JOB VACANCY :- EFL Football Commentator Particular emphasis on Huddersfield Town’s away games Key requirements of this position
* Must have graduated from the Andy Hinchcliffe School of Commentating. * Must have a complete inability to correctly pronounce players’ surnames (other than Smith & Jones). * Must be able to display complete bias on behalf of Huddersfield Town’s opponents. * Must be able to constantly talk waffle and regurgitate irrelevant statistics without taking breath, whilst at the same time, completely ignoring what is happening on the field of play. Practical test
All candidates will be given a practical test. In front of a panel of ten Huddersfield Town supporters watching the game on TV, the candidate’s first five minutes of commentary must have driven all the ten watching supporters to have turned off the sound on their TVs. ************** Wrexham v. Town (last night)Judging by the many comments on this forum, I don't think I am the only one in thinking Sky need to get their house in order with regard to the quality of their commentators. I am fed-up of watching matches in complete silence (after deliberately muting the remote control when first hearing the commentary). A crowd-sound only option would be beneficial.

I always miss KOR. "It'll be all eyes on the fourth official now, Oggy" - whilst losing 6-0 at Forest away.

They clearly put a lot of effort into prepping for each game, and solo TV commentary isn't straightforward balance-wise, but these people consistently fail to understand that less is often more and it's OK to allow the game to play out without smothering it in words for 90 minutes.

If you think about it they are now commentating on circa 30 games on some days. It therefore must be difficult to get relatively lucid people to do the job. I have to agree the banality is borderline intolerable. Mute works very well.
However I would note having a HTAFC aligned commentator doesn't make things any better. When DTS did some his "keeping him honest", "the academy graduate" and his continual use of christian and nicknames was painful.

Was just about to say. Last night’s commentator was Cam Pope who’s about and out town fan. Used to be on both the main two podcasts.
Not sure what he did particularly wrong last night.

I didn’t think that he did anything wrong either. Surely being a lone commentator is a totally different challenge to what someone like Paul Ogden does. Leaves you prone to be accused of droning on etc when you are the only voice. It’s also to his credit as a professional and his impartiality that most had no idea that it was a Town fan.

He never shut up spouting, who's contracts are up,who's injured,Wrexham famous history,Huddersfield of 100 years ago,Wrexham owners,Huddersfield owners, when players last farted, constantly like reading from an autocue,as if trying too hard to give facts out for 90 minutes,it's not just him,it's nearly all of them that do it,Just describe a bit of the game and say who's on the ball is plenty.

Oggy & Glennon on the Huddersfield link I was watching. Wrexham variant on the Wrexham link. Sky had a separate commentator on the Sky+ link. Lots of options and all top notch picture and zero buffering

I just stick it on mute and if we start losing by more that 3 get Alexa to play the Benny Hill Theme tune on rotate. Makes for a far more entertaining game. Even better if you wait till the end and do the same and play the highlights at x5 speed. Makes Ladapo look like Usain Bolt !

It’s a shame that commentators have been mugged into thinking Clive Tyldesely is the pinnacle of their profession. Although it may have been Motson who started the inane stats based nonsense that’s gone into overdrive now. We don’t watch/listen to football matches to know all the guff they spout, we want to know who played the ball, who fouled the man, stuff about the game being played on the pitch, not one game from 15 years ago…

Talking about the meals they've had in restaurants and spotted players. Not even boring stuff about the game, but boring things about their personal lives with no relevance to the game they're supposedly commenting on. **other pundits too but these two just pop out.

I was quite impressed that he knew 'Smile A While. Suppose if he was a Town fan, he should. Aren't they meant to be impartial, though?

Can’t recall him trying to impress as a stats machine? Plus I think he was more regional as well, so not sure why someone only doing YTV games would bother with inane drivel?

Barry Davies was the best. Still love watching some of the old clips where he's commentating, it's mainly his excitement that makes it watchable not the actual footage.
Look at his face, etc

His comments after the Franny Lee goal were the best piece of spontaneous commentary ever. Although, I would say Motson’s were a close second after the famous Ronnie Radford goal for Hereford v Newcastle.

John Helm absolutely was one of the good ones. Hugely knowledgeable, articulate and knew when to let the pictures do the talking. His handling of the Valley Parade tragedy was exemplary. I remember seeing him queuing up at Springfield Park to get in the away end with Town fans at Wigan on a Tuesday night for a non-event cup.

He was a good one John Helm. A quick check online and he's still with us, 82. Maybe a bit 'Yorkshire' for the national audience. He did rugby league and Yorkshire cricket on those strange occasions it used to appear on Yorkshire tv before Calendar. He was distraught after commentating on the City Lincoln match and the fire. I won't hear a word against him.
