Nahki carries a lot of responsibility aka over-zealous blame up front. We need a big man, scare-them-shitless player up front that Nahki can lean on now and again and give us options. Presume Hughes, Patterson, Steer not Husband on shopping list already but would like to see Elliot Ward back! Add to this if DH has some cash left, some foreign players familiar with our style of play will give us a massive springboard to start next season. UTT

We play one upfront and defo don't need a big man with the style Wagner plays!

Huws we might want but won't afford, Paterson seems down to wages, steer may depend on villas league status. Husband who knows and ward signed for Blackburn in Jan on a 2 or 3 yr deal.

We play one upfront and defo don't need a big man with the style Wagner plays! You are right to a degree but a 4-2-3-1 system allows for a central playmaker (to advance higher upfield) sat behind Nahki who can give him more assistance without necessarily changing the formation.

Oops hadn't realised Ward had gone to Blackburn. Listening to Stuart Webber before Ipswich game lead me to think Patterson may be do-able. Hughes may be that big value signing DH will go for in his summer revamp of squad.....all if's, maybes and possibles but I guess we're all guessing??!!

I think Paterson is very much do able but not quite there just yet hence why it didn't pan out in Jan. Really hope he does tho. I like huws but for the money they would want for him can't help it could be better spent throughout the squad but if it can be done at the right price I wouldn't be against a young improving international joining. Exciting summer coming up anyway.

It's been said many a time but Wigan paid £2.5m-3m for Huws and he's supposed to be on something like £20k-25k per week. Can't see any way at all he'll be here permanently.
What I could see is Wigan having trouble getting anyone to take him on at a similar wage (he's good, but even in the mental modern market he's not that good) and him ending up back here for another year.

Wigan probably paid (lower end) £2-3 million with appearance money etc part of his top end value. Judging by Wigans downfall it's close to £2 and my thinking is if the right offer comes in £1.5m+ they'll talk. Town are in front seat depending on how DH wants to spread his cash on team and what players DW has in mind. All obvious guesswork but I like him as many of us do and he would be a great fit for next season.

I've not seen anything that suggests he is worth the figures quoted apart from a brief spell under Powell where he scored a few. The only reason to spend decent money on him is that he is the sort of player who may be worth a lot more in a couple of years but with his injury record that would be a risk.

And you're forgetting the wages. No way will we pay someone like Huws £20k+ per week. Probably not even if he came for free.

He's a good player Huws and I think his best form was actually a couple of games into Wagner's reign, as much as I realise that sounds a bit daft.
However, I agree now, I can't see us breaking the bank for him with the emergence of Billing.

Billing can play the Huws role and that will save us millions that could probably on at least two quality players. It won't happen. It's also likely that Wigan will be back in this league next season anyway so he might just go back there if he hasn't completely burned his bridges.

Billing > Huws - don't need him. Spend the money on a LB and a CB - Chilwell season loan will do, then sign him permanently once promoted

Their fans would go ballistic, as would ours under the same circumstances!

Something very depressing about being on page 156 of the summer transfer thread already. Can we start a new one for this summer, if only for my sanity? PS. If starting a new thread doesn't flush out Pipes, then nothing will.

Even if we were desperate to sign Huws we'd be crazy to pay the kind of fee and wages being bandied about for a player who spends so much time unavailable due to injury. Let's just stick to developing Dempsey and Billing who will both turn out to be a couple of real gems that we'll make some good money on.

Personally I wouldn't play Huws when he gets back fit, would play billing and develop him and make him a better player. Wouldn't sign Huws either

For me Huws would be a great addition to the team, but only if we can get him much cheaper than reported. If its not going to happen it would be better for the likes of Billing, Dempsey, Holmes & Booty to get more game time than to play him.
