Wood, Vaughan, Wells, Ward
That's a top-8 finishing front line right there

Thought Wolves had bid £2m for him?

2m transfer fee and 25k p/w.
That's more Peter Ridsdale's thing than Deano's.

It's a shame this kind of signing won't happen to be honest. The club said they wanted to sign proven Championship quality but I assume the bigger clubs in this league will be queueing up to sign this guy and we'll probably be the last club in that queue.

Unfortunately the stay aways have seen it all before so that certainly won't happen and as Town seem to be one of the few clubs who are determined to follow FFP to the letter of the law then we're stuck with what we've got i think. Just hope it's enough and we get more of an enjoyable season than last.

Saying it's one thing doing it a totally different kettle of fish,i agree he's just the type of player we need but it sounds like we're struggling to pay L1 wages so I'd expect us to go with what we had last season. And to be fair to Dean Hoyle he found the money for Robins to sign 7 strikers last season so maybe Robins and his new coaching staff can start coaching the ones already here to put the ball in the back of the net.

We have been after Wood for a long time but personally I would be more "Buzzing" if we signed Keane.
A decent CB is what we need and with Vaughan, Wells and a 10 goal back up in Ward I would say up front isn't the main priority

I'm not even going to respond on the utter bollocks about struggling to pay League One wages, but if we are going to break the bank, it makes no sense to me being a CF when we have Wells and Vaughan. Would rather see it spent elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, would be great to see Woods here.

Thats basically it. Even with your usual 'have a moan at the club whenever possible' tone, its true that the clubs with more money will indeed be able to spend more money. We wouldn't be the last club in the queue though, as we have more money than some.

Are Paterson, Ward & Bunn good enough to slot straight in? I do think a couple of leaders in defence & midfield are also a priority but I don't think our forward line is sorted by any means.

I realised that, but couldn't be arsed putting in a caveat It is however why I said it would be great having him, you'd expect he'd partner either well. I just think we wouldn't want our potential top three players/earners all being strikers, so one of which would likely not be on the pitch at any one time. For me, another striker will likely be cover, but any player for another position s/be expected to go into the first eleven.

End of last season we where promised that experienced championship players would be brought in to the club! Here we are just over two weeks until the start of the new season, and we have a back up goalkeeper and Peltier. It looks to me Robins is using the excuse of fringe players looking like stepping up to the plate after a few pre season wins against teams of far lower standard than what we will face in the championship to cover our failings in the transfer market. Hope I am proved wrong but if not,a season of struggle will follow with what in real terms is a weaker squad than last season. Forget all this togetherness crap, we need that quality, but seem like we are not willing to pay for it!

Not really Mark Robins' fault when the players he wants are going elsewhere because they can pay them more.

Suppose its like anything else- you start off chasing ambitious targets and get knocked back until you land the best you can. Suspect that's whats happening just now and Town certainly won't be alone in that. I also think its possible we have under-estimated the extent that a lot of clubs are seemingly ignoring FFP. If i was Clibbens and DH id be asking for clarification off the FL of what the punishments are and whether they will actually be carried out.
If we played the season with the squad as it is now ( which we won't as I think we'll strengthen with 2 or 3 before the end of August one way of another) , how we'd do would depend on how lucky we are with injuries. We looked a very steady mid-placed side last season until key injuries to vaughan and Lynch hit home, so to avoid the struggles of the latter part of last season, we'd have to be luckier than we were. Can't see it with vaughan though. Really think a 3rd 'proven' striker is a must. We won't be THAT lucky that he plays the bulk of the season. Or if we are, then sods law dictates Wells will pick up a bad knock.

Or if we are, then sods law dictates Wells will pick up a bad knock. Think the problem is with Vaughan to be honest, and maybe that we'd have hoped to have sold him for big money by now. He's supposed to be one of our top earners along with Wells... We've a top earner who could potentially struggle to play more than half of a season. But does it leave room in the budget for a 3rd top earning striker? Not sure we can afford to carry top earners on the bench (or in the treatment room) with the way that we're slashing the wage bill every season. I can see us wanting to hope that Vaughan stays lucky and that things click for the likes of Ward or Bunn, and I have a little faith in Wardy as a striker - he's got that instinct to get into the right areas.. A little composure and confidence and he might surprise a lot of people.

Peltier has played over 100 games in the championship and Murphy probably a similar amount as well as for his country so surely there exactly the type of player we were promised ? Might not be as exciting as some would like but they both undoubtly improve the squad. We need to get realistic, we are in no position to have Vaughan, wells and woods on the books and there's always the loan window to look at if we get injury problems as well as a couple of awesome looking talents coming thru the ranks

We have to be realistic about who the club can afford and not to expect Deano to keep forking out. This year we will see the benefit of buying young players, this is the best way of strengthening the squad. I'm expecting to see wells, holmes, smith, wallace, lolley, billing all kicking on, exciting times.
