But there must be a reason why despite knowing we needed another forward when Holts loan was up,even before JV's latest injury, we still haven't got one (and now need 2) 3 weeks into the window. ALF would've been good to get but still not really the style of striker we're short of. If we aren't willing to pay the going rate for championship strikers at least say so then as fans we can prepare ourselves for life in the 3rd division again sooner rather than later

It's fair to say that Hanson will read this message board, since he's a Town fan. If so, I hope he takes no notice of some of the ridiculous, petulant comments (season ticket in the bin!?).
Nobody knows how ANY transfer will turn out, whether it's ALF, Hanson or even bloody Glenn Murray. One thing you can be sure of if this lad signs for town is that he would fight for his club for every moment he's on the pitch. I'd welcome him here.

As long as we stay up I'm not bothered. Is this guy really going to be an improvement on Stead? Considering Stead has been keeping him out of games at Bradford hasn't he? The luck we've had this season, staying up will be a feat to celebrate for me. Not saying we won't stay up or can't stay up, we've had much go against us, injuries, refs, freak late goals. I think the comparison with stead is irrelevant, totally different types of striker. It does seem wrong that we'd be bringing in a player deemed not worth a start in the league below but you can't under estimate the effect of a decent target man. I remember bringing Allison in who was considered a bit if a donkey at the time and he was a revelation. Would be worth a punt as long as he was cheap imo. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

Long way off preparing for life in the 3rd division. Or were you being 'facetious'?

I don't understand why people are already writing him off when we haven't even signed the guy yet. If he did sign give the guy a chance, Him and Wells at Bradford did superb together. Every time I've seen him play he's been excellent and with him and Wells upfront it might get Wells scoring a few more because they already know how each other play! Personally I think he would be a brilliant signing but we will have to wait and see.

Hanson - not good enough, terrible etc. Hudson- best defender we've got. the only times ive seen hanson play have been in their cup run a couple of years ago against prem division defenders and I suspect that goes for practically everyone else too. Don't understand how he can be judged as not good enough from that because he was excellent in those games. Ok, Steads keeping him out just now but that might depend on what sort of striker they need. If they don't have a Nakki wells to run off him then maybe he isn't as effective- point is we do! Or maybe hes not been focussed enough lately with these rumours about him coming here? I wouldn't expect him to be a world beater. Id expect him to do what Holt did really. Put himself about, Give us an outball, hold it up and link up with Wells/Scannell/Bunn. Might not have the quality Holt had, but neither did Holt for a lot of the time he was here. Holt got 2 goals in 15 games too, so Id be surprised if Hanson couldn't better that. Hed just give us an option we don't currently have. A way of changing our game if we see fit. Of playing further up the pitch. Writing off ANY signing is frankly absurd , until hes had a chance to do the job the manager brought him in to do. If DATM existed in 1993 the same people slagging off this potential signing now would have been going crazy when we signed a lower division clogger called Jepson off exeter city!!

It`s obvious that Jon Stead has "peaked". Hanson could improve but there is no guarantee that he would always be picked before the kick off. Useful to have on the bench.

You must have recognised that we have some of the finest judges of footballing talent posting here? We are blessed to have such a rich vein of opinion and knowledge. For me not seen Hanson enough to comment, on the basis we need someone to hold the ball and bring others into play us being interested in such a type of player makes sense.

Hanson is a beast in the air, that is a decent asset to have in both boxes at any level of football. He would complement a striker like Wells, its called a strike partnership. Would take him as a 3/4 choice striker who will get games due to Vaughans injury record. Doubt he would demand massive wages either.

Is this on a "pay per goal" basis like all our signings made from Bradford?! Aye, Jon Stead has made up a fortune since he went there

What's made you decide he's crap? My guess its because he wouldn't be costing millions of pounds that we can't afford, so is therefore a sign of our lack of ambition. If Dean Hoyle was serious about taking this club upwards hed be on the phone to Chelsea to see if Costa is available. lol if dean was serious he would be on the phone to get you a shrink!. like your ambition though

Hanson is obviously great in the air, but what is he like for holding the ball up? He'll be fine for set pieces and attacking crosses in the air (although I think we've only really got Robinson at the minute that will be able to swing in good high crosses for him to attack) but will he be able to take in a ball that Lynch threads through midfield, control it on the deck and hold off his man while laying it off to a midfield runner? That's what we need more than someone to flick high balls on, we need a big ox to bully defenders and take the hits but that can play on the deck - like Chris Martin does for Derby. He doesn't need to be able to do anything spectacular, just be able to control all manner of balls coming into him (chest, waist, thigh height and on the deck) and be able to lay it off.
I'm not sure Hanson fits that mould but I'd be willing to give him a chance.

These 2 hours feels like a day. I'm marooned here in Fuerteventura - just about to venture out for the day. If we hven't announced a signing by the time I get back in 6 hours, I'm gonna ...... I don't know ? have to drink 3 bottles of vino tonight instead of the usual 2 .......

Sorry to leave you in the lurch or appear a bullshitter. Bradford have put the brakes on and stalled on the fee. Seems they're using the fact that we only have one fit striker against us. Will update later.

Christ, I can't even believe anyone would think this is a good signing. The guy is a lower league player at best, he'd get nothing out of Championship defences. I wouldn't even compare him to Grant Holt as Grant Holt is a good player. Expensive mistake if this proves to be true.

He's a lower league player because that is the only level he's played at. He managed to get plenty out of Premier League defences a couple of seasons ago on Bradford's cup run and has pretty decent goal scoring record. Also, Grant Holt wasn't a particularly good player for us the last 6 weeks or so he was here. He may very well not be able to make the step up, but there's no way anyone can possibly know that until he's had the chance.
