Sorry if this has been discussed recently but does anyone know what the latest position is on the HDONE project. Is it still going ahead and if so when?

It looked pie in the sky at the time. They've 0% chance of getting any funding.

It looked pie in the sky at the time. They've 0% chance of getting any funding. I'm sure it will happen but we might have to wait a bit longer than expected in the current climate. Anything can be described as pie in the sky until its there in front of you but the groundwork on this development is obviously well under way. It certainly wont be developed and built overnight so don't expect to see anything tangible for sometime. When it finally does come along with the other proposed developments in the town it can only be a good thing for us all.

It's like the dry ski slope that has been getting built ever since we moved from Leeds Road. It'll never happen.

How about investing in our Town Centre, rather then building on green belt land which would effectively kill of buisnesses in Town making way for more empty buildings and pounlands.

It's sad to think that this development, a development which will provide jobs for constructors, jobs for the wider community and jobs in hospitality for many many years, will cost the same the Jordan Rhodes transfer fee to Middlesbrough. It's stuff like this that makes me glad DH is trying to run the club without spunking loads of cash on transfers. If we EVER accidentally find ourselves in the top flight under Dean I would beg him to use all the TV millions to buy the ground from the council, give it a go with what we have and secure the future of the club. Sorry ranting a little there...

You can get rooms at the Premier Inn at Aspley and at the Travel Lodge up near Hillhouse lane, albeit budget Hotels. It's a pity this is seen as a priority and the closing of the golf driving range will be a blow to many. I can't see how a 3-4 star hotel would make any money, who would stay there..what research is there ? It'll no doubt attract some away fans travelling long distances, but that won't make it viable. It sounds like a panic decision to keep staff at KSDL employed. Surely we could better spend £9m on work at the rust bucket stadium .KSDL will be tied into a repayment schedule to Kirklees to pay this loan off and just hope they make enough profit to cover the loan...otherwise it'll be Town and the Giants paying more into the KSDL coffers...

I'd say the stadium capacity of only 24,000 is more of a hindrance to it holding major events rather than the lack of a 3/4 star hotel. I can't see the public of Kirklees being too enamoured by the council borrowing £9 million for a hotel, even if they do eventually make a profit.

It talks about "business class" hotel, but nowadays that IS a Premier Inn / Travelodge anyway! The days of staying at a Marriott are long gone for most corporate travel & expense policies. But yes, makes a lot of sense to me, terrible location as it stands, but unlike the one at Cooper Bridge at least there's some prospect of development, however remote it seems at the moment, and the smell of leaking gas must be preferable to the place built next to the recycling plant! These types of facility DO kickstart development, where a national chain hotel goes, its very swiftly followed by a pub/food and a Costa. Easy to dismiss given its not really aimed at most of us who wouldn't really be needing a hotel in Hudds!

Get absolutely tanked at the game, then stumble over the bridge for a kip – ideal for those of us who can't walk or blag a taxi home.

As someone who knows a bit about these things.......a white elephant to add to the long list of stadium hotels that continually lose money. It will never get the occupancy and rate it needs to survive. It 'might' unlock the future development of HD1, but if Kirklees lend against this with OUR money ( even with a first charge security) they need their heads examining......will be worth 1/3 of the build price in two years. Ludicrous waste of the publics money - if its that good an opportunity, the banks will lend on a commercial arms length basis........ Hmmmmm

Definitely be nicer than driving back down here after a night match... wonder if, if it does happen I will be able to get the wife to sign off on it... probably not....

If the £13m hotel is a sure-fire winner and the demand is there (as the article mentions) why isn't the hotel group (already named to the council) funding it, or at least trying to source the funding themselves?

A new 'Business Class Hotel' on the outskirts of a run down, clapped out Town Centre. Funded by a cash strapped council.

The hotel up at Ainley Top is 4 star and is good enough for businessmen, so we don't need a new one nest to the ground. Makes you wonder what quality of hotel's Town stay in on their travels, i should imagine at least 3 star!.

I hope they build the driving range somewhere else and dont just shut it down completely. There's already talk of Bradley being replaced by houses, all that will be left is Willow Valley and that doesn't have many bays and has no floodlights
Do we really need another ski slope when there is excellent indoor ones 30 minutes away east and one 30 minutes away west?

Please remind me what progress is being made on the renovation of the George Hotel. I stayed there (back in Hudds on business) shortly before it closed. It was truly in a parlous state. I have heard rumours about its owner, but cannot comment on their veracity. Given the investment in St George's Square, it does seem reasonable to consider a business-class hotel there, in a "sustainable" location by the station.
But, what do I know - I'm only a planner...?

Now that first team stay over night on a Friday night before hinge games it would make sense to have some interest in a suitable venue to do so.

You would assume a high class hotel right by the stadium is guaranteed to have some use for the majority of the year would you not? Apart from local teams, the majority of away teams will likely be using it stay over instead of say Leeds where they probably stay over now?
It's a sort of chicken and egg scenario, it won't work if there's nobody to use and support it, but you need the infrastructure to pull people in in the first place. This might just kick start the whole development and bring the people to use the facilities and the investors to develop the rest.
I think a lot of you (seems like most of the people in Hudsersfield these days) are negative and just like to shit on any idea ever.
Look on examiner articles about the university building new departments or student housing and all you see is idiots moaning about too many students and not enough housing or care for the homeless (funny how they don't care about the homeless at all any other time) but when there's an article about new housing sites they moan that we shouldn't be building on "beautiful" muddy, unused fields! The level of stupidity is unreal.

As a fellow planner all I'll say is a Grade II Listed Building and viability trump sustainable location. Shame that it is so, but that's the reality. As for the hotel pump priming further development at HDOne I'm not sure it'll do that. Thats from my experience doing regen masterplans hotels tend to follow trip generating development rather than pump prime them.
