The point was that the triple championship kept us relevant, it kept us as a source of confusion when the question came up in the pub quiz. Even yesterday watching a Sky Sports a graphic came up showing the clubs who had won the triple championship and we were on there, it was a source of pride for me. Some people will have seen that yesterday and thought ‘wait, Huddersfield Town?!’ and that alone made me smile. City winning/buying the fourth league title in a row makes us now less relevant than we currently are. It just feels a little sad to me. One way of creating some new history is to win the League One title, meaning we have a full set. That’s the spirit.

True but it wasn't quite as straight forward in the 70s. Derby won it, QPR, Ipswich, Watford challenged and they were never rich. Man U and Spurs went down also. Thats never going to happen again. Leicester City also broke the mould ... They were definitely the pioneers of cheats prospering in modern day football…

Guessing he was early to mid thirties. When I mentioned Herbert Chapman and why I didn’t want City to win 4, he was clueless about that history. Time does move on of course, just a little sad to see it swallowed up by a club that will soon be up there amongst the ‘greats’ of the game, but driven by stupid amounts of money. I could win the intergalactic lottery tomorrow night, win £25bn, pump £2bn into Town and we’d be world beaters within 2-3 seasons if I told the PL to go and fuck themselves with regards to FFP. I could then sit in the stand and have the Sky cameras show me during games, with a Jones pie gravy stained tie and a sharp suit… I think my plan might work…

Don’t get the bitterness here. The teams with the most money have been winning the top division in English football since the 70s and probably before I'm the same. I hate that our record has gone obviously, but I don't agree with FFP anyway. The powers that be reckoned they implemented it to protect the smaller clubs. But all it does is prevent someone like our very own KN pumping shitloads of cash into a club. As it stands, if KN wanted to pump £1bn into Town he couldn't, which to me is wrong. Someone highlighted earlier in the thread that Blackburn stopped Manure doing 5 in a row. Without Jack Walker's money** and indiscriminate spending that wouldn't have happened. ** I know the sums now are eye watering compared to then but the point stands IMO

Steak or steak and something (ale, mushroom etc.).
Something with gravy that would still be visible on my HTFC tie…

100 years after the first of our three consecutive titles, Manchester City have become the first English club to win four titles in a row. But City have only won theirs in the Premiership.....Town won theirs in Division 1. No comparison!

Absolutely, but no pesh type drinks though. I can see this is forming some sort of memorandum of understanding that you lot on here will hold me to eventually. What next? Season tickets held at 2024 prices for ten years? Yeah, go on then, still a few bob left of the £2bn because I reckon I can get De Bruyne on a free…

To paraphrase ol' big 'ead, Citeh can take all their silverware and medals and throw them all in the bin, because they haven't won any of them fairly.

Our manager when we did the treble Herbert Chapman then went to Arsenal and did it with them, so he won the league six times in a row now that will never be done again!!.

Chapman left in 1925 and Cecil Potter won the third title in 1926. Similarly at Arsenal, in the 1930s, he won the first two and then died before they won the third.

In true Huddersfield Town fashion we sacked a manager who'd won us 2 league titles in a row because he was signing players from a specific agency & letting them play golf in pre season? 🤣

I saw an article the other day saying City had overtaken Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United. We’re as relevant as Royal Engineers winning the FA cup or Third Lanark winning the Scottish title. We’re a comedy footnote, an obscure pub quiz question. Let’s push on in the modern era and establish ourselves as a reasonably sized club. Forget ancient history and being a perennial underdog.

We should never forget our history, never apologise for it, never worry about it. Never let the achievements of those who made it happen fade away just because it doesn't fit into the Sky/Premier League/Gary Lineker narrative. We are not a comedy footnote. We are Town and I am fucking proud to be Town. Shout out with pride that we were the first club ever to win the title three time in a row. But, lol, I completely agree with you; we need to stop accepting that we are has-beens. Up the f*****g Town

I think recognising our history and achievements is one thing, and we absolutely should, but I do feel we cling to it a bit too much. My real point is we need to look forward now. I don’t think harking back to a past none of us remembers does us too many favours. Since I started going to watch Town 46 years ago, it’s been “X years since we won this”, “X years since we did that” with one brief spell in the top flight that was an opportunity we managed to fuck up. The thrice champions being beaten could be a blessing as that’s gone and made us more irrelevant. Time to reset for modern times.

In that case, that’s very ironic as he’s the Huddersfield Town of music. A modern-day irrelevance living off a few years of past glories.

Every club clings to their memory.
Do you think Preston and Burnley don’t refer to their past in similar terms.
It’s only because the modern hype is all about the PL that this happens. Had this still been the old league structure, they would have had to acknowledge what we did. But as football so obviously started in 1992…

The thrice champions being beaten could be a blessing as that’s gone and made us more irrelevant. Time to reset for modern times. I don't think we should stop celebrating something just because it happened X amount of years ago. I'm not old enough to remember the 1979-80 title win, or the 1982-83 promotion win, but we should still celebrate it. I do agree that we've clung on to the Thrice Champions stuff as a club, and I've always said that Huddersfield Town are much more than the Thrice Champions, and we are. I hope the club start to celebrate and recognise other successful (and even non-successful) times in their history, as there's a lot of stuff that's happened in the last 116 years aside from the Thrice Champions. For example, it's 55 years this season that we won the Second Division, there's nine surviving members of that squad, I don't think it's a bad thing to recognise that achievement and celebrate it while those nine people are still alive. I do agree about looking forward, but the fans are partly to blame for that, no?
