Pilks has been my favourite player for the past two seasons and is undoubtebly the star player in our team. However I dont believe any player is irreplacable and if the money or deal is right we should sell. The price we get should be enough to replace him with Ward and also some more. If they really want him Deano should make them pay top end for sure. We will not get Danny Ward. He's wanted by Bolton for next season. Try again Ok errrm .. Enough money for Dale Stephens and throw in Macdonald.

Reading through other posts on Rhodes, Smithies, Peltier and Pilks it seems a lot of people are happy to dismantle the squad and take the cash. Yet they'll still demand a top two finish by Clark and co.
Selling your best players and going all out for promotion surely don't mix? I know the buying of youth with a view of selling them on was always part of the plan but surely not all of them at once at such a crucial part of our overall goal of Championship football??
As I say, unless they offer a stupid amount of money we should do all we can to keep our stars. They are all under contacts putting us in a great position to stand firm and negotiate.

Pompey, clearly some people forget what happened when we sold Marcus Stewart. I heard one or two fans at the final saying stuff like 'if only Pilks had been playing' well sell him and he wont be playing for us again will he! Keep the stars and the team together and lets get out of this league next year

Im not one for selling our best players, however as I've said earlier if the deal is right then it will have to be done. Of course I'd love to keep Pelts, Pilks, Rhodes and Smithies. But if a Premier League club comes calling it will be difficult to keep a player happy (even though still under contract) when having denied them a shot at the big time.

to be truthfull, I look at our squad being assembled, and could easily pick out several players who I could say the same about. But in saying that, many said that last season about much the same group of guys, the championship was too much for them and we would be fighting relegation, but hell fire we played established championship sides off the park at times, I do believe that the prem is a totally different ball game, filled with some of the best players in the world.
I am not expecting City to try and compete with the chelski's manure's man cities etc we have to concentrate on picking up the points against the Bolton,s Wigan,s Stokes etc. I believe the prem could easily be split into two leagues when talking about it. We aren't stupid enough to think we are top league. If we can go and give it a right good go I'll be more than happy, who the hell really cares what others say especially Alan Freakin Hanson or Gary (Smary) Linaker
I wanna enjoy it again, but deep deep down I know there will be times when I wish we were on a more level playing field, playing more honest teams and players. But I also know you and thousands of fans from all clubs would love to have this chance. That makes me not want to lord it or gloat, well perhaps a couple of excptions Ips*t Dirty Leeds

Before the injury AP could have easily slotted into a Prem league team. This would feel as bad as the defeat at old trafford and a pure kick in the angel falls. If Leeds have said they want £8m for Snodgrass, we shouldn't accept anything less than that either. Jesus, I know love grows in absence, but come on...

That's a good point and I certainly don't advocate dismatling the squad we have at the moment. However I think that not getting up (whoevers fault it is) will give some of our brighter young players itchy feet, so if clubs from higher divisions come in for them then their heads will be turned. I do think that it would be far more difficult to replace Rhodes and Pilks than say Smithies and Pelts as goals and the ability to create something from nothing are the two most prized commodities in football which is why they attract premium prices. If I were Deano or Clarky I would fight tooth and nail to keep Pilks, or at the very least look for a figure similar to those quoted for CMS.

Theres no need to sell pilks...it would be like doing another 'stewart' and that cost us promotion that year and im pretty sure if pilks goes for a poxy 1.75 mil (it is for a player like pilks and his valuation would only go u when we ge promoted), then I think that could be the difference, again in us getting playoffs rather than autos. Id take the risk that pilks doesnt come back 'as good' from his injury because theres more to gain, if he does play like he did before, than lose if he doesnt come back the same player.
Im really glad all those people who are saying sell him aren't the ones deciding if pilks stays.

I like Pilks, don't get me wrong, BUT, you can do a lot with £1.75 million and i think its a great offer for a player who we ain't sure how he will return post injury. We are not likely to see Pilks this side of Christmas and we could have signed 3-4 good players with that money and be well in command in the league by the time he comes back. Also i think a club like Norwich would be a good move for him. Fans on here are to quick to get emotionally tied to players and forget that Football is a business now and these guys are just commodities. I think it's less of a risk Norwich paying £1.75 million for him, than Town not cashing in and making use of the money we get. Not likely to see him this side of Christmas? What the hell are you talking about?! He was injured near the start of March, He and LC even said before the P/O final that it was highly likely he'd be fit for the start of the season! If he is back any time before November i will give you the money myself.

eue Matty, i credit you with been one of the brighter posters on here, so don't tell me Pilks is irreplaceable. Do you think that we would be starting next season in a different league if Pilks had remained fit. If you say yes then i will believe you have been sniffing Bostick since 6 this morning. I get sick of fans on here saying how things might have been different if Johnson or Pilks would have remained fit. What a load of Bullshit. Players are like Racehorses they dip in and out of form and only the thoroughbreds remain at the top of their game. £1.75 million for a player who's future form has a massive question mark over it is good business. Half the season is going to be over by the time he comes back. So you think the fact that at pretty much any given point last season, having at least one of our key players injured didn't affect the outcome of our season? Think it's you that's been on the bostik lad. Yes i am absolutely certain if he had been 100% fit it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to our finishing position nor our play off final result.

Every manager not matter who should do and try to get the best he possibly can, but sorry you can't put your guy in the same bracket as CMS, he scores goals and has done your guy has been out for ages.
Put a price on his head to keep him, just like DLeeds have done with Snodgrass, I think if our manager went after him at that price he wants his head testing. give half that with a few addons climbing the total price highier over the contract length.
I liked Lee Clarke, when he was with us, I would rather have had him than the club destroyer Glenn Rodent. He could do a hell of a lot worse than sticking a bid in or asking for Cody MacDonald. the boy is still a little raw on the edges, but hell he knows where the net is, and will run through brick walls.
Could be a great little player championship top level in my own opinion

i dont understand why people say 'snap their hand off' etc....we're not football chairman and its not our money. personally i'd rather we kept all our best players!! people seem more bothered about selling a player for a nice profit than keeping him and winning something.
yes we would have a bit more money to spend but it means more player turnover again, with no guarantee they will be as good.
madness.

If I were Deano or Clarky I would fight tooth and nail to keep Pilks, or at the very least look for a figure similar to those quoted for CMS. That's exactly my point. Either they pay over the odds for our key players or they remain at Huddersfield Town. We sell one, possibly two (Peltier and Smithies?) to bring in some cash and bring in some more talent with the money. 1. We gain promotion with our stars and we have £10m and their valuations rise. 2. We fail again and THEN sell Pilks, Rhodes for £Xm but still have the other stars we bought with the Peltier money etc and the cycle continues. Win - Win - and if they DO pay over the odds then again, we WIN!

Half the season is going to be over by the time he comes back. Maybe we could sign John Bostick from Spurs as his replacement ;D No I don't think he'd have made the difference... We had too many frailties in the centre of the park for me and still do. When you look back at Pilks in form - I don't see many players at this level who can do the things that he can do. Genuinely 2 footed, skillful, fantastic shot with both feet, corners, free kicks - he's superb when on form. He's scored some truly excellent goals from nothing and what maybe I should have said is... Pilks is one of the most talented players at this level, sure there are better and similar players out there but I don't see LC or HTFC being able to attract someone of that quality here. I know money talks and we'd have a lot more of it but I genuinely don't see where we'd get the next Pilks from and knowing our luck we're more likely to end up with the next Lionel Ainsworth... I take the point we could take 2m and improve all areas of the side which would compensate for his loss but for me we'd lose that little bit of magic that Pilks possesses and I don't think a club of our stature would find it easy to replace that... Hopefully I'd be wrong. Point i'm making Matty is that if Pilks had remained injury free then i would be screaming out for more money, had he remained in the same form, or i would be trying to keep hold of him. What people on here blindly think is he is going to be exactly the same player he was pre injury. Not in a million years is that a guarantee. So what do you do, keep hold of him and pray or let him go and make use of the money we get to make a realistic push to making the step up. I know what I'd do, but then again i would have played 2 up front in the play off final, so what do i know.

Wrong!! I'm concerned about getting out of this tin pot league and taking a risk on a player who isn't guaranteed to come back anywhere near as good as he was prior to his injury when we are been offered enough money to buy 4 quality players, is potentially a massive error.

Cms is good but id much prefer pilks anyday

What IF he does come back the same player and we under value him? Any player can pick up a serious injury in football, it's a risk with anyone. Surely we can trust Clark, Hoyle and the medical staff at Town to assess Pilkingtons condition and his recovery correctly?

Every manager not matter who should do and try to get the best he possibly can, but sorry you can't put your guy in the same bracket as CMS, he scores goals and has done your guy has been out for ages. Pilks has just turned 23 and CMS passed 27 months ago meaning that Pilks is still to reach his potential and pretty soon CMS will begin his decline, especially given that his main attributes are his pace and fitness. I don't think his ability on the ball is all that great so won't be able to tweak his game in his later years. Providing Pilks comes back as good as new, look at Antonio Valencia who suffered a similar injury for recovery standards, he will only get better and possesses far more natural ability than CMS who, despite his relatively mature years, has only played one season above League One and hardly set the world alight during that time.

just one thing, if we sell pilks and dont make it out of this league due to lack of goals, wins, being able to finish a crap team off, like last season, then all of you that says sell pilks would or should not ask for lee clarke to be sacked and dont go crying on this board when it all goes tits up..because that would be one of the key reasons if we dont quite make it next season.
How can anyone think of selling pilks for that amount of money..hes the best player weve had for about 10yrs and youd sell him for that amount of money...bad injury or not lets keep him. much more to gain than lose if we kept him. I know one player isnt the team, but seriously selling pilks would be a massive mistake, even if hes no the player like last year...he could still get back to that level.

Pilkington is easily in the bracket of CMS if not better. Fair enough CMS scores goals for fun at this level, but is suspect in the league above. I know you don't know too much about pilks, but the boy really is gifted, possibly the most gifted player I've ever seen at our club in my life time (bar Stewart). You will do well to find a better 2 footed winger outside the premier league for his age and if you do sign him, he will soon win your hearts over, I have absolutely no doubt about that what so ever!
He is simply irreplaceable at this level, and I really cant believe the amount of people wanting to take the money.

Thanks, I agree he does sound better, I wasn't a fan of lambert buying cms anyways. but I still think the comparison was a little wide of the mark, we know any player who scores goals attracts a highier price. all the artilces I have read (admittedly all re hashes) all say Huddersifield value him at £2 mill, so £1.75 mill is not a bad starting bid... with some good addons could see that go to £2.5 +
We just got Bennett for less, he has just had a good season. just trying to see what a good average rate is for league One players

If your looking to buy pilks itcould be one of the best bargains ever, but it could also be a mistake. have a look on youtube at some of pilk's play, hes worth watching. By the way pilks is no average league 1 player.
