what's that building with all the pipework the other side of the road, between the canal and the temporary car park ? Will that disappear too ? That would potentially make the car park side, with canal frontage, a potential development opportunity...

There's been some right shit pollution down Leeds Road in the past. My grandad on dad's side, died at age 57, riddled with cancer. As dad and my aunt said, no bloody surprise. He worked at I.C.I. dye works, came home every bloody colour under the sun just about every day. Not much health and safety around back in 1959 when he died. ( He'd been ill on and off a good while by then.) Much as we moan about it, health and safety is needed in many industries. Hope the gasworks gets cleaned up. It pretty much amazes me, they got all those conifers to grow on Dalton bank. So different to the 60s, when you could watch the game from up there, because bugger all would grow there. I think, but don't quote me, but I think the current stadium site was used during either the 1st or 2nd WW's to make munitions or chemical weapons which left ghs site heavily polluted.

Just been to the Odeon today, and walking back down I looked into the old Ropewalk. Derelict almost. Such a waste. Would be a great Town themed pub.

Is the Odeon still licensed (for alcohol)?..The Ropewalk was a great pub but probably only made money on match days. Who actually owns it, do you think KN would convert it to a fans bar?

I believe the club enquired but it was a no go.

What happened to the bar that was open at the top of the cinema? Went in a few times during the Premier League era.

That cinema is on borrowed time. It’s been busy through the school holidays but I’d imagine once the Town centre cinema is up and running it’ll close. Prime site for something.

Showcase in Birstall, 10 minutes drive from me (Brighouse) same distance as it would be to Odeon, clean, more screens, better seats and you don’t run the risk of being stabbed as you exit on an evening. No brainer, the Odeon near the ground is awful.

Shocking working conditions back then and the bastards gave my mum a small pay out, nowadays they would have had to pay out millions, I wonder how many more young men died in that hell hole.

I wondered if it could literally be turned into a ‘bottle bar’ on match days (and just open when games are on). Surely it wouldn’t require any work/maintenance to fill the fridges with plastic bottled beers, soft drinks etc and would make a return on game days instead of being sat there empty. Would think a bit of common sense could make use of the space until a longer term solution is found?

It would nicely partition off those wanting have a beer or two from the fanzone and family stuff. Bit of fodder, open on match days, would be a good do. As above though, if it’s owned by a brewery then you’d think they’d sell it or do something with it. Used to enjoy a drink in there back in the day after a film with a lass.

She took the wage option.

It’s a big building and the overheads will be quite high, I can’t imagine its tech and infrastructure has been modernised to today’s standards. I can see it standing empty for sometime, as you say, they may need to cut their loses. To be honest, I’m more saddened by the Gas Club. It’s an absolute travesty that it’s gone, just about the only battle cruiser at the south end of the ground that’s within a few yards of the stadium. What a place it was.

Doesn't help that everyone has home cinema systems in their house these days, everyone got used to streaming films at home during lockdown, and pretty much every film that comes out now has the budget of a top six Premier League team and is still utter shite.

It’s banned in Europe but they ship it to Asia and it’s become a bit of a problem in India as folk use it to commit suicide. Also links with it causing Parkinson’s???

Paraquat in weedkiller was always a favourite for suicidals. Took years to get it banned, god knows why.

I believe they still do manufacture Paraquat in Huddersfield and over the years they haven't half pumped some shit in to the atmosphere when it was the ICI. LB Holidays at Deighton was even worse and i was told they manufactured Mustard Gas there during the first world war.

They used to store mustard gas in tunnels in the kilner bank during WW2

I know they built the mini submarines in top secret in Huddersfield, i believe they used them to try and sink the Bismark or the Turpitz. If the Germans had of found out!! i hate to think what they would have done to Huddersfield.
