Long time lurker... New time poster! When Schindler hit the back of the net I sat down in a of emotion and amidst many feelings I just felt…'I’ve come full circle!" I started watching Town in the 70s when Big Frank was strutting his stuff. I watched us go all the way down to the bottom and back to the top. So at that moment I felt that it was time to get off the roller coaster. Living in Devon now for nearly 40 years means that I can't attend many matches and so I watch mainly from afar. I miss Gledholt’s lucid match reports (I remember your debates with Mr S in politics lessons 😉) and I miss Danny’s illustrated ones. As we get older other priorities take over and perhaps t’internet has prevented my interest from waning more. I applaud Walton (and others) who remain more active from a distance and his enthusiasm for his local club. I was at uni in Swansea during the Toshack years - which was exciting - but it wasn't my team! I’ve tried watching Torquay but I don't like small grounds and being too low to the pitch. At the other end of the spectrum I wonder what it is like to say be a true Man City fan…are their current exploits more exciting than the comeback against Gillingham in the play offs a while ago? I suppose what I'm trying to say is that your team is your team and that's it. The size of our football club is in many ways ideal. It is still easy to identify with…it is the town of my roots and even though coming out of grounds like Exeter, Torquay and Yeovil feeling a lot of common ground with the West Couuntryites I've spent most of my life amongst..hearing the Hudds accents always stirs something inside. A club like ours means that we have experienced the very lows as well as highs…a spread only a few clubs and fans have experienced. So to all those who have expressed their ‘end of the road with it all’ this season..I understand..a hint of the infamous Grimsby fan’s rant of yesteryear resides in us all…and yet - can you really walk away? So maybe I have hopped off the roller coaster…but I’m still hanging round the ticket booth…let's hope that next year's ride is going to be enticing.

Brilliant post, and it's true. Ok most of the time we're shit, but that makes the good times even better. I'm happier supporting my local team through thick and thin than supporting a team I'll never see just because they win a lot. Might mean I get the piss taken out of me, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I couldn't walk away even if I tried.

Wild mouse at Butlins Filey in the mid 60s. Those little buggers always used to look as though they were going straight over the edge when you were sat in one, because there was a lot of mouse ahead of the front wheels. Just like Town, scary ride every season.

Great Post m8👍 I know what you mean about watching another team..I sometimes have to take the grandkids to watch donny rovers..I want them to win and cheer their goals but feel absolutely nothing emotionally With Town its a deep passionate true love..your elated when we win and feel down when we lose and when those boys in blue and white stripes walk down that tunnel you feel they are playing for you..its very personal You couldn't change your club if you tried..girlfriend's and wife's come and go yet Town is the only thing that's with you for life!

Great post..hopefully the first of many.
Supporting a club like Town is always likely to be a rollercoaster with many ups and downs. We arent big enough to be firmly established at the top and we arent small enough to be firmly established at the bottom.
Makes it interesting.
Theres been so much negativity and frustration around the club but I think this period weve just had , from 2012 to 2024 has been great. Best period Ive known supporting the club by a very long stretch. Not always 'best' in terms of seeing my team win football matches of course,,,but 'best' in terms of how interesting its been..the big games, big crowds, big players, the highs and the lows...the general drama of it.
League 1 will be different. Everything happening much less in the public eye with far less media attention. But we should see our team win more football matches and we'll actually be a big fish at that level. Which is why I dont get why fans who are tired of seeing us lose so often would choose now to jack it in...we're about to win more often!
In terms of enjoying my Saturdays ..meeting up with the lads, having a beer and a laugh , taking in a game and then going home for my tea..( which is a 200 mile round trip for me now) .it doesnt actually make any difference whether we're playing Norwich or Northampton. I love it, it's great. Cant wait for next season and to see what ups and downs it brings.

To me theres so much more to it than that...surviving a relegation battle is great,,weve done that a few times. Almost went back up once...The management comings and goings is annoying and interesting and exciting...weve had some great players and some dreadful ones...owners coming and going and the shenanigans around that...good things and bad things happening all the time... It isnt just the good things that make supporting this club interesting and exciting to me..the bad things do too. Compare us to Preston for example. Seemingly permanently stuck in mid table. Life for a Preston fan must be a bore-fest of constant mediocrity. Id rather have our rollercoaster any day..our ups and downs,,,near misses and scrapes.

I am not focusing on results, I am focusing on the decisions made that drove us down to where we find ourselves. Dean coming out letting and letting us know that the parachute payments were not going to be used to get us back up. The selling off players that were of any quality and replacing them with ex town has beens and punts from the lower league, let us all know that we were only going in one direction. Lets not even think about the Managers we have been through. How it took us so long to end up where we are is a bit of a surprise. Appart from a few good days and the relief of not being relegated previously brought me little joy since being in the Premier league. With the shenanigans as you called them going on I have felt that any joy was being drained from supporting the club by apparently taking us to where we have ended up. I don't know how anyone could have enjoyed watching the heart being ripped out of the club. For me personally I will become a remote supporter of the team until I see signs of the club getting their act together.

Didnt we finish 3rd after signing the ex town has beens and punts from the lower league? Those are the signings we're good at!! Its when we spend big money we buy crap!
So in conclusion, youre not focussing on results, but will stop going until we start winning again?

If Carlos had had this seasons injuries and squad divides, he wouldn't have been successful either.

So in conclusion, youre not focussing on results, but will stop going until we start winning again? I was focussing on poor decisions ripping the heart out of our club since the Premier League. If we are so good at lower league punts which ones are working out that good, as it appears a lot on here would like us to get shut of them. I never claimed that these punts were crap just were never as good as the players we sold and helped drive the club down into League one. We finished 3rd against the run of results previously and since. It came as no surprise when Dean would not back his transfer requests and he decided he would be better off elsewhere. WBA were going nowhere when he arrived and he has improved them. I will stop going until we have a team in charge that are capable of making decisions that have a possibility of turning the club around. I have seen enough of the so called decision making at this club and hanging around watching another poor set drive us in to League two. I said what my decision was and it is up to you do do what you like.

Poor decisions = losing games... Good decisions = winning games.
When we make some good decisions and start winning again, it'll be good to have you back.
CC has improved WBA a lot. They were shite under bruce. Hes good manager ( when he isnt contending with a lot of injuries like he did here that first season) . But he'd have gone anyway , even if wed gone up, the first time a bigger club wanted him. Think he always saw us as a stepping stone to bigger things and when we cant even come close to selling out our allocation for a play off final, who can blame him for just seeing us that way? But having not gone up, and having had the parachute money end...where was Hoyle supposed to magic up all this extra money from to try and keep him? It came as no surprise he couldn't do that, especially for a club he didnt even own at the time.

We have been a stepping stone for players and managers for quite some time now. The parachute money was never coming our way, Dean made this clear before the first payment was due.

Yes M, we were in the same year at school and Mr S did love to wind you up...great musician though. Let's hope next season will give you something to inspire your writing and Walton...look forward to seeing you at St James Park 😉

This particular sequence of shit seasons will mean the next season where we win games and actually like the players will feel all the better. Things are uncertain, but it's round the corner, and arguably closer than it would've been if we stayed up, which would've been papering over the cracks. Not expecting to go straight back up, but I think there'll be more to enjoy.

The one good season and Dean pissed off the person who got us to third place, and see how we dropped afterwards. Which lower league punts have been anywhere near as good as the players we sold. Most on here are wanting the better ones gone. It could be that we were good at these signings but not anymore. I have decided to stop going until the club shows us that they are making efforts to turn the club around.

The parachute money was coming our way because it had become clear by that time that the idea it would go to repay Hoyle was fanciful. The club was losing millions WITH the parachute money! Who was responsible for the club being in the hands of someone who could not look after it?...the main guilty party would be whichever Chinese scientist let a vaccine escape from his lab...because if he hadnt done that, the owner would have been able to afford it. But we were where we were...and Hoyle didnt have a magic money tree and didnt own the club, so where was this extra umpteen millions to try and persuade Carlos to stay coming from? The fans? They cough up blood at the mere suggestion they might have to pay a bit more than half the going rate to watch their team!

It's been pointed out many times that COVID wasn't the reason that Potless's businesses went tits up.

Didnt we finish 3rd after signing the ex town has beens and punts from the lower league? Those are the signings we're good at!! Its when we spend big money we buy crap! So in conclusion, youre not focussing on results, but will stop going until we start winning again? The one good season and Dean pissed off the person who got us to third place, and see how we dropped afterwards. Which lower league punts have been anywhere near as good as the players we sold. Most on here are wanting the better ones gone. It could be that we were good at these signings but not anymore. I have decided to stop going until the club shows us that they are making efforts to turn the club around. Yeah like you said..you'll stop going until they start winning again. Why dont you just say what you mean ? Because that is what you mean...when they make the 'efforts to turn the club around'....ie make some good decisions so we start winning football games regularly.
