I will be speaking to Dwayne Mattis in the near future, on behalf of the HTSA Heritage Project, about his time at the club.
Does anyone have any memories of him, or anything they want to ask him?
He played for the club between 1999 and 2004.

Think it was him that scored the winner at Ninian Park. 2001. That was one of my all time favourite away days.

Scoring a thunderbastard (if I’m remembering it right) at Peterborough in August 2002. I did have to look up the date. A highlight of (another) shit season.

Why did he pursue a career in football as surely just running around like a headless chicken is more for long distance runners 😁 Serious note... what made him choose to be a driving instructor after retirement?

Seems to be a popular choice for ex-footballers. Ashley Neal (formerly on Town's books and son of former Town assistant Phil) being a notable example.

On the car theme, Malcom Shotton worked/works at Mercedes Huddersfield. Totally unrelated and boring fact.

I know of him but don't remember the games I would have been to when he played... so forgive my questions possibly being a bit .. idk the word to describe it, maybe irrelevant/random.
Was he a town fan growing up? Seems to me that maybe mid 90s and around 2004-7/8 was a good time for academy lads to come through.. did he always feel a chance would be given? Was it anything special to play in the first team alongside other academy lads?(Dyson? Booth?) Did he need a good run in the team to grow into it or was it a case of step up and show talent in the first few games?( i think today lads get less opportunity, 2 or 3 average games and fans want em gone) Did the club ever offer any support with him being academy lad.. after he was moved on? When he suffered injuries/retired? Which club and /or spell in his career was his favourite and why? Good team spirit.. local team, promotion etc
If you can take anything from those then nice one👍

Ask him about his goal at Wrexham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy or whatever it was called at the time.
Not many of us there that night to see it but it was quality. I'd be surprised if he doesn't say it was the best goal he ever scored

I'd be surprised if he doesn't say it was the best goal he ever scored He didn't score many, but when he did they tended to be brilliant goals. I knew he went to Bury after we let him go, but I didn't realise he had quite the career he ended up having. Something of a lower league mainstay at various clubs. Probably worth asking him what it was like to be a kid in just his second season as a part of the first-team squad during administration. As I recall, he was around during the latter Division One seasons (1999-2001) but didn't play, breaking through in 2001/2 when we needed bodies. Also ask him why he seemed to fall out with Peter Jackson - Jacko never picked him so he went from Second Division regular to Third Division outcast. And why was he left out of the play-offs in 2002 after starting most of the season?

Ninian Park. As someone once said ‘One for the mad bastards and criminally insane’ What an away day that was. Lively! I remember a copper walking round the away end with only a few minutes to go advising folk with kids that they make want to slip out early as if we held on the lead it would likely be carnage outside after the match.
