Just think they need to sort it quick either way tbh, dragging on way to long now, don't want it to drag into the season especially if he is going.

dsq1011. Good post. For what it's worth Alan Nixon thinks we are now further from doing a deal with Boro than we were a few days ago. I just want it sorted one way or another so Town can plan accordingly. Must have failed yesterday's medical then .

IMO if he stays then all good... If he goes it will be massive loss but. Maybe we would sign some players then ?

"The fact that he didn’t feature in Town’s 4-1 friendly win over Guiseley on Monday night led to suggestions that he’s on the verge of leaving"
Based on that assumption, 80% of the first team must be on the verge of leaving after not playing on Monday night.

I still haven't figured out why he was having a medical in Middlesborough when he signed for Forest last week.

Maybe Clayton's had a better offer or maybe he's realised the old adage about the grass being greener....? Be careful what you wish for and all that.

Boro mate says he's having a medical. Could be bollocks, but he does have local radio links.

Reasonably reliable newsnetwork source suggests that Clayton is off. Town can't match wages offered elsewhere within ffp and wage structure and are resigned to selling him to the highest bidder. No bids accepted yet but forest and Norwich are closest to meeting 3.75 million valuation. Although they are both rumoured to be at around 2.25 at the moment.

If he goes for £2.5 million this football game is absolutely crazy. Especially if you compare that with Vaughan for £750,000 and Wells for £1.3 million.
Let 'em pay it. If I was Dean Hoyle I'd be laughing my erse off - Clayton's not that good!

Never said you were a selling club, its difficult to keep hold of your best players when the bigger clubs come in for them though, with clayton only having a year left on his contract and not looking like he is in a rush to resign then its understandable that you will probably end up selling him. Its not always about the club needing cash, it surely makes more financial sense to sell a player with a year left and be able to replace him than letting his contract run down and not being able to bring in a replacement? Not saying that we are a big club though, like many others we are probably just seen as an average championship club to other fans. I would say that we have as good of a chance at promotion this season as any other team in the league though minus fulham or norwich You were doing quite well till that last laugh out loud line

Last thing I read from a reasonably reliable source suggested Boro were not willing to come to our valuation and at that time the best offer on the table was 1.25 million + Butterfield. Not sure what Butterfield would be valued at.
Personally I think if he was going to Boro it would have happened by now. Of course there is always a chance they suddenly meet our valuation like Blackburn did with Rhodes.

Id rather take our chances and ride out the last season with him than sell him for under £1.5 million. He could be the difference between staying in this league and relegation and that is worth far more.
In addition if we have a belting season (which is entirely possible given how we have started the last two years, just need to continue it) he might sign a new contract so we don't lose at all!

If Middlesbrough want to pay crazy money, then let them, they must be mental. If some of the money is going to be spent on squad strengthening then lets do the deal.

We can't lose really either way.
