Who puts a bet on what will happen during the following season before the end of May?! As the transfer window shuts after the opening few games, it's difficult to make a calculated prediction in August, let alone in bloody May!

That will change on a weekly basis as we near the start of the season. I am actually excited about our chances next season. I believe we are a few astute signings away from being a top 10 side. Our chairman ain't an idiot and our manager ain't bad either.
I hope our fans afford some patience this pre season

Difficult to make any meaningful predictions at this stage. The comings & goings in the transfer market over the next few months will have a big impact, but until anybody has been bought or sold, loaned in or out it's pretty meaningless.
I can kind of get why we're one of the favourites for the drop. Not a fashionable club, no parachute payments to spend big and a bottom half finish every year since we came up - but it's also CP's first full season. His first full season at his last job went rather well if I recall...
Honestly, I think the aim is still mid-table, but it's achievable.

Its only natural, even at this early stage, to put Town in with the dead men. I'm pretty confident we won't be going down though.

Preston 20/1 but Town 40/1 to win the league. Work that one out
That Preston squad is awful for this level, they'll have to make some very good signings to stay up

If we have no major transfer activity (which I doubt we will), it sounds about right to me.
You can't stay in this division on a shoestring.

I'm pretty sure we were down as relegation contenders by the bookies last season aswell, with Wigan & Fulham amongst promotion favourites..
The championship is one of the most unpredictable leagues in Europe, which gives it worldwide appeal, SSN said the playoff final was being aired in 150 countries!

The bookies are looking at a daft high level and you are looking at it from an equally daft insular level. How many other teams are actually going to be forking out much more than us this year? How many other teams are going to have to start shedding some high earners, which we don't have to do? How many other teams are going to be losing key loans? How many other teams have aging squads, whereas we only have Hudson in this category? What justifies Preston being seen twice as likely to finish top? Personally think it's great!!!

Quite odd, I think this is the "weakest" Championship season Town will have been a part of so far. I don't see any of the relegated teams doing well even though they're favourites to go up, and the promoted teams have been way overestimated by looks of things. Quite optimistic and think Town will finish quite high up, which will apparently upset the odds quite a bit.

How about forming a syndicate? If we all put £10 in we might raise a large enough amount to get the bookmakers to make us favourites to get promotion once such a large bet has been placed at 40-1

It's to early to tell on all of those yet. As I said (IF) we have no major transfer activity. I don't think that a couple of average signings will be enough. I reckon we need another striker capable of being first choice, another CB and a LB to be comfortable. I'd be quite happy to start the season with the squad we ended it with plus a CB, but Miller and James were only loans. These 2 need replacing with equal quality.

Stavros..
the humongous profits made by betting companies and the massive amount of people with a 'gambling problem' or those that don't have a problem but are steadily losing everything including their dignity , would sensibly lead one to believe a great deal of irresponsible betting is taking place..
nobody has a problem with these addictions until it becomes a problem...they will find a way soon of having to bet to put a bet on...

If we have no major transfer activity (which I doubt we will), it sounds about right to me. You can't stay in this division on a shoestring. You are so right......Burnley couldn't stay in this division on a "shoestring" in 2013/14, so they had to get promoted to the PL with 93 points (only average championship wages and just £450k spent on players after selling top scorer Charlie Austin for £4m ONE day before the start of the new season.
I wouldn't worry too much about being 4th favourites for the drop.....going into the promotion season we were 6th favourites for the drop despite finishing a healthy 11th on 61 points at the end of the 2012/13 season and the odds were made when we STILL had Austin on the books.
When we were promoted via the play/offs in 2008/2009, we were about 16th favourites for promotion - we finished 5th.
After PL relegation in 2009/10, the bookies had us SECOND favourites to win the title behind moneybags QPR. But we had Brian Laws as manager and finished a fairly pathetic 8th despite the parachute money.
Players and money are important, but the most important ingredient is the manager. We have a good one (at the moment) so have you....Powell got Charlton 9th in 2012/2013.
I think it is ridiculous that Skybet yesterday had Burnley 9/1 joint favourites with Hull to win the title ahead of Derby 10/1......For a start we will lose Ings, almost certainly Trippier while Barnes will miss nearly all next season and Marney - our most important midfielder - won't be back until maybe December/January....with this in mind, we could struggle to finish mid-table.
The only consolation is that Dyche has been promised £6 million (unspent in the last January window) and any profit made from sales (Ings...a likely £5 million and Trippier £3.5 million buy-out clause). So, if we do have nearly £15 million for new players, a top-six place should be a realistic target.
