got some Leeds Road turf that i nicked after the blackpool game in my old house in mirfield!!! I'll have to go back in the dark one night and nick it back ;D ;D What a brilliant end of an era to Leeds Road too, a game against arsenal in the league cup, an escape from relegation and a wembley appearance to boot... Never fotget singing que sera sera in full voice at the carlisle game and then at every game till the final!!!! Ex East terracesider!!!!! We played Bradford in the weeks leading up to the final that year. After we equalised it seemed like every person in the ground was singing que sera sera. I had never heard the terrace that loud.

Was that the Bradford game where we had Chris Billy sent off after 2 minutes, went one down and Iain Dunn levelled it at the end? If it is then I'll agree on the atmosphere. Being stood at the open end end of the Terrace I can still remember the place going absolutely barmy! It also ended Bradford's play-off hopes if I remember rightly.

I remember that game but I had it down in my head as a cup game. If only I had access to some sort of stats database Leeds Road seemed rammed that day, I was stood in the corner towards the Cowshed

It was definitely a League game, right at the end of the season. I didn't even have to check up on that Iain Dunn, Iain Dunn, Iain Iain Dunn. He's got no hair, but we don't care. Iain, Iain Dunn!!

For me Iffy_and_bent hit the nail on the head earlier - 'i can still smell the wiff of pipe tobacco and the taste of fish n chip flavor crisps when i see them pics'.
I was only 12 when we left leeds road and those are two of my most vivid memories. Like a lot of others around my age (27) and younger i sometimes wish i could have experienced the atmosphere of leeds road in my teens and early twenties.
Anyway great thread, great memories!

I think the FA Cup game was at Valley Parade with Iain Dunn scoring a brace on his debut.

Best chant that day: "We're off to Wembley, we're off to Wembley, YOU'RE NOT, YOU'RE NOT!" Leeds Road was never 'full' in the 5/6 years I had there, even for the sold out Blackpool game. I remember thinking how much room there was on Popular Side towards the Dalton Bank end. Near enough same ground held 67,000, remember. Oh, and I've got the home dressing room bog seat in my attic somewhere....

I was at the same end of the terrace as you towards the Bradford fans, by the time things calmed down I was about 15 feet further down the terrace than before.

I think the FA Cup game was at Valley Parade with Iain Dunn scoring a brace on his debut. He scored the opener and was then brought down(and subsequently picked up and headbutted) for the penalty for 2-0,I think Keiran will have taken that.Another glorious day ;D. O to spend one more 90 minutes at Leeds Road if only for you younger ones that dont/have vague memories of what a proper ground was like

Great memories lads.
I remember going to the game (as usual) and trying to take in the "last times", if you know what I mean.
Also, holding back tears when I first arrived on the terrace and ending up with that kind of sore throat feeling.
Thankfully, I was with my old man and we still go together to this day, but I remember thinking that a lot of lads will have lost their dads over the years and with the closing of Leeds Road, another happy memory of lads and dads would go with the old ground.
It was such a shame, because we never got out sung in that place and the sound that came out of the terrace (I understand it was exactly the same size and shape as Man City's Kippax and the terrace at Burnley), was bang on.
Very very happy days.

Brought back many, many memories for me. The players I have seen who have come and gone. The muddy pitch, would have been unplayable in this day and age. The wafts of cigarette smoke rising all the way along the terrace. Advertising hoardings urging us to use Esso oil! The perrenial Examiner sign above the Cowshed. On a less nostalgic note, the horrid stench of piss when you went for a slash, shoulder to shoulder with like minded Town fans, slashing against a concrete wall and standing in puddles of the stuff. Happy days!!!
