I've contributed loads to the thread and I think it will be very interesting to see the result of the appeal. Since many are of the mind that the justice system (which I agree) on occasion can get it wrong - if the appeal finds him not guilty will that be the correct verdict then to those who firmly believe it in this case? Or will they be wrong on that occasion too? Given the amount of press attention will his appeal get an unbiased look? What if the new evidence makes it look even more likely that the conviction was safe and he's shot himself in the foot? Does overturning the conviction make Ched Evans an honourable man and a great example of how a footballer should live their life? No, of course it doesn't, it would just mean he is innocent, of THAT charge.

No it doesn't but he's not alone unfortunately.... god knows how many similar incidents occur every weekend with footballers and young lads in general. CE was stupid at least. The key thing for me is if a miscarriage of justice took place. Wether I believe he acted honourably is not the point. Looking at the amount of cases that get a right to review it would appear that the 'New Evidence' is considered enough to question the original conviction. But at the end of the day some people will believe he's guilty and others think he's innocent despite what actually happened.

If he's found not guilty then he isn't. That's consistent with my view on it as when the jury found him guilty he was. They see all the facts and make a call, not based on the half truths and opinions.
The one thing that can't be changed is the disgusting way the girl in question was treated and outed by "supporters" and the fact he apologised to everyone but not her. Two wrongs don't make a right.

The one thing that can't be changed is the disgusting way the girl in question was treated and outed by "supporters" and the fact he apologised to everyone but not her. Two wrongs don't make a right. The right to her anonymity is a legal issue, and whilst I don't condone the acts of those that "outed" her, if they believe she was lying and trying to cash in (and the suggestion is that they thought this, and I can see why) then I understand their actions. Wouldn't have done it myself, but understand it. As for him not apologising to her, if he maintains he is innocent, then it follows he is saying she consented, and therefore that she has maliciously pursued criminal proceedings that have effectively changed his life massively for the worse. Given all of this, why the hell would he apologise to her? He does not feel he has wronged her...he has apologised to everyone else, becuase he believes his actions have affected them, but not because he raped someone - he doesn't believe he did...

if being honourable and 'living your life to higher standards' became law, a large portion of the country would be in jail...
repeat, he is/was a footballer, high standards of morals are not required. If you are daft enough to hold him up to yourself or encourage your kids to see them as 'role models' you need a re think about what your 'standards' are on the morals front..
the press and media made them something they are definitely not and have not been for my lifetime near enough..there are exceptions but its not a 'caring and trusted profession' really is it?

Original Verdict quashed! Not just a retrial!
Gosh. Looks like he stands a good chance of being found not guilty!
Wow! He was on fire before all this! A golden career ruined?
