I would say that it is in East Anglia but the heading in the Club's Talk of the Town email said "OUR SEASON ENDED WITH A TRIP TO THE SOUTH EAST"! I guess these things are all relative but there is no way I would regard Ipswich as being in the South-East!

Huddersfield is in Yorkshire & also the North of England. So Ipswich is in Suffolk which is also in SE England. East Anglia is just a generic term covering a region which (arguably, given that Norwich is further north than Birmingham) stretches into the Midlands. Except it doesn't, because the Midlands doesn't really cover East Anglia.
Simples.
Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to explain all that to an American.

TBF Yorkshire has a similar problem. For example, if you're looking for flights most airlines have either "north east" or "north west" as their filter on the menu to choose your departure airport. If you want to fly from Leeds Bradford, it's categorically neither... why can't they just have Yorkshire as a category? Racists.

While we’re here, isn’t it time this country had a proper east/west hatred going on?
I mean, north/south has been done to death. We should be encouraging more animosity between the folk of say, Lowestoft and Hereford

Not letting me quote the map posts, which are just shite. That isn't Yorkshire, which consists of Three Ridings ( just ask your M.P.) Yes they still exist, and include all the other places nicked by other Counties like Middlesbrough, Yarm, Sedbergh, Dent and Saddleworth etc etc. Yarm even has signs stating North Riding, because Stockton Borough got sick of their cash cow voting to leave. Even Redcar has signs saying welcome to the Yorkshire coast.
Anyway, there will never be anywhere called Yorkshire and the Humber as far as I'm concerned......but ffs, lets get back to foorball.

I use to live in Oldham in the 90's and just two miles out of Oldham was the sign YORKSHIRE, they hated being classed as Greater Manchester. By the way, Ipswich is Suffolk and in the East of England.

The Law Commission couldn’t find any evidence that this or similar mythical laws ever existed. They stated: “It is illegal to shoot a Welsh or Scottish (or any other) person regardless of the day, location, or choice of weaponry”. |
