Howard Webb said the referree was right to chalk of the second goal before it changed the goalkeepers reaction - from what I could see he dived to save the header at the time the ball was headed and at no stage did sturridge put him off or change his mind/the direction he was going so why did the goal not stand?

I hate the offside rule and 'not interfering with play'. It makes decisions for the officials so difficult. A player 'is not interfering with play' in the six yard box, yet that same player can be 'played onside' by a defender near the corner flag... The point being that 'interfering with play' should apply whether you're attacking or defending. Forwards are now trained to exploit this rule & the pace of the game generally allows them to get away with it... |
