I was surprised about the bit in this story that said they couldn’t do what Spurs did and relocate temporarily to Wembley while the new ground was being built? Have they checked the postcodes of their home supporters? 😉 www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c51y34k3gk1o

If there's one club that don't need (and shouldn't qualify for) government/council finance it's them.

"United have no obvious alternative ground to use." Erm...the Etihad? I'd make them play at Bury's ground for an exorbitant fee

Seems a lot of money for 25,000 more seats

Seems a lot of money for 25,000 more seats I think it’ll be more the corporate side of things, that’s where the big clubs make their most match day income.

"United have no obvious alternative ground to use." Erm...the Etihad? Its so obvious, the fixture list already allows for this to happen given they never play at home on the same day.

They'd just have to suss out what do about the 10k odd difference in capacity, but can't be that difficult.

I don’t think Barcelona were all that bothered about a new stadium until Real Madrid rebuilt theirs. Similar going on here, it’s all about perception.

Man United have played home games in Huddersfield before. Old Trafford was bombed during the war so they borrowed Leeds Rd.

Im guessing as they see it as the "wembley of the north" they will get a huge chunk of public money (sorry mine and your money) to complete the project!

Seems a lot of money for 25,000 more seats Arsenal were saying that more seats for them allows them to not sell them to season ticket holders. Their theory was basically a season ticket holder may pay £800 for 20 games generating £40 a game whilst a tourist buying that seat will pay £60 and will spend more at the stadium and club shop to the tune of £100-£150. So the economics massively benefit aiming for the football tourist. Those 25,000 seats could easily be worth £50-100m extra per year, add in a lot more corporate and also a better stadium probably means ticket increases for every seat. Starts making economic sense.

It was bigger than Elland Road then as well, and Town had 3 league titles and an FA cup to their name while Leeds had nothing. That's Man U Leeds and Bradford who have played home games at Leeds Road

Man U also had to play a European competition game at Plymouth due to their fans being naughty little boys and girls. It was a first round Cup Winners Cup second leg tie against St. Etienne in 1977 and had to be played x number of miles from their home ground. Plymouth drew the short straw

He did but they were already on the pitch so it sounded like he was condoning it. Its a funny watch now, there was a proper old geezer in a jacket and tie sprinting on.
