I know..I'm English Irish Scottish and Welsh.. Ireland isn’t in Britain. Back on topic, it should be Jerusalem like the cricket and rugby teams. All other uk national football teams play their real anthem and so should we. Surely that is Islamophobic? As it's called Quds.😉 Land of Hope and Glory should be our anthem. If people are offended by God Save the King.

They were talking about that in ma local bar the other week but they were describing it as God save the Queen and the lady is at rest as well... (RIP) Nobody here does it for sure but I believe some Rangers fans in Glasgow are into it but it’s more for political reasons than anthem ones - For what it’s worth I think ‘Swing low sweet Chariot’ is a good cheery one for England to contemplate using if they so chose to drift away separately from The UK one... Some of our lot love ‘Flower of Scotland’ and some love ‘Caledonia’ - When I started out watching Scotland 44 years ago (on tv / radio) it was a mass pipe band playing ‘Scotland the Brave’ which I liked very much ! 🏴 The Scottish team has gone down hill since they switched from Scotland The Brave.

It’s not for me, but this is why so many people like it: “And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God on England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here among those dark Satanic Mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant Land.” It's a great song but would offend non Christian England fans The interpretation of the song is "a visit from jusus would create heaven in England" There lies the problem I'm as atheist as you can be and I much prefer Jerusalem to GSTK. Not offensive in any way, it's simply a more relevant and importantly rousing song than the drone-a-thon that is GSTK. Alternatively we just nick the Italian national anthem and invent our own words, cos thats an absolute banger.

As Billy Connolly said it should be the theme tune to the archers.

A new English anthem that would not 'offend' a group or groups? I dont think its possible.. Anarchy in the UK, perhaps?🙄

You obviously did geography at school Northern Ireland is very much British N Ireland is just a carbunkle on the island of Ireland..a British enclave, just like Gibralter is on Spain..
Not for much longer though I suspect.. The reason England have to play GSTK is entirely political, to keep some semblance of 'the united kingdom'...and the fact Wales and Scotland don't want to be in the UK and regain their independent nationality by having their own anthems shows how precarious it is. If England has it's own anthem it would send shivers down the necks of those establishment bods still living in the 'rule britannia' era....
I don’t really have a strong view on the topic, but why do you feel you have to use such derogatory language to talk about Northern Ireland and Gibraltar? To challenge your very black and white world view, you might want to look at polling / studies of people who identify as Irish Catholics in Northern Ireland and how they would vote in a ‘border poll’, even after Brexit.

I’d prefer no anthems to play before a game, especially not God Save The King. As British / English nationals we should all be considered equal to each other, not having Charlie reigning over us. I respected HM QE2 very much, but after her passing it’s now time to move on.

As an atheist and republican, ‘God Save the King’ is a bit of a cluster-fuck.
Surely a ‘national anthem’ should be an anthem about the nation? And not near entirely focussed on the health of an inbred with a devine right to our riches?
A highlight of the coronation celebrations at the JSS was the singing of God Save the King followed by the same folks singing ‘Y.R.A’ almost immediately after. Daft bastards. 😁

I'm pretty sure Scotland voted to remain just a few years ago😉They did indeed KingNeil but I think it was on the premise that voting remain would see Scotland remain in The EU... Unfortunately the gullible Scottish public believed a pathological liar - One of their own no less - in Gordon Brown who delivered “the vow” that never was. Aided and abetted by Dave Cameron and The Lib-Dem Guy (Was his name Clegg) they desperately lied through their teeth to Scotland regarding this and I think it will, in years to come, come back to bite them on their arses, and bite them on their arses big time... While leaving The EU won’t affect me in any way one way or the other (I think anyway) it will effect ma niece for sure. She is a fourth year student at Glasgow University and has one to go and she’d planned to travel for a few years over various countries in The EU and is gonna be restricted by the farcical decision to drag Scotland out of The EU. She is a smart wee cookie and politically astute, far more than I’ll ever be (to me they are all just dishonest crooks out to feather their own nest and feather it big time at that no less) and she tells me that 90+ percent of her University Group, and the same at her former high school want Scotland to be independent due to what she and her peers see as the utter folly of brexit, so these figures ain’t good for establishment type people up here anyway going forward for sure... That a pathological squinty eyed liar like Gordon Brown has just been honoured really doesn’t do or say much for the honours system, that much is certain for sure... For what it’s worth, I personally will never need anything from these people (MP’s) and this summer in the election I don’t think I’ll waste ma time and effort to vote... Perhaps I’ll use the day as an excuse to do something far more useful for myself like go up the road to the pub, however if I do find the energy to walk up the hill to that former dump of a primary school that I attended then I’ll just write across the ballot paper “Youse are all Fu#ckin Usleless - And Liars” - That will give me great and truthful satisfaction - BECAUSE THY ARE !!!! 😊

I think it should be Ilkley Moor Baht At. Maybe for the Yorkshire national team once we get independence... which is probably the only chance of Erling Haaland appearing at a major tournament.

God save the King is a slow durge and we could do with something a little more uplifting.
The French have an anthem that is vastly more uplifting.
Maybe we could use three lions on the shirt song.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your opinions - they’re boring. And both French and Italian historical-tourism ain’t doing to bad without a monarchy. Amazing how you can love history and yet be so fucking clueless/ignorant in the same breath.

If England has it's own anthem it would send shivers down the necks of those establishment bods still living in the 'rule britannia' era.... That's not a fact. I know several Scots and the majority of them DON'T want independence. I'm also half-Welsh and don't know a single Welsh person who would vote for independence, and I know many, not just family members. It's not just corruption that's putting voters off SNP, it's the fact the "once in a generation" referendum suddenly became a call for "once every couple of years" referendum. Obviously I don't know EVERY Scots or Welsh person but from my peer and family group it's a massive minority that want independence. Edit: Just as a caveat I haven't asked that specific question yet this year, I'll try and get an updated view
