is way too high for next season IMO. What if we dont come out he traps fast and we are struggling. Sack Clark and our premiership class backroom staff? Lets face it most of the team isnt good enough for us to expect any sort of push next year as the squd currently stands. We need 6 quality additions and a change in the mentality of the players to have any chance next year. Cannot see it happening in one close season so i hope the same people who say we will storm it next season arent the ones calling for Clarks head in October On the game yesterday, i thought we played well, and in the context of recent away performances i think it is a good point!

No reason not to be optimistic given that we could still grab a playoff spot yet. Main weakness is lack of goals so if we could solve that problems, keep Smithies and maybe a couple more defenders then promotion is a real possibility. Pilks and Ainsworth were quality signings so why not at least 3/4 more in the summer.
Ok, to talk about running away with it is a little premature, especially when we could be up against the likes of Southampton, Charlton, and Norwich. This year has been unfortunate coz we had an awful start and we have to remember that Lee is still a very inexperienced manager, but with the backroom in place we have to expect a promotion push.
Oh and if anyone shouts for Lee Clarks head then they want shooting, give the guy time to get it right!!

New CB - to partner Clarke or Butler and give genuine competition
New LB - Williams/Skarz not good enough - Werling maybe the answer havent seen much of him yet
New RB - Holdsworth not good enough if we are looking at top of league 1 - more adept in mifield anyway
New DM - the elusive Barry Horne type player ; (Berrett maybe this player with time)
New CM - to partner Goodwin or Collins, both of which arent good enough together but maybe okay with the new Barry Horne
two new strikers
of course this wont happen because we have to offload the dead wood which is Skarz, Unsworth, Lucketti, WIlliams, Glennon, Kamara, Clarke (T), Jevons and Parker (who i still think may have something to offer.
This leaves Ainsworth, Cads, Pilkington and Roberts and Smithies, who IMO are amongst the best in the division in their posistions

We don't need another left back. Williams has been one of our best players in recent weeks, and Werling can play there. A right back as cover would be good, maybe a loanee from a Premier League club would be something to look at. A CM to cover Goodwin (not good enough ). Although Worthington could possibly do this, if he sticks around. Two new strikers are an obvious requirement (maybe even 3). In conclusion, all we need to alter for the first team is the strike force. Most of the team is a class above the opposition every week, but we're unable to turn our dominance into goals. Apart from that, a couple of additions as cover are also necessary.

Dont reck we need to make many changes to midfield, Goodwin, Collins, Roberts, Craney, Ainsworth, Pilks, Berrett, Holdsworth and Cads are more than good enough for this div. Strikers are defo needed and i agree on another CB and RB/LB. Of course we may need another keeper if Smithies goes. Glennon aint good enough!!

I can't see any reason for not being optomistic because let's face it however weak you think the side is in certain areas if we'd had a striker who was capable of scoring 15 to 20 goals we'd be right up there now. The majority of teams in this division are awful and I don't think we need to be playing like Man U to get in the playoffs next season at least.

It's not just strikers though, the tactics have to change and we have to play attacking football for more than just 45 minutes even more so when we are only one goal up, how many times have we been 1-0 up then gone defensive and lost, I know it's difficult for 90 but we need to be more domineering

I think the expectation is still too high this season. Fair enough if he had a proper chance to have who he wants here (January isn't good enough for that, noone wants to sell then).
I think we look really good, as good as anybody in the division footballing wise, we just don't have the movement or options up front to be mroe direct like we need to at times.
I think a couple of competant strikers would see us looking for more through balls to run onto (lets face it, they would be a waste of time right now).
Our defence needs more solidarity and a couple of goalscorers and I think we will look pretty good. Our midfield is doing more than it should right now (i.e. being the only ones to score goals)

Clark and the rest of the backroom staff is the way to go. Keep them for as long as possible. You can't keep chopping and changing the management. All we are lacking to get out of this division is 2 good strikers. I cant remember the last time we were so weak up front. I'm writing this season off as far as going up but it'll give Clark more games as a manager and he'll know the problems we're having up front needs to be dealt with.

expectation should be high for a club like ours..i,v said this before and i will say it again huddersfield town should be a top 10 championship side no higher no less!!!dean knows this and eventually it will come,,,we are on par with 85 other football clubs regarding our away following[not home],,,,we have no where near REACHED OUR FULL POTENTIAL REGARDING THIS,,,,like i said the other day if we were top of the league 10 pts clear do you honestly think i and many hundreds of others would of been sat at home yesterday?dont think so we would of tried to get in some how,and if not the pubs around stockport would of been packed...this hase,nt happened yet but when it does its gunna be a good party,,,,,,,TTID

I think we have every reason to be confident about next season - we have improved dramatically since Stanley left, it's just a pity we wasted about 1/3 of the season. Our away form is worrying but we all know that if we had someone to put the ball in the net we would be in the play offs now - despite our awful start.
Secondly, with a full pre-season under Clark our boys will be fitter and more used to the tactics he wants to play. This, coupled with the new strikers we will have in place, will ensure that the team will have the confidence to keep playing their football having gone one up. In turn, us being two or more goals in front will ensure that whatever defence we have will look a lot more competent, because they won't be under as much pressure.
Therefore, I feel we have EVERY reason to be confident about next year. This division is really poor, but don't worry about the teams coming down, recent history shows that it's the teams coming up who pose the most problems - a further indication of how poor this league is.

Wouldnt say we have improved dramatically - considering we have spent close to £1m and signed 4 or 5 players.
Our away form under LC is terrible.
And his failure to address the striking situation worrying.
We definitely need the players detailed earlier although i would add another centre back as well.
If this is a really poor league - god knows what that says about us having floundered in midtable for the majority of our 4(?) seasons back here.

It says that we are an average 3rd division side whose fans seem to think we have a god given right to be much better than we actually are. Running away with it next year is crazy talk. If we are challenging for play offs, based on our challenges this year, it will be a result.

Lets face it most of the team isnt good enough for us to expect any sort of push next year as the squd currently stands. Think thats total rubbish. I keep saying this but our strikers ALL SEASON, in league and cup, have scored about EIGHT, thats EIGHT, goals in open play!!!!!!! No team in history has ever been successful with a record like that! It is nothing short of miraculous that we are even in with a chance of the play-offs at this late stage, when we have had NOTHING up front all season long. To run down the midfield or defence is totally missing the obvious. Just how many more points would this team have by now if we'd had a 25 goal a season striker on the pitch? Id say a conservative estimate would be 10, maybe as much as 15. The list of games we've dominated in terms of chances yet failed to win, is as long as your arm, saturday being a typical example, where we should have been out of sight by the time the play-off chasing opponant we'd just dominated on their own lousy pitch, spawned an equaliser. This midfield and defence you're claiming aren't good enough have not only taken the job of restricting the oposition but have also carried the burden of having to score ALL our goals aswell, and the fact we're only 6 points off the play offs in March, suggests theyve done an outstanding job IMO. Put simply, if we'd had the same defence and midfield as we've played all season, that you and one or two others says need replacing to be successful, but had had one or even better ,two, half decent strikers leading its forward l;ine, we would now be not just cemented in the play-off places, but in all liklehood challenging the top 2 for the automatic spots. So to say the defence and midfild isn't good ebnough is utter nonsense IMO.

Well said Captain. I noticed there a few posts about Clarke (POTS!) being dropped after Saturday. I nearly died of a fit of laughter! I personally wasn't there but it seemed Stockport barely created a thing.
I'm sure if I looked hard enough they'll be a post stating that Collins should be dropped as well. And play Gary "completely out of form and no defensive skills whatsoever" Roberts in centre mid!

Theres places in the squad that need strengthening obviously. We do need a third CB to challenge the two we play. We could do with another right back to challenge AH. Players like Unsworth, Kamara, Booth and sadly Worthington will be released as they are out of contract to make room for them, whilst others such as Lucketti ,Jevons and Flynn we will probably be stuck with for the time being.
But the players we have in our squad are MORE THAN good enough to finish top 2 in the league BUT ONLY WITH A STRIKER OR TWO TO SCORE THE GOALS. If you took Fryatt and Howard out of Leicesters team and replaced them with parker and Jevons, then Leicester would in all likelyhood be more or less where we are in the league- thats the point!

The simple fact is,we don,t have the 20 goal striker,so we won,t finish in the play-offs,and if we don,t get him{them}in the summer the same will apply next season...I hope the Manager realises this soon!

haha so in one post captain you say "butler was at fault for all three of crewe's goals" then you say we dont need a centre back? fucking hell - you reckon a defence of Williams, Butler, Clarke and Holdsworth are solid enough to get us promoted? not a chance - if that remains our first choice back four next season i will give you my house if we end up promoted personally i would release AH, Skarz, Unsworth and Lucketti and bring in a new left back, a new right back and two new centre backs. how do you think the players in the squad are more than good enough if we added a couple of strikers? you reckon we would have won 4-3 at Carlisle and Crewe and 5-4 at Leicester? or are we blaming Jevons, Parker and Lukas for that?

Goals change games though don't they? If we'd taken our chances on Saturday the likelihood is Stockport wouldn't have scored because the game would have been all but over. The Carlisle game started quite brightly for us in the first ten minutes, who knows what would have happened had we gone 1 up? The whole mentality of the opposition changes. That back four were immense against Leeds, now they aren't good enough? They held out against Peterborough who have 2 of the highest scorers in the league also. Tom Clarke getting back to some form by all accounts aswell so surely it isn't absolutely necessary to do a major overhaul on the defence? I wouldn't mind seeing 1 defender and 2 strikers come in the summer, but I'd be happy with just the 2 strikers to be honest.

What's your house like floyds? ;D
Basically yes I do think a defence of those 4 is good enough to get us promoted. It was leicester that Butler losing out in the air cost us 3 goals but it was a mistake by Lee Clark really as it should have been Nathan Clarke who was given the job of marking Howard as hes the stronger of the two in the air. Like I said further up, we DO need another CB to challenge those 2, but as it is they are perfectly good enough and its laughable to use 1 game as a reason to get rid of a player anyway.
Im not saying we would never lose a game FFS! Im saying with a couple of half decent strikers we would have turned a lot of the many draws and defeats in games where we have dominated and created chance after chance into wins, and those extra 10-15 points would have this team in and around the automatic places. Therefore the players in this squad WOULD BE good enough.
The only thing that seperates us from the teams above us is goals from strikers.
Leicester- Fryatt 22, Howard 10 Scunny - Hooper 19, Hayes 11 Oldham- Hughes 16 Mk Dongs- Wilbraham 12, Leven 10 Peterbro- Mackail-Smith 18, McLean 16 Leeds- Beckford 18
Town- Parker 2, Jevons 2, Booth 2, Lucas 0, Cads 0, Roberts ( whilst up front) 0
Can't you see the problem here?

Even a successful side can have certain weaknesses especially in this division. That means the likes of Williams could be carried (although I agree he has looked decent recently).
1 goalscorer could be the difference between our current position and a top two finish.
4 quality signings including a centre back, a central midfielder and two strikers should be more than enough.
Jevons, Parker, Worthington, Unsworth, Lucketti will go leaving ample space in the squad for those 4. Werling to resign?
