And another reply to this erroneous comment. There were 3 posters on here who stuck their necks on the line for the young uns. Frankiesleftpeg, Chumlee and myself. The rest of you, to a man, were giving it the 'if Powell's not playing them they're not good enough' line. Since them we've seen the likes of Lolley, Billing, Holmes and Dempsey all impress greatly when given their chance. The problem wasn't the players, it was the manager. So I hope you excuse me in wanting you to stick comments like that where the sun doesn't shine. 3 posters put their neck on the line. Not only are you flat out wrong but where the fuck do you get the arrogance to even go there? Always the same in life, the toe the line brigade trying to take the credit for the real visionaries and risk takers. most posters have been saying the young uns deserve a chance myself included. maybe a bit of self promotionalism on your part i think. A bit? Quite an understatement

Or maybe you lot should have spoke up a bit more when the fires were raging. Easy to sit there doing fuck all while others take the flak and come back wise after the fact. That's how generals get decorated.

Not sure I see Dempsey as an alternative to either Chilwell or Huws. He's more of an option to Paterson... one being slightly more defensive, the other more attacking. However, in this new system I think we are mostly best off going at sides and therefore Paterson would get the nod presently. Both will have a big future with us I hope. He seems a well rounded player, able to adequately cover a number of roles, but I'm not sure he quite has the guile for the hole. Not sure there is a 'hole' in this system with Scannell and Lolley tucking in so much and Chilwell and Smith providing the width. More like a forward midfielder, and I do think Dempsey enjoys being in the thick of it.

Holmes has had a couple of Ok sub cameos .. come back when he has played 50 full championship games to a high ( even highish) standard.. I've bigged him up but he still has it all to prove.. I could say pretty much the same about lolley .. I love exciting players and he has that special something in his locker .. but will he make it as a championship pro ? No one can say for certainty .. he was no way " all that " yesterday .. as a town fan I hope they both succeed.. we all do .. but let's see .. if you then want to come back and proclaim yourself king of the scouts then so be it .. nothing I've seen has me screaming "Powell was wrong " .. as for Dempsey.. I like him .. I'd have played him more .. but Powell didn't .. so does that make Powell useless ? Well actually Powell signed him ( if you are crediting him with Davidson you have to do the same with Dempsey ) .. and we are all going bonkers for Wagner.. champion of the youth.. but he didn't pick him yesterday either .. the kid will make it in my opinion .. but I certainly ain't claiming he has made it already after less than 8 games , full and sub, in the championship.

With all repsect, that seems a bit of a scraping the bottom of the barrel post but I'll address it. And in Captain colour too. :) 'Youngsters have hardly been a big part of Wagner's selection so far' Nobody was asking to see all the senior players sacked off and the U21s side put straight into their place. I can't believe that needs to be said. It's about integrating the talent you have at your disposal. A proper sub appearence here and there as opposed to 4 minutes under Powell. A full appearence here and there when merited. Are you seriously trying to argue that Holmes would have featured under Powell? That Dempsey would start 2 games in a row? That Lolley would start a game when we're not safe in the league? Come on. 'What evidence were you guys using to decide that they were good enough?'Do you not check out the U21s and development threads Walt? Myself and others post up videos there every week. 'they've pretty much been used to fill in for injuries/suspensions.'That's how you get your chance sometimes. Is Davidson injured or just shite? The fact is, no matter what way some may twist it, these lads are playing, they are taking their chances in the new system and they are impressing. Not just impressing as youngsters, they are impressing as proper fkn footballers. Billing, excellent until he got injured. Lolley, excellent yesterday. Dempsey, 2 great games in a row, Town's best player v Leeds. Holmes coming on and creating chances, he's a clever player that lad. When you've got a player who can weight a difficult pass you know you've got something to work with there. Absolutely, give it time Walt, but come on these lads were rotting away under Powell and the concensus on here was if they aren't getting picked by Powell they can't be good enough. I'm not concerned whether they set the world on fire out on loan, new club, different system, change of digs, different teammates, different manager's philosophies, worse quality pitches, just a completely different situation Not sure why. I still don't know how you guys knew they were good enough. I watch the U21 videos, no doubt they're doing well. The level is so far off Championship standard, I don't know how it can be compared. I'm concerned that they don't do well in loan spells - I realise not all loan spells are going to work out and it may not be the player's fault, there's just been too many occasions where players have failed to get a game at a lower level. L1 & L2 are far closer to the Championship than development games, which appear to be virtually non-contact, none have really gone somewhere and forced Powell's hand/proven him wrong. All of these guys have shown potential in their brief appearances, I just remember being convinced Adnan Ahmed was destined for the top a few games after he broke in...

I'll revisit a post I made on the first page of the Holmes thread,
It's too simplistic is this 'is he good enough' argument. Actually it's too vague and subjective. It's qualitative.
What the Leeds game and other games since have showed us is that the young lads like Billing, Dempsey, Lolley, Holmes and maybe others if given an opportunity and the right coaching can make a positive contribution to this Town side.
That's all it boils down to.

That wasn't a dig at him, and appreciate his stats from last year. Just think Paterson is more adept to handling tighter situations, even if that isn't a 'hole'. Sure he'll be a permanent fixture soon one way or another.

If Paterson can play lots of games this season and prove to be robust then I think we should buy him. I think he's a clever little footballer with youth on his side.

Wagner pretty much saying its a very slim chance of him rejoining, which would be a shame. I reckon our best bet would be him staying at Leicester and them sending him back to us.

I fear he could end up at one of the greedy clubs who sign players to stop others getting them,,,,,the QPR, Bolton,Wolves type
