Whilst I applaud our efforts to keep finding talent and bringing it through I will be concerned if we don't Sign at least 3 quality players in the close season. We have been lucky the last few years in finding talent and using it to further our cause. However, I feel it is now key to our progress next year that we bite the bullet and sign some recognised quality.
The rider to this of course is whether our esteemed chairman can generate the necessary funds. Whilst getting Wagner in on the face of it seemed a bit of a master stroke the lack of real quality once again began to show through.
The last few results worry me. Have the players given up because it is end of season, or maybe a lot of them know they are on limited time?
We can't keep getting away with it on the cheap. Eventually we will get caught out. The championship is a competitive league with a lot of Quality players in it.
Our scouting network generally seems to work finding younger players but it would be nice to see a few marquee signings at least to send a message of intent to our competitors.

Might score 5 next year.

Our whole model is about signing players we can develop and sell for more money. Powell was sacked for not buyin into that and Wagner brought in because that was his background. Why has everyone forgotten that and started expecting us to start splashing the cash on a load of "proven quality"? What does that even mean by the way? Who would you class as proven quality? The ex captain of a championship winning team (like Mark Hudson) maybe?

Not the old - "we need some quality players" throw away line. Its up there with "real championship standard" Where do you think these quality championship standard players without a contract are? They are either premiership has-beens or they play for other championship teams who are ready to pay them more money for their services. Why would a proven quality player want to come and sign for us. We have to find young talent and develop it. Some we will keep some we will sell. I don't expect a single marquee signing this summer.

Don't worry everyone. We have money to spend and more if Derby go up and when Lynch moves on too.

At the moment we only have 16 senior players on the books + the 2 Germans. So if we are bringing in 2 goalies & he wants 2 for each position, looks like 5 more players are needed.

Sure Wagner is quoted somewhere as saying that the first team squad size will be 18 and that any injuries will be covered by the academy/development squad. Not sure how many of your 16 are genuine first team playing members.

But Wagner was checking whether Crainie could cover a third position on Saturday, so not necessaily 2 separate players per position.

I think that Wagner has been nothing but honest since the day he came so listening to his 15 min interview with Oggy yesterday I am comfortable with the plan. Dean has told him that any players being sold will be firstly a football decision not financial and if someone is willing to pay a hefty price for one of our players he can only move on if we have identified a replacement as good or better. There will definitely be more coming in because of the changes to the loan window. Ideally, if we want to progress we need the first choice picks being pushed hard by 11 wanting their places. 2 good players for every position.
