Went to a summer camp in LA and had a Philly cheesesteak. Granted, we were a long way from Philly, but it was rank. Root beer floats on the other hand I cannot get enough of. Root beer floats, are they what we used to call ice cream sodas, scoops of ice cream in a glass of pop? Loved them as a kid Nice...Coke Float in the place at the far end of the main entrance in the indoor market (had Knickerbocker Glory's occasionally but they were rubbish) was my reward/payment for carrying a bag of shopping home. Mums (definitely mum's, not dads - they were watching World of Sport or reading newspapers) used to carry about 6 bags somehow?! Sometimes we caught the bus, but not always...it was at least 4 miles home!!

This guy does a half decent job: LOL and you had a go at mushy peas who puked on the so called biscuit I admit the gravy looks strange, but mushy peas straight up looks like something you’d find in a diaper. Not to mention bland and basically empty calories. A good black pepper and sausage biscuit and gravy? Coats the insides on a cold day. And notice none of the ingredients are strange. There’s no blood or liver or god knows what in there. I should open a biscuit and gravy shack over here

That.......and the breakfast cereal which is more sugar than cereal. Rest of the family loved lucky charms.......again not for me. Steaks / chicken / cobb salads - beautiful!!! Take your pick from Pork Pie , Steak Pie , Steak and Potatoe pie but never chicken and mushroom or cheese and onion as they are indeed wonderful but shouldn't be served with peas and gravy as they just don't go together. To get this wonderful scran (food) please try to purchase from butchers , farm shops or a bakers ......fish and chips shops sorry but it's not their speciality as they buy their pies from mass manufacturers rather than home made. enjoy my friend

Haha. SWEET waffles. Golden brown. Large. Maple syrup. Maybe some fruit. Powdered sugar. Whipped cream perhaps. Also no biscuits with sausage gravy. Not the biscuits you’re likely thinking of, but OUR biscuits. Google American biscuits and gravy. BBQ. Slow smoked brisket so tender it droops on the fork. Pulled pork. Collard greens. Cornbread. Bbq beans (not the sweet kind that taste like the sauce is ketchup based. I’ve found myself wondering how that type of restaurant would do here. Went to a place called Moose Coffee that offered American breakfasts because we were curious, turns out it’s run by Canadian folks who got close in some spots, but still off. Wondering if it’s them or they just adjusted to taste. Not a lot of Mexican food here either, which is to the US what Indian food is here. Also learned that “Asian” here is India/Pakistan etc, whereas in the US would mean Japan/China etc. By the way none of this is me having a go at the cuisine here, as a matter of fact the wife had me buy some tins to make proper crumpets when we get home (not English muffins)……I’m just a food obsessive. Great way to learn culture, food. We had a lovely sandwich when we stopped at a Bucee's in Florida.

Wow, used to love a Wimpy when I was a kid are they really crap nowadays? I didn't even realise they still existed I'm going back 20 years here! There's one in Strensham services, we stopped there on the way to Plymouth last season, couldn't believe it. It was the quietest food place in there like, but there is a belting little noodle bar in there which is always busy

Hi Dave - any chance you can post future Diaries on other platforms? After this week’s events here and the owner of X being a bad actor in it all, I’m done with the X/Twitter platform, and I expect a few others will be the same.
The diaries are a great little snippet of positivity and information that I look forward to.

Does seem bizarre to me that it's still going, I've not been in for around 30 years and don't recall anybody I know ever mentioning going in. It's also just around the corner from McDonalds. Must be money laundering for the local drugs trade or something. A quick check of their website says Huddersfield has one of only 59 restaurants still existing, and is the only one in West Yorkshire. We had wimpy way before McDonald's I think, was around in the early 80s. It's a franchise in the UK I think so a fair few still going strong but tend to be smaller. I might be mistaken but I seem to remember it was a big wimpy back in the day and it was on the corner opposite Kingsgate way before Kingsgate was a thing and before McDonald's was there in it's original location. On the biscuits and gravy thing, how is that even a dish?! In stark contrast to the rest of the food over there, probably the only thing I didn't really enjoy! That corner unit opposite Kingsgate was Burger King after it stopped being a Wimpy. Didn't think there had ever been a McDonald's there, but now I'm second-guessing myself.

Nando's (OR upstairs of JJB?) was The Organ Loft. Burger King is FootAsylum (and possibly Peters extended down into it pre Burger King) Santander was Kayes.

The Wimpy has always been where it is now. The old Burger King opposite Kingsgate was the Burns Tavern.

From that article, 2 pints of Amstell for £10 seems quite reasonable for "venue" pricing of beer.
Cold sausage roll and a pint for £9 less appealing (for more ways than one)!
Looks like they've got Old Peculier too, was that always available?
Obviously can't see the full available menu, but seems to still be mainly non health conscious food-stuff, and a continuation of zero options for either coeliacs or vegetarians which is a bit of a shame if correct.
The shelters etc don't really impact me (neither does the available food or drink but I'd like to see a wider subset of our attendance catered for), given I expect I'll be continuing to drink in town and rock up at 5 to kick off and depart at the final whistle just as I've done for the previous 38-ish years - but good to see that area given a bit of a revamp generally.
LOTS of people do want to eat and drink - and if they're not discouraged from doing that when there's a bit of rain, then thats all good for the coffers.
