Afternoon All,
After a successful first season in the North Stand, the NSL has now completed one of its main tasks and secured the South Stand for Town fans as of next season. This was always the long term aim of the group and it has come about far quicker than any of us imagined. The NSL has received some great support from Town fans over the past season, but it hasn't been without question, or criticism too.
Its always been an inclusive 'group' which is open to anyone and everyone and we'd like to carry that on the next season and hopefully progress and improve with what we have been doing already, and build numbers to really create a decent atmosphere next season at home games. With that in mind, its time for a bit of market research so we know what everyone wants from the South Stand.
So, here's your chance to have your say. What did we do well? What could we have done better with? What did you enjoy, what DIDN'T you enjoy? What would you like us aim for next season? What route should the South Stand fans go down? Shall we even have a group or should we disbanded/start again with a new name?! Flags, Banners, Displays, songs etc etc. Anything you can think of.
The more feedback the better for us. We (and I'm sure many others) want the home game experience (I hate that term) to be the best it can be, so tell us what you want to see/hear. Also, if you want to get more involved in anyway then by all means get in touch with us as the more we have on board the easier things are to sort out.
We're all pretty thick skinned, so lets have it!
Cheers

I thought it went well this season. Well organised and some great flags and banners (particularly love the Castle Hill Victoria Town one). My only gripe is all the shite generic songs that were being sung (Everywhere we go, when i was young etc), so I'd like to see those starting the songs to concentrate on our own unique songs that no-one else can sing. But overall I've been very impressed and have renewed in the South Stand after being in the NSL this/last season.

I wouldn't mind seeing town attacking that end in the second half.
Probably been discussed on hear before, but why do town always attack the south stand first half and the north stand in the second?

Could be to prevent defending with a low sun in their eyes in the second half? Not that this applies a great deal with our weather.

Well that makes sense but we do it all the time like you said even night games. Is there a pre match agreement that we'll let the away team attack their fans second half? The only time that springs to mind (of course there will be others just none are coming to me) we scored a late goal in front of the south stand was when we relegated QPR years back.

Surely it's made sense up until this year to shoot towards our only end in the second half? It's typical for teams to attack their main end in the second. We'll obviously be hoping they switch that this season so they can attack towards the SS in 2nd..

It's decent, but isn't particularly unique to Town at all. Sorry ben1987. That said, it is a good song for getting everyone going when it's a bit quiet.

Drum - not for me. Leave that to the Kilner. Thought the megaphone was awesome! ;-) - just needs a bigger and louder one!

Great first season, looking forward to sitting in the south stand next year No more 'since i was young' though for me, the club has numerous of their own unique chants that should be embraced and utlised more and to greater effect. Singing that is falling in line with a generic football chant probably sung by pushing 20 clubs now, time to move on and bring back some of the old but gold.

I'd like it if we have a massive flag that passes over all the fans, something to really catch the eye.

some of them ticker tape machines they had in Argentina in the world cup...so long as I don't have to hoover it all up after...
also, just a thought..when Town fans are in that end of the south stand will the final block in the Kilner be opened up ? That has never been used as far as I can recall...but might get a bit more noise if it is now opened ...for non SC holder fans...or whoever...
oh, and will they clean all the algae from the perspex screens , ever....

I enjoyed my first season in the north stand I don't think it could have gone any better. I think our first season in the South Stand will be even better the atmosphere will be great and we will make the JSS rock.

I don't care what is sung really as it's better than silence. I think you did a great job this season.

Good feedback so far, thanks everyone.
I agree re: the songs. I'd love to get some of the old songs going but not enough folk know the words. Something for us to work on over the summer maybe getting something out there which has the words/tunes on so people can learn them easier.

One of the main appeals initially for me in the NSL was the fact that there originally was no drummer, and then after a while a drummer came in and it just became a (slightly) toned down version of the kilner with someone banging a drum ever 10 seconds whilst chanting to some generic 'ultra' tune that every other club in the country does. I much prefer it when we sing our own songs, or at least traditional football songs as apposed to'since I was you' 'wooooooaaaahhh' clap or the like. Ideally I'd like an atmosphere akin to that of Fulham away earlier in the season - admittedly it's unlikely to be that loud, at least for a while.
That said I thought everyone in the NSL did a tremendous job this season, even in difficult circumstances at times. Think numbers in the SS should be your priority to start off with, but keep providing the colour etc. as well. UTT

I thought the L stood for Loyal? As you've always known Martin, it's not where you are but who you are with that counts

Think numbers in the SS should be your priority to start off with, but keep providing the colour etc. as well. UTT It's a difficult balance. When we didn't have the drum in the NSL at the start we found it very difficult to create and spread the atmosphere. The current drummer is young and still learning, hopefully he will learn the art of drumming as time goes on. In terms of the songs, it's very difficult to get this right because not everyone likes every song. I stand at the front and face the crowd to get songs going, I am very selective when I do it and try not to be too repetitive. We always try and mix it up, so it isn't manufactured. It's a fine balance and something which is difficult to please everyone. I am always open to suggestions, I will be stood at the front of the south stand and getting songs going like I did in the NSL but it won't please everyone. The longer the south stand is populated by town fans the more old school it will be. The younger generation are now growing up watching town in a new environment and learning that we don't just sing when we win.

Good feedback so far. I understand some of us want different things, a lot of people will want a 'traditional' type atmosphere, however a few of the lads in the middle want a more energetic or 'ultra' style support. I know some of us obviously aren't interested in the drums, flags, megaphones etc. but would be a shame to loose that. I think baring Palace and Middlesbrough we've been unique from other fans and got our name out there.
Feel free to disagree with me on this as its only an idea, but I think naturally the more traditional style singers will go to the back of the SS, whereas those who want the ultra style support will gravitate to form a core at the front. This hasn't been possible in the NSL because the stand ain't very deep. Surely this is win, win. Those who don't like the drums and flags don't have to be right next to them, and there will be less complaints about flag waving etc. whilst still being the same group. However imo, we need to be careful as we don't want to create a divide in the fans as we're still united as a whole group or family and need to work together to get the atmosphere we want.

No more since I was young or everywhere we goooooooo.
More ticker tape and balloons.
Same stewards as in the North Stand, hopefully our supporters in the South Stand won't become obsessed with the away fans and the liberal friendly stewarding can continue.

This would need Tog's help. I like it when the goal announcer says: And the Town goal scorer is James (crowd shout Vaughan) ... Repeat.

I think the NSL have been superb this year, I have enjoyed every minute of it. I just feel that it had too many kids in it but that was going to happen anyway. I am going to enjoy myself in South Stand next year and hopefully fans come together and not complain about flags and drum and just try get behind the team.
