How bizarre... ...they 'warned' their supporters, how exactly are the club supposed to go about "ensuring" their spectators conduct themselves in an orderly, proper, non-offensive, not abusive and decent fashion at an away fixture?! Presumably being so close to kick-off it's over-enthusiasm carried over from drinking..in Hudds pubs, and being a bit lairy on the way down? Surely its the individuals who should be held to account here, not their club?? I'm not in any way shape or form a "naughty boy", but I don't want Hudds Town to be responsible for my behaviour especially when they have zero control or influence over it! Consider the absurd extreme extension of this - a fan of a club murders someone at an away game - the club they support is somehow responsible/accountable for not controlling them? I don't think so 🤷♂️ Quote>> A statement from the FA read: “Preston North End admitted that they failed to ensure their spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion; and don’t use words or behave in an improper and/or offensive and/or abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting way with an express or implied reference to gender and/or sexual orientation in the third minute of the EFL Championship game.
An independent Regulatory Commission fined the club £10,000.
The offence in the game against Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium featured ‘discriminatory’ chants aimed at Blackpool- which took place in the third minute of the Championship fixture.
On December 20, North End responded to the FA about the incident with the following: “We were aware of our supporters chanting about our local rivals Blackpool during the game". “At the start of the season we warned our supporters about their behaviour and the impact it has on the club and how they could be at risk of action.www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/blackpools-rivals-hit-with-ps40000-fine-for-offences-against-chelsea-and-huddersfield-town-with-one-including-seasiders-related-chant-4662254

A club ensuring drunken young adults/adults behave. Never going to happen. But then again, we all know the FA have fuck all between their ears.

I see it says Preston are responsible for the actions of supporters plus the actions of people ‘purporting to be followers/supporters’. How does that work? I also it doesn’t mention what fines or punishments that were handed out to the individuals who carried out the actions

What's more odd is that the offence happened at the John Smith Stadium ... so what influence do PNE have about stewarding in the ground of a separate business!
If anyone should be fined it's the business hosting the ticketed event that failed to stop the offensive chant to happen. Instead the business whose customers merely associate themselves with gets the fine!
I know football clubs aren't businesses but trying to show how odd this all is
What a crazy precedent this sets though

Lol I wonder what they were singing and whether the hurty words traumatised anyone. Preston telling their fans not to be naughty obviously didn't work, I'm shocked.
Meanwhile the police turn a blind eye to calls for genocide and violence against Jews. Welcome to 2024.

When we went to Blackburn just after Christmas we met a couple of Accrington fans whose game had been called off due to weather. We told them that was pay on the day at Blackburn for away fans so they came, bought tickets on the day and were really nice guys. Had they chanted abuse or racist comments which club would be fined. I assume Accrington as they are season ticket holders there!

Jaheim Headley was sent off in the first round of the league cup last season and there was a barage of racist comments made on instagram, twitter to him because of it.
Looking at the people's profiles who sent it they didnt appear to be Town fans or even people living in the UK.
I believe the messages sent were sent from people who'd bet on the outcome of the match.
Could we be fined for things like that in the future?
Similarly comments on Towns social media pages when they changed their picture to the rainbow flag. Homopobic messages from people who live outside the UK and are only following Town because we signed shit players from places like Egypt when in the prem but we were told it was a good thing to get a bigger social media following.

Homopobic messages from people who live outside the UK and are only following Town because we signed shit players from places like Egypt when in the prem but we were told it was a good thing to get a bigger social media following. We design, build and use platforms that allow anyone from anywhere in the world to send direct public messages to famous people and organisations and then act all surprised when it's abused! There's a small proportion of all kinds of arseholes in society world over and lots of children. I'd be more surprised if there wasn't any abuse. Why it even makes the news is baffling. I guess the responsibility lies with the providers to do their best to fish out anything offensive and remove dodgy accounts. Meanwhile people need thick skin, if you don't have thick skin don't use social media or set it up such that you can't be targeted. Looking forward (not) to the usual hysteria this summer if one of our players receives abuse from a Russian bot or some spotty saddo kid getting cheap thrills.

It’s nonsense. The troublemakers of any club could pose as genuine fans of a target club, do their dastardly deed and get the target club into serious trouble. It also shouldn’t be for the FA to police speech, leave it to plod.

The whole thing is stupid, as other than saying 'don't sing this' there's absolutely nothing at all that clubs can do, be it at home or away.
It's like Town fans chanting about Jimmy Saville when we play Leeds. They can ask us beforehand not to sing it, but the club can't actually stop it from happening, so I don't see why they should be fined.

16 seconds of "Tangerine, Tangerine, your Mum is a crack whore and your Dad's a queen."
I don't know about anyone else, but I would have been absolutely traumatised if I'd heard that.
Also, they cheered a bit too loudly when they scored and I got upset.

Where do you draw the line, though - and who gets to draw it? Use of the "Y" word playing Spurs? Homophobic songs playing Brighton? Poverty chanting? Songs about Munich?
If you're a Liverpool supporter who lost someone at Hillsborough, are songs about that "hurty words"?

Reminds me of all the offended souls about the RAF shooting down German bombers. Why is it offensive? It happened, it's a fact. We shot bombers down to save ourselves. Why can't we sing about that? Why can't we be proud? Why is it offensive? We were the goodies weren't we?

Why can't we be proud? Why is it offensive? We were the goodies weren't we? Because of all the precious souls out there who moan about absolutely everything. One of us was only saying recently how some of the chants of yesteryear were one of the things they most looked forward to on match day however cruel and inappropriate and they have largely disappeared now. I’m sure some of our fans would just rather repeated rounds of Smile Awhile, Stand Up If You Love The Town and whoever’s Blue & White Army. Zzzzzz.

Where the line seems to be drawn is when anything could be deemed offensive to one of the protected characteristics. Who gets to draw that line? The FA, I presume... I'm pretty sure poverty chanting is ok though, isn't it?

Years ago I remember Town fans singing to Blackpool "You can stick your f***ing tower up your a**e... Sideways!"
Presumably this would now be considered offensive to IBS sufferers?

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Who told the people of Blackpool that 60 miles away around 200 people were slagging them off?
