Bye bye Bradley Park Golf Club, soon to become an estate if the council get their way Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards Is that for real ?? Absolute disgrace if true. Not down to the council, this government is forcing house building under threat of penalties. Who do you think will pay? Take note of this particular passage in this link. New powers to intervene and force councils to approve local plans setting house building targets are seen by the Government as a crucial factor in addressing the housing shortage. Although all councils are supposed to come forward with local housing plans many have failed to do so because of the controversy surrounding development in sensitive areas.LINK

Absolute disgrace if true. aye can't see the point in creating new jobs, homes ect,if its going to upset some people smacking a little ball with an iron stick Whilst the sentiment of your post is spot on I think the choice of land is bizarre, Bradley Park Golf Club is nestled between the noisy M62 and the Quarry. it is Huddersfield`s only public golf course to pay and play, whereas the Fixby Golf course just up the road, has far more acreage, in a much quieter and better residential area and is a PRIVATE members club. In which area do you think people would prefer their 2,000 homes to be built

What a difference a year makes.
Major changes are in the pipeline for Bradley Park Golf Club.
After almost 37 years of being owned and run by Kirklees Council, the club is to be handed over to a trust.
On April 1, Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) will assume control at Bradley Park with the aim of taking the club to the next level.
According to the council’s website: “KAL is the charitable trust which manages 11 major sports centres and swimming pools on behalf of Kirklees Council.
“KAL’s vision is to get more people more active, more often. We are dedicated to increasing the number of people taking part in sport, active recreation and wider physical activity through responding to the needs of the local community and providing a dynamic and excellent value-for-money service.”
The takeover comes at a time when rumours have been circulating about possible plans to develop the land, a valuable resource for Kirklees.
John Fletcher, Kirklees’ head of parks and open spaces, has met with Bradley Park professional Parnell Reilly every week for the best part of three decades to discuss the day-to-day running of the club.
He has categorically denied that there are any plans to build at Bradley Park.
In answer to an Examiner question about rumours of a consortium building a hotel or houses, he said: “There is no truth to these rumours at all. There will be no fundamental change to the complex and customers.
“There will be a greater access to all other leisure facilities within the KAL portfolio and KAL are strongly committed to maintaining the excellent facilities on offer at Bradley Park.
“The complex is as safe as any, given its profitability and reputation as the best municipal facility in the north of England.”
Mr Fletcher declined to give financial details about the golf club, as this is commercially sensitive.
KAL has a track record of experience in managing sporting facilities. It also has a large database of customers and it is thought that this will help to market Bradley Park. Its charitable status makes it eligible for certain tax breaks, and the extra money could be ploughed back into the golf club.
Mr Fletcher added: “KAL are responsible for all other council-owned leisure facilities in Kirklees and are best placed to take the complex forward, given their expertise and broad base of customers.
“There are no immediate plans for expansion, although a development plan covering the course and clubhouse will be drawn up within the first 24 months of operation.
“Parnell Reilly’s role remains the same as it is today. He is the golf professional and complex manager responsible for servicing the day-to-day requirements of customers of the facility.”
Parnell Reilly has welcomed the takeover at Bradley Park.
He took on the role as club professional 32 years ago and has dealt with John Fletcher for about the last 28 years.
Managed between the two of them, Bradley Park has achieved a reputation for being a good golf course and well run.
Parnell, who is 65 in March, has pledged his support for the new set-up.
He said: “KAL are committed to the current Bradley Park membership and I am committed to the future with KAL; Bradley Park has been 32 years of my life.
“I feel it is the way forward now. KAL has a massive database and they are used to running sports complexes.
“They know how to use all the marketing opportunities to drive things forward. I don’t have the resources to do that, we just have a small database of people who use the shop.
“I think we have a very, very good facility and they can take it to a whole new level, with some improvements in certain areas.”
The Bradley Park complex comprises the 18-hole and par-three golf courses, driving range, pro shop and clubhouse.
John Fletcher looks after the golf course and is responsible for its condition and day-to-day running. Parnell looks after everything else.
January 2014.

In which area do you think people would prefer their 2,000 homes to be built The state can't force the private owner of Fixby to sell their land for housing, though. They can compel councils to. The councils have been given strict instruction from Whitehall on the number of houses to be built. It's still mainly hot air though, as loads of the land sites on their new list are privately owned with unwilling sellers. I had to do an exception test to build on a brownfield site in Mirfield, which meant trawling through every one of the sites the council has "made available" and getting the owners to write to us saying they don't want to develop the land. Ridiculous waste of time.

Dewsbury Rams Rugby Club have just sold off some land near their stadium to build around 250 houses. They've got a right deal out of it. They're getting a brand new training facility with 3g pitch i think, a 5 a side complex and a few million cash

Chris Powell previews Saturday's trip to Wolves Has he mentioned how big they are? Not as big as they were last season? They have added Afobe and Coady - but Dicho and Sakho were big for them last season (literally). Dicho tore us apart for 15 minutes at their place last season before we got on top of them.
