Started initially promising and turned into utter tripe by the later series.. 1 & 2 were fantastic. 3 was daft however it was still fairly enjoyable. 4 was atrocious. I didn't make it past the 6th episode. You made the correct decision..

See how Homeland develops this series. Thought they went too overboard last series, was like they were trying to pack too much into every episode. I really enjoyed the first series, and like you wasn't too impressed with the second, but I think the third series is developing well, better than I expected after the last one, Claire Danes just seems to get better and better as the series' go on.

Agree with Band of Brothers, it really is excellent. Easily the best war film/drama that has been made and much better than the pacific (which is decent). Yeah agree with that. The episode in the snow in the woods in Belgium (i think) is fantastic. Wasn't too bothered about Pacific tbh. Nowhere near as good as B o B Bastogne. Battle of the bulge. Superb episode. You can feel the cold! I remember when Wallace was murdered in The Wire feeling crushed! There have been one or two good bbc series. Last year one called Fear gave a very very good portrayal of early stage, alcohol related dementia brilliantly played by Peter Mullan. One of the best most realistic portrayals of mental illness I've seen on screen. Also Top of the Lake- New Zealand drama was very good and very dark.

Homeland after a slow series start is getting better by the Episode. Any other series on at the moment? as there seems to be a bit of a lull.
Best comedy series was Garth Merenghi's Darkplace, had me in stitches.

Borgen 3 is currently airing in Scandanavia, apparently you won't recognise Kasper at first as he's shaved his head and beard Here is a link to a brief synopsis of what to expect: www.dr.dk/DR1/Borgen/english/synopsis3.htmHopefully the Beeb will pick it up quite soon. Just finished watching series III, I have to say as Political Dramas go you don't get much better. As to why the Brits can't produce something like this I just don't know. From the story line to the acting it was brilliant all the way through, well done to the Danes.

I noticed the other day that BBC4 is reshowing "The Bridge" in the early hours every day this week in the run up to the second series which starts in a couple of weeks. If anyone has enjoyed the recent British/French remake called "The Tunnel" then I would advise you to check out "The Bridge" series one via the BBC iPlayer.

Hell on Wheels is pretty good - raised up by a magnificently cantankerous Colm Meaney.

I knocked off all 5 seasons of 'The League' over the Christmas break. Very funny show about a group of friends in Chicago in a fantasy football league. One of those comedies where they absolutely nail the character dynamic.

Has anyone watched 'Prisoners of War'? It's an israeli series about 3 POWs that were captured and tortured for 17 years. It's what Homeland was based on (ie they took the premise and a fair bit more besides). Just started watching it and I think it's excellent.

First Born. (BBC 1988) Charles Dance. It Hauted me in my youth so I'm revisiting, cleansing & all that. ;-)
It's worth a look tho, a series that even 10 years ago would not have been commissioned. Too close to science & not close enough to science fiction.
It's a Shame modern day dramas are censored to one degree or another.

Finished the first series of Prisoners of War in about 3 days, absolutely fantastic. Less sensationalist and contrived than Homeland, and there's more than one POW so there's a lot more going on between the characters and their families. Took me so long to get round to it that I missed the second series on Sky Arts about 6 months back though. suicide

Enjoying Game of Thrones, not too bad, never known so many stunning women get their kit off on screen.
Anyway, decent enough show, hoping series three pulls some big punches.

Just bumping this thread as a reminder for the Scandi-noir fans on here. The second series of "The bridge" starts Saturday night at 9 on BBC 4. Just finished watching it this weekend, talk about hard hitting Drama, it was absolutely excellent. SPOILER ALERTThe Pernille bit was both compulsive viewing and very harrowing. It has been left wide open for series III. I've said it before, and obviously I'm going to say it again, these Scandinavian Drama's blow the British stuff out of the water. Looking forwards to next week to see if the Belgians are anywhere near as good.

I sometimes think their drama's appear better because we miss some bad acting reading the subtitles but in reality they are just great shows. Sofia Helin was interviewed in the paper on Saturday and she puts a lot of their success down to it being "gritty" and "unpolished" as a lot of US drama's are.
