Hi All, Disability Sport Yorkshire has teamed up with Barnsley F.C. Supporters Trust, to arrange a Fundraising Walk from Barnsley to Huddersfield, on Saturday 20th August, ahead of the Town Vs Barnsley game. We have already recruited around 25 walkers. This event is particularly important for DSY as, for the past 5 years we have been running numerous projects in Kirklees to support Disabled people from the area, and we are hoping that some of these people will join the walk in its later stages. DSY is successful in gaining project funding, but often struggles to find funding to meet the day to day costs to keep the organisation ticking on. The BFC Supporters Trust has a good track record of running such walks and raising money for local charities, so we feel very privileged that they have agreed to run this event, on our behalf. Previous walks to Chesterfield and Bradford, have generated thousands of pounds, and also, united fans in their community efforts. Fans collect their own sponsorship; and buy their own match tickets, so are essentially taking part as their contribution to charity, and for a challenge. We'd really like fans of BOTH clubs to be involved, and as such we're inviting Town fans to join the walk as it comes into Huddersfield (or earlier, if they wish). For info, the route will leave Oakwell at approx 6am, and is likely to go via Kexborough, High Hoyland, Skelmanthorpe, Shelley and Almondbury. We are hoping to stop off for refreshments at a pub en route, probably around Kirkburton. Anyone wishing to offer support, suggestions, should contact Fiona Hall fhall@disabilitysportyorkshire.org Further details attached, and via our website www.disabilitysportyorkshire.orgTo donate, uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/donate/makeDonationForCharityDisplay.action?charityId=1011480Please support Disability Sport in Yorkshire.
