Just sat pondering about what to expect from next season atmosphere wise. Personally thought the atmosphere round the Pharm in general improved a fair bit towards the back end of last season, the Bournemouth play off match was pretty epic, and the Carlisle in JPT stands out as being another decent night. Stewarding seemed to be a bit hit and miss last season (one week you could stand througout then week after folk were being chucked for it ) but seemed to get a bit more lienient (sp) towards the back end which obviosuly helped. Be good to get a decent atmosphere throught the season, also be nice to add a bit more colour the stands. Saw some of the Rangers match earlier and they've set up a "Singing Section" which looked/sounded decent. We be nice if we could get or singing section looking a bit more like the below: Wonder if we'll get the South Stand again for some games? Be nice if we could be nothing from the club as of yet? Anyone moved specifically to the Singing Section this year after last season? Looking at ST sales seems attendances may be down on last year so might make it easier for groups of mates to move across and make some noise... Would be nice to be able to look forward to home games rather than endure them.

I've got my seats just a few behind you this season, Poznan lad!
I've managed to drag VinceTerrier down to our level as well.

I'd like to see something like that (although the choice of club annoys me), if a few people were to make a banner/two to games, i'd bring mine along, and we could have a bit of colour on match days

Was embarrassing, especially when the standard near silence was outed when the speakers were turned off. The atmosphere is what it is though. We'll never have a ground that's bouncing every week until we have a team that every week puts in 100%, plays attractive football, and wins. At the moment it is reciprocal, the team puts a few silky moves together, the crowd gets a bit excited and makes a bit of noise. This sometimes leads to a prolonged bit of noise - although not really in direct golf lower - which occasionally raises the team, which raises the crowd etc However if the team doesn't look interested, the crowd hides behind their pies and stupid expensive crap hotdogs. This singing section as I see it is full of a heady mix of drunk old town fans, chavs and wannabe hooligans. :drunk: just as likely to support as to whinge and moan when the chips are down.

Trouble with Town fans is we are always making excuses why we can't do stuff. Nearly every big club in the world have a well organised set of fans, usually in one section of the ground willing to put on a bit of a display at each game.Just search 'tifo' on you tube. To be honest I think most Town fans go to to the Galpharm out of duty and for a good moan. by the way I went to York races on friday night-Blondie were on after. There were 25000 pissed up people at the end, they were allowed to bring in deckchairs, picnics, as many cans of beer as they wanted, umbrellas, tents etc and nobody was searched at all. How come everything is a fire risk or unsafe at football and not elsewhere. The world has gone mad! Right wheres mi slippers?

Ground doesn't work in League 1
1 end for away fans = 1 end empty = shit atmosphere.
Championship = proper competition + proper away support = full away end = revenue from home games, better atmosphere, more home tickets sales, more encouragement for the boys = more success of the team.
Doesn't happen for teams that hedge their bets and play other club's juniors on their own up front in play off finals though.

I can't understand with the FM upper isn't an option? Loads of teams around Europe use upper tiers as singing sections

The atmosphere at most games is dreadful but were not the only club. Once/if we reach the Championship!! the atmosphere will be better.
You cant compare York races with a football ground happy joe. I imagine you ar'nt old enough to remember the Valley parade fire.

Noise travels forward out of our mouths not back, atmosphere needs to be generated from the back forwards, hate it or not it'll only work starting off up top teaching these kids and drummers proper songs

No success = no atmosphere Success = great atmosphere Agreed. The atmosphere at the Galp when we played B'muff in the 2nd leg was the best i've experienced in a long long time. God willing but imagine what it will be like if we are playing near the end of the season with the league to be won. I've started to come out of my OT depression and hope others are moving in the same direction as well. New season, new hope.

I'd say about 98% of all "Ultra" groups across the world are situated at the front of their stand.

No success = no atmosphere Success = great atmosphere Don't agree. There will be a better atmosphere in the Championship but it will all be coming from the south stand. Town fans will be drowned out because there's not enough fans willing to raise their voices and be heard in support of the team. The amount of home games I look around and see grim face after grim face unwilling to cheer on their team is staggering. Then, I assume, these are the people who come on messageboards after the match and moan at the dire performance of the team when really they should be thinking about their own performance. What did I contribute today? Did I raise up my voice? give the lads some encouragement? Be that twelfth man? Quite often I think when town are at home the worst performer is the twelfth man! Success just brings bigger crowds, not necessarily greater atmosphere. This was summed up for me at Old Trafford when the chap sat behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said, "can you sit down mate, I can't see f*ck all." The match hadn't even kicked off... :suicide:

Last season the we were voted as having the best home fans in the division in FourFourTwo. Yes we all laughed at first, but then we considered all of the other teams in the division and realised that there was no other club in the division who had an atmosphere that we would be jealous of.
Also, last season we had that magnificent quote from Poyet about the noise getting into the ref's head. Once again, we all laughed, but there were threads on here at the back end of last season where fans had noticed that we were getting the odd decision because we were asking for it.
I always complain about the atmosphere too, but when you think rationally, it's not that bad at all. When you compare like for like, how many grounds in the country are there that you can honestly say have a better atmosphere than at Town? Following Town, I can only remember Millwall where I've been amazed by the atmosphere generated by the other side, but then you think of Bournemouth and we were probably comparable, although our atmosphere was less confrontational to say the least!

Interesting "One bad pass and the moaners are out". It's true and what effect does that have?
Watching any match objectively (obviously that means HTFC are not involved) you can see that when one team starts to get an upper hand, the crowd gets behind them and their efforts increase. Meanwhile the other teams heads drop, they become defensive and the their fans shut up.
Any manager and player will always say how important it is to have the crowd behind them to play well. So really what the team getting bossed wants is their fans to cheer them on to greater efforts not to be sat there silent while they take a beating, or worse shout abuse at them.
Here's an idea then.
When Town are playing well let them know. When they are playing badly then sing instead of grumbling to people around you or jeering and booing. You can always come on here to whine after the match.
The reality is as the Sheriff has observed - we're just a set of miserable Yorkshire bastards. Certainly my dad at least would be grumbling about "we'll still manage to lose this" if we were 10:0 up with 5 minutes to play. Mindst he is 80 tomorrow so it's probably allowed
