I remember Franny Firth running down the wing and have vague recollections of him and another getting sent off at Barnsley in the mid 70's and I think we still won the game. Can someone with a better memory than me confirm this?

Can someone with a better memory than me confirm this? I might have got the wrong game Doc, but I saw Town lose at Barnsley 2-1 in October 1976 and Franny Firth played. In fact it was the last time I saw Firth play, but I'd just started working then and was away a lot. Nobody got sent off though. Mick Butler scored against his old team.

Was Mick butler good or was it just my age ?

Butler had come out of non-league (I think) with Barnsley and was scoring for fun. He was seen as a big signing when he joined Town who were pretty poor then and struggling to score goals (Garwood, Belfitt, Newton.......not surprising really!). My memory may be playing tricks a bit but I seem to remember Butler struggling to make an impact at Town for a long time, before eventually hitting form after a season or so.

I worked with Franny for many years and he really is a top bloke . He had to leave Royal Mail because of recurring knee problems . I am glad he has settled into his new job and wish him all the best . P.S he would fit in on this forum as he is one of the best moaners I have met .
