Excited about this. Not given a chance by current forest regime. A couple of seasons ago he played just behind the striker and scored 2 against us. I'm saying he'll be playing as an attacking midfielder. Im with you on this one mate-I remember his performance that night+also his performance against an admittedly weak west ham side in the cup.No secret Dean Hoyle and Ross Wilson were gutted to miss out on him when he left Walsall.

Is this the lad that was at Walsall a couple of year ago? And picked forest over us?

Unless the thinking now that Butterfield has gone is to move to using 2 wingers. Even so, this one is pretty baffling. Scannell, Bunn, Lolley, Carayol, Paterson.... not to mention Jake Charles having his pathway blocked (Have we abandoned pathways now?) for 2 first team spaces. Option to buy at the end of the season? OK that makes a little bit more sense than loaning a player in a position we don't need but at the end of the season we'll have Hiwula back. Unless we get shut of another winger or 2 I can't see the sense in this at all. Meanwhile we've sold 3 of our best players & look like we're saying goodbye to another (albeit injury prone) in Vaughan. Replacing them with a winger, the one area where we are pretty strong already is a bit of a headscratcher. Im dreaming about all this, in a min Im going to wake up and instead of signing a 5th winger, we will have actually signed 4 players from any other position, other than wing One thing to note - if a player is referred to as 'a winger' : it usually means he's got pace, and can (poss) actually beat an opponent, and is 'attack-minded'. 3 attributes I quite value in a player!! And it doesn't mean he can ONLY play on the wing! The players you list above - personally I'd try to play them ALL!! In the SAME team! (At least we'd be f**kin entertained)

We already had the personnel at the club to play 2 wingers, so if we were wanting to play that way we could have done. We have needed strengthening in nearly every other area but in my opinion we haven't improved the squad, we've weakened it. Selling Smithies, Coady and Butterfield in one window was too much, especially when we haven't gone out of our way to replace them permanently. I fully understand we have to sell players but selling 3 of our better ones and not replacing them is worrying. Possibly, although that would have meant either dropping Butterfield or playing with less defensive cover in midfield. Coddtripper makes a good point though as well. Maybe he's been brought in with a view to playing attacking midfield rather than wing?

Bunn/lolley, maybe Patterson has something that the management can see might work there better? you only need a big striker if you are ;; a; going to hit it high and long b. cross it into the box with some height as much as possibly can.. how many goals do we concede to crosses lower than head height??? its a fair few..

Personally I wouldn't be averse to playing one up front with this set of players so long as we actually play like a team with the ball on the floor as opposed to the ball being lumped upfield more often than in a rugby union game (and preferably not being passed along the back line without a clue what to do with it!).
GK: Murphy LB: Davidson CB: Lynch CB: Hudson RB: Smith DM: Hogg DM: Huws RW: Scannell AM: Paterson LW: Carayol CF: Wells
Then we can have Miller on the bench to provide the option of route one rather than it being Plan A, B, C and all the way down to Z. >>;

Maybe it's a tactical signing. Forest may be a relegation rival this season so us signing Paterson is weakening their team. They won't be able to play him because we have him.

VERY attacking. I hope this is the idea. Lolley, bunn, Miller to come off the bench too. It even looks more balanced and the left side looks dangerous... Could it be that we have a team of good players in each position and not just square pegs and a few good ones? ... Could it be the club actually know what they are doing???

He has followed Carayol and Wells on Twitter yesterday but weirdly he also followed Ross Wilson? Do you reckon Ross is still helping us in his spare time

Do you reckon Ross is still helping us in his spare time Who knows how many of this seasons recruits are down to Ross Wilson doing the spadework initially? Don't forget he was here until the summer. Incidentaly for those that keep saying we've signed a winger read this. LINK

Two wingers all day for me. It might have been League 1 at the time but fond memories of Pilky and Roberts tearing up the full backs, swapping wings and banging a few in as well.

He isn't a pure winger at all, but our signings still don't add-up, as much as I expect Huws will be the 'Butterfield replacement'. From the couple of times I've seen him Huws is much more in the Coady mould than the Butterfield one, I would've thought he'll be deeper alongside Hogg or Whitehead.

"The loan is scheduled to run until 31 May 2015 with no call back available, as part of the deal Huddersfield Town have an option to buy the attacking midfielder."
Doesn't his contract with them end at the end of the season? Sounds like this is a trial and we'll basically have first refusal on signing him.

67 Players Over 24
67.1 A Player aged 24 years or over as at 30 June is entitled (subject to Regulation 41) to sign for any Club of his choice without restriction on the expiry of his contract on or after that date without payment of any Compensation Fee.
67.2 A Player who is under 24 years as at 30 June will have to wait until the following 30 June before he is entitled to the benefit of Regulation 67.1.
67.3 An Over 24 Player who has refused an offer of re-engagement which, in the opinion of the Board is not less favourable than the Player's current contractual terms, shall not be entitled to any severance or other payment in respect of the expiry of his contract or for any period after the expiry of his contract.
67.4 This Regulation 67 applies notwithstanding any other provisions in these Regulations and if there is any conflict, Regulation 67 shall prevail
not a free agent until 30 June apparently....or am I reading it incorrectly?
