His firm had zero assets and a failing revenue stream. A lot of people in business including so called professionals are very limited indeed.
I think in this capitalist world people tend to think money equals brains but more often than not the person has found 1 way to make money. It doesn’t mean they understand business on a macro level or even other sectors.
Football clubs are often very poorly run.

Think you’re spot on, clubs are already suffering, Bristol City selling star players Lansdown has cut his financial input, Preston owe the family of their benefactor £100million, Derby , Reading , Oldham , Bury, Scunthorpe , there’s a long list of struggling clubs, the White Knights keep appearing but someday a big club won’t be rescued, hope the Town issues don’t deter Nagel, personally I don’t think they will, and I think he will get it sorted.

I think we qualify…..

Potless was the only potential buyer who would agree to DH's demands on debt repayment...sucking out all the £65m parachute monies, decimating the squad and filling it with National League quality players... I've said it before but the time to get some debt repaid (if that's what he wanted) was during the PL seasons. That single act and decision at that time is the root cause of the clubs utter collapse into oblivion. I'm not denying there were good years under DH, but for me what he did (or didn't do) back then was an absolute killer for HTAFC..

The guy was a total chancer. Dean just wanted out to whoever would agree to his terms. Someone with money never would’ve bought the club under those circumstances.

Will love DH for where he got us (luckily or otherwise) but I'll always also resent him for how he fucked us over trying to claw back the money he "never expected to get back". [Waits to get jumped on by people who don't see nuance and think DH only ever did good for Town] Edit: Yes I also blame PH for taking the offer when he knew his businesses were built on sand.

It wasn't planned was it, a year or two of near misses & you think 'shit we could do this'. The Hoyle's intended to right off 8-10 million (fact) to get Town on a sound mid table footing in the Championship........Dean wanted the hands on approach & defo didn't want a 'Ian Ayre' type involved, trouble with that is what happens if you get seriously ill, did the vultures step in?

Probably worth mentioning Hoyle wrote off £40 million debt 12 months ago. Is it written off or part of the deal for all/part payment if we get to prem again. If he has written it off great but why not do it when others interested first time he sold it to Phil, because we were due around 90m and he didn't want anyone else to have it so the club struggled and here we are Don't get me wrong deano did a lot of good for this club no doubt about it. but ultimately you are judged on the final actions you take and the major one was not to sell to the best persons first time round and let the club balance itself with the parachute monies to cover mistakes he and his team made ie mbenza, diakhaby etc He was recouping money he wasted by blowing our brains and sleepwalking , phrases he used. By selling to Phil he did everyone fans,Phil ,himself a disservice and ultimately ruined his god like legacy which as I've said is sad as he did so much for the club and gave us some great times and football.
