One of the administrators next door is an English Jam Roll. He goes over there all the time. I'm sure he'll be happy to point you in the right direction. It will also distract him from the all the shit he's getting from the rest of us plebs at the moment

I'm going to Poland again on Tuesday with Mr P but we are going back to Krakow so can't help with Warsaw sorry.
If you get the chance then you should try Krakow also, it's a great place to visit.

What is the feasibility of getting to Krakow from Warsaw?

I did warsaw to krakow on the train once
I think it cost about four and a half pence although seemed to take a while (few hours anyway)
I also recall being quite taken aback by the fact that you could actually amble outside of the train carriage into the open air onto some kind of ledge with railings round to get a bit of fresh air and a proper look at where you were going
The health and safety brigade would have a duck fit in this country
Pen did you go to zakopane last time you went to Krakow? Its well worth the trip

Lark there's prob flights to Krakow from Warsaw, not sure to be honest
Tiger, no I haven't been to Zakopane but do fancy going, that might be a trip for next time.
Mr P has been to Katowice a couple of times and Poznan to watch England play, him and a shed full of his mates got a train from Prague to Katowice and says that Katowice is the worse place he has ever been for pollution, allsorts of crap falling down on you.
I'd like to visit Warsaw too but we quite fancy Russia also

What is the feasibility of getting to Krakow from Warsaw? Very easy, there's a train about every hour. The inter city being the fastest which takes 2 hours 45 minutes. Cost is about 88 złoty 2nd class for a one way ticket including seat reservation, this is about £17. You even get a free tea or coffee included

There you go Lark
Personally there's too much to do and see in and around Krakow just for a day though, that's why we are going back later today.
I hope you enjoy your trip to Warsaw and tell us all about it when you do go.

I have been to both Krakow is far better than Warsaw for bars cafes and nightlife. Krakow old town square is huge with loads of good cellar bar cafes. went up to warsaw on the train, warsaw main new town could be any eurpean city the old town quarter of Warsaw is so false in feel it could be Disney no real bars or cafes. Krakow easily fills a four night break with trips to the salt mines is excellent and Auschwitz Birkenau trip a deeply moving and upsetting trip. if you have time in Krakow take the train into the mountains and the Ski resorts in the Tatra moutains of Slovakia. the trains trip as the Polishhippy said is approx 3 hours but note the train sells [glow=red,2,300]NO [/glow]beer.

I'd disagree about the Disney feel about the Old Town in Warsaw, maybe the Royal Castle has that look and feel to it but certainly not the rest of the Old Town, in the height of summer there is a real buzz about the place. Don't forget that Warsaw was 85% destroyed by the end of WW2 and 45 years of Soviet domination post WW2 is very much reflected in the architecture of a re-built Warsaw. The Old Town and the Royal Castle have all been re-built to resemble as close as possible the buildings that were there prior to WW2. The re-building of the Royal Castle wasn't completed until 1974.
Because the Old Town is quite away from the commercial hub of Warsaw the place doesn't really have much to attract it at night. There are a good number of cafes, bars and restaurants there but most are very small and the good ones soon fill up and in winter it is difficult to find a seat in them.
In the summer many of the restaurants in the Old Town Market Square will set up eating and drinking areas on the square itself but at this time of year the square will be empty.
There are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs in Warsaw but because, unlike Kraków, there is no main city centre or focal point, they are spread about all over the place.
Warsaw is not my favourite city. The only reason I go there as often as I do is because I have family who live there and Poland play some of their home games in Warsaw. I much prefer Kraków myself.

Thanks all Train it is then, but will probably only have time for a day in Krakow, so we'll have to have another trip there sometime.
Bars etc may be better in Krakow, but lark junior is only 14 (actually he'll be celebrating his 15th in Poland) so night clubs are not what we're looking for

I spent about 3 hours in Warsaw. I remember that even though it was early September it was bloody freezing, the supermarkets were like farm shops and I saw a bloke having a crap in a bush right by a main road in the capital city!
Caught the train to Krakow and it is still my favourite train journey ever. Maybe not as dramatic as arriving in Venice at sun rise, but very relaxing, nice countryside and it happened to be a lazy Sunday day.
Krakow is superb.

"The larks are going to warsaw for a few days in February."
I presumed the Cold War had started again and Harry Palmer was trying to get a message out.

Sorry Steve, my ex-flatmate is being incredibly inept at replying to her Facebook messages.
She's from W³oc³awek, which I think is about 2 hours away from Warsaw. I know she always flys in and out of Warsaw anyway.
