Seemed to have a run in with a section of the crowd after the game today......anybody else see /know why?! Felt a bit sorry for him as after a nervous start I thought he was one of our best players.

After the game someone was saying that there was racial abuse from the NSL at one point.
Didn't hear anything myself though, I wasn't near it

Peltier had a good game. He did just as good a job as Ive seen from Smith. Sadly people like to use him as a scapegoat. I sit behind the goal and if I'd heard any racism then the person shouting it would have got a smack.

Was in the NSL but didn't hear anything and I was one of the last to leave the stand after putting flags away. Never saw anything either.

We all have our opinions does not make mine correct.

Correct, neither does it mine, but I thought he had a good game today and showed why he went to Leicester, why Colin made him cptain at Leeds and why Forest were keen to keep hi. Who knows who'll be picked next time, but well played Pelts.

Solid defensively, probably better than Smith has been for a while, and needs to be given the benefit of the doubt with it being his first game on ages.
However, similar to Robinson he played it very very safe and we can't have the fullbacks offering nothing going forward with a 4:5:1 where the midfield three don't get forward either.

I thought he had a poor game/looked really nervous and was one of the main reasons we had a bad game. He was noticeably unwilling to venture further forward than the half way line and invited pressure down that side. He did good defensively 2nd half but if he'd pushed on in the first 30 we'd probably have been in control by half time. Not sure whether it was a tactical instruction by Powell or because he'd been out a long time, but his unwillingness in the first 45 mins to pass forward really set the tone for the afternoon. He received 5 or 6 balls from Hudson and continually ducked out of taking his man on or making s forward pass. It was very exasperating to watch. Smith has been much better attack wise this season, whenever Peltier has played we have been poor, whether that's a coincidence or not I don't know.

If you want to play 433 then you can't select players like Peltier. You need adventurous wing backs that will provide width and overlaps. Basic.

He offered us nothing down the right. I will always remember when they were down to 10 men and he had 30 yards to run into in their half. What did he do? Turn back and pass to Hudson. He's not good enough on the ball to play in the Championship imo.

Peltier is not as good as he thinks and never was , but when he plays he is our player so getting on his back is counter productive.

First game for a while and looked okay for me. Should take some confidence from this and push on.

Those saying he offered nothing going forward. Do you honestly wonder why this is when our midfield weren't given the license to get forward? What makes you think Powell instructed the full backs to do anything other than defend?
Thought Peltier did fine, as did the rest of our defence

It was Peltier the full back as I remember him. decent defensively cos of his quick turn of speed, but poor with the ball. Smith's 4 years younger ( i think) and can't see any obvious difference defensively, but offers much more going forward, so I prefer him myself.

I advocated Peltier's return in his natural position (Smith hasn't covered himself in glory this season). He look scared to me, frightened to go beyond the half way line. This could be either lack of confidence, having played so few games this season, or he may have been playing under orders to do nothing but defend. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, for now. Long term, he will have to offer more than he did yesterday.

Not really committing fully to anything, being a bit casual tracking back and picking up spare men etc, along with a total lack of adventure in passing. To give him the benefit of the doubt I wondered if he was just playing safe, avoiding making mistakes and avoiding standing out... For all the lack of positivity (and he was far from alone in that!)... He didn't really do anything wrong.. I suspect he's earned himself a place in the next starting line up, and that must be his aim having been out so long?

Jimmy Nic is spot on in that he played safe with mostly back passes and this helped to set the tone for the game. In saying that many others did not take responsibility to either create openings or pass the ball forward. Smith is better however when I look at the Helan and Palmer the full backs at Wendies they are far better than anything we have to offer. I honestly think we should seek out two new full backs and a centre half as our defence is fragile when teams come at us.

All a matter of opinion but for me Smith has gone backwards, defensively, since he first came in. He's been targeted by the opposition (along with Dixon)this season and looks out of his depth against most decent wingers. I'm not a massive Peltier fan but, again in my opinion, he's considerably better defensively than Smith. I actually think we need two new full-backs as well as another centre half, but I've no idea where the money's coming from to bring decent ones in !

if the answer was Peltier, Powell was clearly asking himself the wrong question. a 0-1 home defeat shows he was still on the wrong lines.
same team next week with a different right back, see if that elusive 0-0 draw can be won.

As I remember him he was always pretty good with the ball going forward - up to a point. He linked in well with the midfield, but not at overlapping into space - which Hunt was very good at and Smith is pretty good at. He used to have a great engine - up and down the touchline all day long - and quick to get back in to position. Much better body strength than Hunt or Smith. I think both Peltier and Smith are pretty decent to be honest. Maybe Smith's more natural position is as a centre half but I'm not sure he is strong enough or dominant enough for that - he would get bullied at this level. Whichever is playing their movement beyond the halfway line is entirely due to the instructions they are playing under.

I think Peltier was picked ahead of Smith because Birmingham had a very nippy young winger (forgotten his name) and because with Hudson and Gerrard playing together in the middle we needed more pace on the cover than Smith offers.
Peltier did very well against the kid - I don't remember him really getting beat. Contrast that with Smith at Derby when he really struggled to cope with their speedy Liverpool loanee winger and we were one down in five minutes as a result.
The downside is that Peltier is less good than Smith going forward, and when he went forward in support there wasn't much conviction to it. But you could have said that about anyone on Saturday.
Overall I thought he defended well and certainly was one of our better players.
If anyone abused the lad, they are the disgrace, not him. We should be supporting our players, particularly if they have been out of the team for a long time, come in and done reasonably well.

Nothing against Pelts but Tommy Smith is a better defender & better going forward aswell. Strange decision to make him a scapegoat for the Norwich debacle when he's generally been one of our most consistent performers this season? Atleased he could have got up & supported Scanz on Saturday instead of leaving him isolated & double marked all game! I don't understand the thinking behind the decision at all?
