Hopefuuly thats true that he wants to return to England which will obviously help him. But will he want to come to this level again when I'm sure some Championship clubs will be looking at him

I'd be much happier seeing Porter join than Graham, they both know where the net is, but Porter is so much more of an aerial threat, I remember him being a right pain in the arse to play against when he was at Oldham in that prolific season he had.
Saying that, Hearts are still a big club in Scotland, and he is a money grabber so who knows.

again, as with graham, he would be a very definite improvement to the squad, so we just have to hope that one of the two deals comes off.

Oldham fan here. Porter is decent at holding it up and has a good intinct for getting into the right positions, that's what got him so many for us 2 season back. Spends alot of time offside though and to be honest he should really have got 30 confortably that season with the chances we were creating, missed some real sitters. He'll do ok as long as he has plenty to feed on but If he moves to you it pretty much proves what we all think, that the move to Motherwell was purely a money making exercise above all else for him and his agent. That's not me having a pop at Huddersfield because I would be saying the same if he were going to anyone apart from Leicester in our division who look certs for the championship.

Looks like a decent signing if true. Just noticed he has scored more than a certain Scott McDonald in the SPL. Fingers crossed he will sign.

I'd settle for Porter and Graham or Phillips!
Porter sounds a credible long term replacement (at last!) for Boothy! Hope we get him.

Sheffield United and Nottingham Farrest also rumoured to be interested. Seems like LC will have to earn his money to deliver the goods ahead of these Championship teams. Excellent signing if successful.

Ian Wright?? Never in a million years, besides why would he give up tv? Plus, he wouldn't move up north or have a great deal to offer other than playing experience. What drivvel!

Don't think they were serious culpers! Clark has made a lot of re-iterating time and time again that any new signing HAS to be the right character as well as player. If there was any chance Porter would only be coming here for the money on offer, then he wouldn't be coming here. And Billy, we signed Shearer from that well known Scottish club- Chelsea. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Thats could be Graham transfer dead then (or an attempt to force Carlisle into accepting bid). Both the same kind of player e.g. strong target man who is good in the air. Just the type Jevons or Parker need to be playing off. I'd prefer Porter anyway. Still hoping for right back as there is no real cover for Holdsworth What about Steven Haslam at Bury? Premiership experience with Sheff Weds!!

You assume Clark is a perfect judge of character, I'm sure he'll try and get the right characters but I'm sure like anyone else that he'll make mistakes from time to time. Quite a few people seem to think he's a money grabber.

www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_4800760,00.html Notable comments from Mark McGhee: "I'm not confident about holding on to Chris. He has an agreement with the club that lets him away. "My suspicion is he would see his future down south."

Quite a few people seem to think he's a money grabber. Yeah but the people who think that almost certainly don't know him and have never spoke to him. Clark may misjudge his character of course but he stands a sight better chance of judging him accurately when he sits down and talks to him than they do.

I'm sure we could sign him on a bosman now so he comes to us in the summer. Hopefully this will put off other teams who don't what to pay any money for him.

The fan's seem keen on keeping him not tempted by the 200,000 wonder what our max bid would be for him

Quote from Mark McGhee "My suspicion is he would see his future down south.
"Meanwhile, I understand the attraction Hearts have to offer.
"They're a bigger club than Motherwell in the sense that they've got a larger fan base"Hearts average attendance is 14,300 (Top tier of Scottish football) ours is 13,300 in the third tier of English football. Looks like we tick two of the boxes ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Another Latics fan here. Porter is a lucky player and would definitely be an asset. You may recall he scored one off his arris when we won 3-0 at your place a couple of years ago and he scored quite a few fortunate goals off his shins and the like that season. I recall him scoring one goal while lying on the floor with what I thought looked like another fortnight out. He does spends a lot of time offside and even longer injured though. He had 4 or 5 mini spells on the sidelines in his 20 goal season and it took him 3 games to get going again each time. He had dodgy mushy peas which I suppose could show up in a medical. Proven at this level though and from what I saw a fortnight ago, exactly what you need to make an assault on the top places.
