Reports in a few papers linking him with a move to Southampton as Ronald Koeman wants to strengthen his backroom staff. Thoughts?

Why would he leave a club like Huddersfield Town...or is this the first sign of changes at the top/ownership ??

What does he do that someone else couldn't do just as well?
On the scouting side, does he scout himself or does he manage a team of scouts? Either way, we've got some right and some wrong while he's been here. Haven't seen an improvement on that side of things compared with the couple of years before he arrived
Never really known exactly what it is he does

Korean will be in a bigger job next year in Spain or Germany. They aren't going to want him in those countries you wouldn't have thought. So he would be in a job and out of one in 6 months.

If Southampton think that Ross Wilson is better at a task they need than their current incumbent, that's highly impressive given the success they've had in recent recruitment, both at first team and (albeit now we see the fruits of a few years ago) youth level, too.

Despite the stick he gets, this guy has been instrumental in some big signings for us. Think we'd have been lucky to bring in Robinson and Coady without him..

Sorry Sio but the magic word you've used there is 'think' - money talks, not Ross Wilson. This new breed of footy 'power executive' is a self fulfilling fantasy where his fellow 'executives' at other clubs all talk to each other and make deals and keep themselves in jobs. If Town have scouts - they'll find players - if those players are offered good money - they will come. All these shiny suits mincing about inventing jobs - not essential.

When you don't have money to buy proven successful players you have to scout them and this is why Ross Wilson is sought after, those who don't think he's made a huge difference to us just don't realise how t'modern game works. If they weren't essential then a top PL club wouldn't want him from lil ole Huddersfield. I don't see them enquiring about any of our playing staff - does that mean they are less essential than the shiny suits hmmmmm

Well looks like anyone can do this lark. Maybe no-one is better qualified than anyone else to do a specific job. Anyway, I'm off to do some keyhole surgery in Belgium after I've piloted a Jet2.com flight to Bruges, assuming I don't get called to put out a fire.

An analyst could have any training session, whether it’s under-8s right the way through to the first team. All that data is coded and analysed and it can be used for any age group of players, merged with match analysis, used as a teaching tool. So when our scouts are out doing opposition reports all that’s fed in automatically.
“In terms of recruitment, we have feeds from most of the good leagues around the world. We have analysts who chop them up and code them. When we’re looking at players we have instant access to video material or statistical analysis. It enables us to compare potential recruits with the profiles of our own players. That’s one way we can compare potential recruits with our own academy players and say – you know what, this kid meets the profile anyway. That helps all of our decision-making.
“We’ve got a fantastic group of eyes-on scouts and fantastic analysts – so the idea is that they challenge each other all the time. So when a scout says - this is the best striker in Croatia, the analysts have all the data to challenge it."

If this is what we do, it'd be interesting to see which signings we haven't made because of this 'data' and how that/those players are now doing

Maybe he'll find the striker he's been looking for the last 9 months on his way down.
And those signings from Holland who must have got lost on the ferry
However, seems to be liked within Town.

Don't forget he was made a board member last year.
I doubt it'll be position he'll leave easily.

I hope we can keep Wilson, Dean Hoyle thinks he's indispensable!

Ross Wilson rated very highly within football, has many good relationships with sports management personnel ie agents. Put a good network together at Town especially Scandanavia.

Powell said a few weeks ago that Ross had created a very good system and network of scouts.
If we don't need him, then how come nobody on here had put forward David Edgar as a possible and realistic target?
