DATM awards, Reece, you present the trophies. Tog Terrier can be MC. And the winner for Best Kitchen Fitter is........... ! Well it wouldn't be you would it Doesn't surprise me that this thread was started by our Polish friend but what does surprise me is the strength of feeling generated against the club by the whole matter. It's pretty much a lot of fuss about nothing IMO. At a time when everything about the club is positive and optimism is at it's highest level for decades some still have to find a reason to have a go. I shake my head in disbelief sometimes I really do.

Sorry Ben but you appear to be in the minority here.
Various posters on this thread have given Town credit for what they have done and are doing this season (as I do)but I think they are out of order on this issue.
Hopefully they will reconsider.

This is surely a poorly thought through idea. The supporters who vote for such awards should be in control of such awards.
If the club want to organise an end of season corporate event surely there is another iniative they could use for all the business partners who have supported the club throughout the season? Perhaps a season review night with guest speakers and MC would have been a better idea?
The sponsorship of the Hargreaves trophy is wholly ill conceived and inappropriate. It is even more disappointing that the Hargreaves family have not been consulted.
To be fair to SMJ and DH this is the first time that anyone has had cause to question a business decision they have taken. I would be surprised if it wasn't something that wasn't rectified.

You're right, dugnet - as you often are - and having re-read my comments last night, I realise that I didn't make it as clear as I should that my real objection was to the commercialisation of the Hargreaves Trophy. I believe that will be sorted out today and then we can revert to the positive partnership between Club and Supporter that has been developed with a lot of hard work

Can't someone at HTSA ask for the return of The Hargreaves Trophy and HTSA organise the award presentation. Surely the club would think twicw if asked to return the trophy.

I can ask, but when it comes down to it I believe the decision regarding the Hargreaves Award rest firmly with Edith's family. If they want it to remain a 'Supporters Club' award then we'll happily maintain that tradition. If they want it to remain a 'Club Award' then we'll go along with that as well. Either way I doubt it will be sponsored.

Definitely a phony rumour. The Club website states that the venue is the stadium banqueting suite. I have already made my views known to other members of the HTSA committee and will re-state them on here. This is totally out of order and quite shameful and shameless. What would poor Edith make of it? Has the family been consulted? I very mych doubt it. And that's not the only one either. Another Memorial Trophy is up for grabs. Has there been any consultation on that one either? Come on, Sean, the sooner this is reconsidered the better. Is the other trophy you refer to the Derek Holmes memorial trophy, Bob? If this is the case Derek, like Edith, was a lifelong Town fan whose life was tragically ended in a car crash. He was a very good friend of mine and a follower of Town all over the country during the late seventies/early eighties on the Supporters Club coaches. Blessed with a superb personality,he was a joy to have known. Many of our group that went together can still be seen (and heard) at the Galpharm. Nick, Wakey Bob, Wakey Pete, Kirky (starter of the "gooooooo-onnnnnnnn" shout that was in evidence at the very start of the games at Leeds Road) on the same coaches were Henry (now also gone, Ray, Al and many more. I remember at the POTY do at the end of the 4th div championship winning season dancing to the Gibson Brothers (pissed) in a circle with many of the above named and joining in (also pissed) were Steve Kindon, Brian Stanton and the two Peters - Hart and Fletcher. Now that was a REAL POTY do. Was that the one that was held at the Greenhead masonic hall? if so brilliant night as i remember (just!) had the players singing the songs back to us, that we had been singing to them all season, had loads of ale bought by different players that night I might even still have the bottle green suit that i wore that night in my wardrobe

Bet you struggle to get into the suit now (bottle green )

What a very definitely disastorous decision. The club and those involved should very definitely think again.
I hope if they don`t then no one sponsors it.
