Don't want him.I have seen him play many times.Agreed that he had a good start to the season but the previous 2 seasons he was poor.Would rather have Graham for that sort of money.

Adding to my earlier point, I would also like Graham and would probably rather we upped our bid on him rather than splash 750k on Lambert. Happy either way

For all you doubters out there. He's second top scorer in our league. He's got the 4th best goals game ratio in the whole of England, and he is a big man. Have you seen his physical presence? He ran the game at the Galpharm earlier this season, he can score free-kicks, headers, 40 yardvolleys and clever tap ins. He is a supreme striker. He's gone off the boil a lttle bit this month, which is surely a bonus to us, because it'll bring down his price, and also ward off potential buyers from the championship. If we id a million for him i woulnd't complain, you've got to be something special to be second top scorer in the league when you play for a team like Bristol

why not go for Cody Macdonald and/or Lee Novak, i know they are nonleague players at present but they would cost a lost less and judging by all accounts they are young lads with big physical presences with an eye for goal, and their wage demands would be a lot smaller and also they are both quicker than Lambert. I would much prefer that option as it would also free up cash for a centre back with a bit of pace which we really need, as Clarke and Butler are good defenders but when up against men with pace they get ripped everytime. Plus we are short of cover in that position.

Bristol Rovers supporter here.
Rickie Lambert is a class act and has been superb for us since he joined in August 2006, scoring countless goals of major importance. Technically he's outstanding and his reading of the game is on another level than his team mates. He's had a dry patch in the last four games or so, but his form upto that point was fantastic.
Personally I would be surprised if he joined another League One club but footballs a funny game and ultimately money talks.

i think the others could score goals as well. Take the cases of Mclean, Kightly, Mackael-Smith, Eastwood, Ian Wright, Pilko, George Boyd,...to name but a few. The list of non-league players who have been given a chance and gone onto to perform really well in the football league is endless. I cant fully comment on the cases of Macdonald and Novak, but the reviews and attention they are recieving now are indicative to the immense potential they both have. Plus they are both up and coming players with a lot to proove and a hungry appetite, i would have question marks over Lamberts age and attitude (judging by Bristol Rover's fans opinions).

You wouldn't refer to Sheff Utd as Sheffield. and b) Your only four ahead of us should we win our games in hand (granted we probably won't). We're no Brazil but we're a half decent side at this level.

That's the point though.
That many goals in an average side makes the achievement that bit more impressive.

Lamberts not even 27 yet and is big and finds the net at this level, and can most likely do it a fair bit at Championship... I thought that is what we all wanted?

dont get me wrong rjs. I would love to see Lambert here, i think he is a good player and we need a big lad up front. I just think £750,000 is a lot to spend on a guy who has four months left on a contract :/
Any way its not my money thats being spent and if Deano is happy and able to fund this then so be it. I think im just a bit shocked after years of spending nothing we are going mental with money. Its a bit like the wife coming home everyweek with economy tesco food and one day she comes home with a £500 bill spent on a bottle of champagne. You are pleased to drink it and she has bought it with her own money, but you think it could be spent more wisely and you also have a feeling it seems too good to be true.
Anyways forgive my doubts, at the end of the day we all want whats best for town and we should trust Clarky. UTT

I agree with you totally that £750,000 for a player almost out of contract in league 1 is a lot. I thought it was a slightly steep anyway. I'd maybe try 400-500 grand on Graham before this. But like you say, its not our money, we just have to trust their judgement.

In answer to your point B mate, yeah sorry about this, that comment makes us sound like our supposedly more illustrious neighbours who tend to belittle us at times!! I think what is meant, and without getting carried away, we are on a real up at the moment!! Playing great football, good crowds, a great managment team and some money to spend!! I guess we would like to think we are going places and could therefore attract someone of Lambert's quality and why we feel he would be better with us than you!!!

In his first season in the Premier his goals fired Ipswich into Europe and was the top scoring Englishman, playing in a weaker Premier side side. If players like Michael Ricketts can play for England, Marcus Stewart could have captained the side!!
