The delightful Bruges and I watched what is likely to be one of many moving documentaries on this event last night.
This brought back memories of the day itself when I was actually working at Stansted Airport. Someone, it may well have been Old Stokie, posted that we should turn on the telly now. All the news sites crashed and I had at least a dozen people crowded around AWAG which was the only place you could get updates on what was unfolding.

I was plane spotting* at Stansted Airport this week.
*Well, I was stopping in a hotel there and saw an Easyjet take off.
I seem to recall being tipped off by Awag about it too. A definite JFK moment for those of us not around to tell decendants where you were at the time.

I got told by a bloke at work that a plane had crashed into the WTC. I assumed it was a nutter in a bi-plane or such like so ignored it until he told me that a 2nd one had done the same thing.
I managed to get the BBC website on my PC so the office were crowded round my computer all afternoon. A completely surreal day that was.

I had to go through an Australian site to watch it (I think is was CNN's Aussie site). I informed the select few that are my office compadres. One of whom rang his wife and asked her to switch on the telly. She then got upset and he had to go home and 'comfort her'.
I wish I'd thought of that.

My mum and dad were at a parents' evening on the day JFK had a new hairdo.
For 11/9 I was told by someone on the HTFC mailing list and watched the footage on BBC

Bizarrely, I was playing with an Air Traffic Control simulator (at work, natch) when I heard about the first plane crashing and I must admit to a twinge of fear that I had somehow caused it. Managed to see live footage of the second impact, then spent the rest of the day up at the IT department where they had about 20 monitors hanging from the ceiling that had all been tuned to CNN. This made the collapse resemble some sort of bizarre video-art installation.I bought myself a big new telly shortly afterwards, thinking that if the apocalypse was upon us than goddam it I was going to watch it in 38 inch widescreen with 5.1 sound.

I had at least a dozen people crowded around AWAG which was the only place you could get updates on what was unfolding. I'm surprised you weren't lynched and/or sectioned. Didn't catfry post something about 10 muslim bombers to the tune of "She'll be coming 'round the mountain" or something?

The lardy doth protest too much. I'm not especially bothered about 3,000 people throwing a seven, happens every day, but doing it that spectacularly was bound to leave a lasting impression in peoples' minds, you spazmoidal dungwit. As Daley said, a JFK moment.
On the other hand, I wouldn't have thought you'd have much sympathy for a bunch of lazy bastards who haven't got the get up and go to move where the food is.

I haven't...I'm just fucking bored of this plane crashing bollocks.
It's not particulary spectacular when you've seen it a 1000 fucking times. We've seen it 'through the eyes' of every prick going apart from Jimmy Krankie and the Chuckle Brothers.
JFK is equally as wank...JR Ewing getting shot was more interesting.
The fucking Yanks push the Scouse c**** all the way when it comes it over the top grief.
Haven't they got a city to mop up? Surely the latest downpour must have cleaned the decade worth of dust away?

I NEVER get bored of plane crashes. You're quite right about the mawkishness of Americans in general though. It's all that fucking mick blood in them if you ask me.
And JFK getting shot is tremendous, if only for the sight of a clearly shit-scared and blood-spattered Mrs JFK trying desperately to jump off the back of that car and run for cover but being prevented from doing so by a burly secret service type. Cunningly revised afterwards to her trying to shield her dear husband with her body. Yeah, right. He was so dear she'd shacked up with some Bubble ship owner before the year was out.

Mrs bris has been suspiciously looking up Alderholt on google maps. So you never know. Is that because you leave it as the last site visited before a spot of "in-private browsing"?
